Financial literacy is en vogue these days, with states like Florida becoming one of the most recent and largest states to mandate personal finance courses for high schoolers. May 24, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A NEW DELHI (May 24): India is considering cutting an import levy on soybean and sunflower oils, another step in a series of measures the country has taken to cool surging local prices of food. The government is deliberating whether to reduce the agriculture infrastructure and development cess, which is currently 5%, or abolish it, according to a person familiar with the matter. A final decision may be taken this week, said the