Creativity Takes Courage: Counseling Outside The Box

February 8, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin For as long as I can remember, art has been an essential part of my life. Even at my kindergarten graduation, I announced on stage that “when I grow up, I am going to be an artist.” Sketching, painting, crafting, and music have always been my favorite ways to self-soothe as a teenager filled with angst to an adult weathering a pandemic world. While growing up, I found that along with art I had a passion for helping others. I remember at 19 years old struggling to decide on a new career path after my plan of becoming a fashion designer didn’t quite fit. My mom and I were riding in the car, and she said, “You have always been a helper, have you thought about being a counselor?” Well, like they say… Mothers know best. My brain was buzzing with ideas on how I could combine my two passions: art and helping. I understood art’s healing powers and wanted to use it to help others. After graduating with my bachelor’s degree in … [Read more...] about Creativity Takes Courage: Counseling Outside The Box

February 7, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin M icrosoft fired the opening salvo of Big Tech’s generative AI arms race Tuesday with an announcement that it’s applying the technology to its search engine and web browser. “It’s a new day in search,” CEO Satya Nadella said at an event at the company’s Redmond, Washington headquarters. “The race starts today… We’re going to move fast.” In a keynote presentation featuring remarks from both Nadella and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Microsoft said it had collaborated with OpenAI to set up Bing on a new large language model it claims is even more powerful than ChatGPT. The refreshed Bing provides a box with annotated AI answers to the right side of traditional search results. Users can also click on a new “Chat” tab which will replace the webpage with a chat interface similar to ChatGPT. The tech giant demoed example use cases, like generating customized meal plans and an itinerary of travel recommendations. Altman said Bing’s … [Read more...] about The New AI Wars Begin As Microsoft Announces ChatGPT Integration With Bing And Edge

5 Reasons To Consider A Cold Weather Trip This Spring Break

February 8, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin After a long winter the impulse to escape to a beach somewhere in the Caribbean often overtakes travelers, however, there are some very compelling reasons to book your spring vacation in a snowy destination — even if you don’t ski. From sustainability factors to a true escape from the peak travel season crowds, thinking outside of the typical spring break box can have huge payoffs in terms of your travel experience —including a deeper connection to the destination and the people you meet there. Tom Wilkinson, Senior Product Manager with Exodus Travels, says that the tour operator’s trips in Northern Finland provide travelers with a memorable and impactful travel experience — one that suggests you pack a bathing suit, but doesn’t involve swimming through a cloud of someone else’s sunscreen. Here’s why you should consider a different kind of vacation this spring. Crowd control Forget lining up at the bar for an … [Read more...] about 5 Reasons To Consider A Cold Weather Trip This Spring Break

How Oil-Eating Microbes Could Revolutionize The Energy Transition [Video]

February 8, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin As any sourdough bread enthusiast can attest, beneficial microbes live all around us. Estimates suggest the Earth harbors as many as a trillion microbial species. Many make our lives better, enabling us to do everything from fermenting foods to synthesizing human insulin. Those possibilities attracted the attention of Tara Karimi, an academic researcher specializing in biologically inspired technologies. Her brother, Moji Karimi, worked with a company that wanted to sequence the DNA of microbes living in oil and gas wells. Both Karimi siblings were passionate about sustainability; when their professional lives intersected, they started thinking about ways their knowledge of science and technology might help reverse climate change. Ultimately, their collaboration led to Cemvita Factory, a biotech startup they founded in 2017. Today, their focus is to bring biotechnology to the energy transition with applications such as … [Read more...] about How Oil-Eating Microbes Could Revolutionize The Energy Transition [Video]

February 8, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin FTSE 100 stocks Smurfit Kappa, DCC Group and Severn Trent all released fresh trading statements on Wednesday. Here are the key takeaways from their midweek updates. Smurfit Kappa Packaging supplier Smurfit Kappa grew revenues strongly in 2022 despite a fall in cardboard box demand. Revenues rose 27% last year to €12.8 billion even as box volumes dropped 2% year on year. Meanwhile, earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increased 38% to €2.4 billion, helped by a jump in EBITDA margin to 18.4% from 16.8% in 2021. The solid performance encouraged the company to raise the full-year dividend 12% year on year, to 107.6 euro cents per share. Chief executive Tony Smurfit said that “the rate and pace of inflation clearly had a negative effect on the demand environment in 2022.” He added that “the partial reversal of the unsustainably high demand levels seen through the pandemic period” also … [Read more...] about FTSE 100 Round-Up: Smurfit Kappa, DCC, Severn Trent
