Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Who knows when the Francis Ngannou lottery will end? But, if “The Predator” lands in the Professional Fighters League, it would boost the PFL’s already soaring momentum. The PFL rocked the industry earlier this month when it announced Jake Paul has signed with the fight league to start his MMA career. A followup Ngannou signing would be rocket fuel. In a compelling interview from MMA Junkie , PFL commentator (and former UFC fighter) Kenny Florian discussed the impact on the sport if the PFL were to sign Ngannou, the industry’s No. 1 free agent who recently split with the UFC after contract negotiations collapsed. “I think signing Francis Ngannou would be massive, not only for the PFL, but for the sport,” Florian said. “It’s going to get fighters to scratch their heads and go, ‘Hmm, maybe I could go over there.’ I think it would allow the PFL to get a ton of respect and eventually get even more great fighters.” … [Read more...] about Kenny Florian: Francis Ngannou To The PFL Would Be ‘Massive’

Jake Paul And Tommy Fury Agree To Fight (Again) On Feb. 25
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Good things come in threes for Jake Paul and Tommy Fury. Paul — the YouTube-sensation-turned-prizefighter — and Fury have agreed to fight on Feb. 25 in Saudi Arabia, sources confirmed to ESPN this week. It is the third time the two fighters have booked a match with one another, yet they have never squared up. Combat sports insider Ariel Helwani at MMAFighting.com is reporting via Twitter that the fight is a “done deal.” Specifics regarding the host venue, broadcast distribution and the number of rounds are planned to be revealed later this week. An illness forced Fury to withdraw from a bout in December 2021. The fight was rebooked for August 2022, but Paul and his team nixed it due to Fury's travel problems arriving into the U.S. Fury is the younger brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and a popular reality personality in the United Kingdom. John R. Tyson’s Settlement With Prosecutor Kicks Off What Could Be A Rough Year For Tyson Foods
The company’s share price has fallen since the arrest in November of the CFO, the 32-year-old, fourth-generation heir apparent, on intoxication and trespassing charges. By Chloe Sorvino From a young age, John R. Tyson has been preparing to potentially take over the family business, Tyson Foods, the biggest U.S. meat company. He’s followed the prescribed path: Harvard, a Stanford MBA, a stint at JPMorgan, a lower-tier executive job at Tyson, then, last year, CFO. Now, however, the 32-year-old, fourth-generation scion could be a drag on the company just as it enters a rough year. Tyson Foods shares have fallen 3% since John R. Tyson’s arrest in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on November 6 after a stranger found him passed out in her bed. That isn’t much, but the S&P 500 has risen 5.5% in the same time period. On Tuesday, the city of Fayetteville settled with John R. Tyson, who pleaded guilty to charges of public intoxication and criminal trespass and agreed to pay a … [Read more...] about John R. Fresh Take: Tyson Heir Settles With Guilty Plea, And Cracking Open The Issue Of High Egg Prices
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin H appy Friday! We’ve almost made it! Take a moment to congratulate yourself. I know I’ve had a full week. What about you? My highlights included interviewing the CEO of the country’s largest fishing company, as well as a fun lunchtime talk with Northwestern M.B.A. students. We’re now in that part of the new year where momentum is building and deadlines are starting to pile up. It can be a lot. I’m trying to balance it all out with lots of face-to-face experiences, and, of course, some good food. This week, that search for balance brought me to crabs. How could I not while reporting in and around Seattle? While the Alaskan population has been decimated, Washington state’s fresh riverbed Dungeness are doing well. Steamed for a few minutes, dipped in a little butter, and wow. Full disclosure: I’m still grappling with West Coast time over here. Next week, expect the edition to hit your inbox a bit earlier. In the meantime, … [Read more...] about Fresh Take: Tyson Heir Settles With Guilty Plea, And Cracking Open The Issue Of High Egg Prices
Lots of sound and fury on US debt, but not a crisis — yet
By JOSH BOAK (Associated Press) WASHINGTON (AP) — For all the sound and fury about raising the nation’s debt limit, most economists say federal borrowing is not at a crisis point … at least not yet. The national debt is at the core of a dispute about how to raise the government’s legal borrowing authority, a mostly political argument that could turn into genuine financial trouble this summer if the U.S. runs out of accounting maneuvers to keep paying its bills. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy insists that the debt, so huge it defies most people’s grasp, is already breaking the economy. President Joe Biden counters that the government spending cuts sought by Republicans in return for a debt limit increase would break the middle class. The political jousting masks contrasting realities: Today’s $31.4 trillion national debt does not appear to be a weight on the U.S. economy, but the debt’s path in the decades to come might put at risk national security and major programs … [Read more...] about Lots of sound and fury on US debt, but not a crisis — yet
When Life Gets In The Way Of Your Retirement Plans
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Mike Tyson famously said “everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.” Unfortunately, this can be as true when it comes to retirement planning as it is in boxing. Here are some ways LIFE can get in the way of even the best laid plans and what you can do about it: L is for longevity. The main challenge in retirement planning is making sure that our money lasts at least as long as we do. The first problem is that we don't know how long that will be. According to a recent report by the Society of Actuaries, a majority of Americans underestimate their life expectancy. But even using an accurate life expectancy for retirement planning is problematic for a couple of reasons. First, by definition, about half of people will live longer than average. If you're in good health, your odds are greater. Second, advances in biomedical technology could mean rising life expectancies. In fact, some experts even … [Read more...] about When Life Gets In The Way Of Your Retirement Plans
‘Shot In The Arm’ Shows How Disinformation Can Be Deadly
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In 1920, over 469,000 people in the United States were infected by morbillivirus and 7,575 individuals died. This highly infectious disease – which wreaked havoc in isolated communities such as the Faroe Islands and Hawaii – was associated with encephalitis, a serious complication that could lead to brain damage, vision loss and death. Through heroic efforts of John Franklin Enders and his team, the first vaccine against this illness—hailed 100% effective—was licensed for public use in 1963 (an improved version with fewer side effects was created in 1968 by Dr. Maurice Hilleman). The name of this global infectious disease nightmare? Measles. This was the start of Shot in the Arm , which had its world premiere at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on January 6 th . It’s a riveting documentary detailing the rise in vaccine-preventable infections such as measles, polio, chickenpox and Covid-19. 2023 CES Offers Storage/Memory That Enable Advanced Consumer Applications
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas is always an interesting display of technology, some very much consumer oriented and many other technologies of a more industrial or enterprise nature. For instance, several examples of space technology were also exhibited at this show (including water ion thrusters for cube satellites (cube sats) from a Japanese organization). Although the show was much better attended in attendees and exhibitors than the 2022 show (about 45,000 attendees), it was still down with an estimated 115,000 attendees from the 2020 CES (the last pre-pandemic show) that had 171,000 attendees. I also noted that there were several exhibit areas that were empty or had less exhibits than in pre-pandemic years. In particular, the Westgate exhibit area, often home to many Chinese and other Asian exhibitors, was empty. Still for the attendees and exhibitors who made it to the 2023 CES there … [Read more...] about 2023 CES Offers Storage/Memory That Enable Advanced Consumer Applications
Counting Down And Ranking All 12 DCEU Movie From Best To Worst
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin R.I.P. Snyderverse, 2013-2023 Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios will be moving on from the so-called “Snyderverse,” a term I broadly apply to encompass all 12 WBD shared cinematic superhero films, since it’s all connected and built upon that foundation. Unless an unlikely miraculous licensing deal could be struck with Netflix , 2023 will apparently see the final four entries in the DCEU and Snyderverse. Before the final bell is rung, it’s time to update the countdown and ranking of all 12 DCEU movies from best to worst. Whatever hope remained among fandom for the continuation of the existing DCEU in a direction that would include the original cast and plans for sequels ended with news that Wonder Woman 3 was effectively cancelled, Henry Cavill would not return as Superman and the character would be rebooted, and further significant changes are on the way in a new DC cinematic universe for the future. Additionally, … [Read more...] about Counting Down And Ranking All 12 DCEU Movie From Best To Worst
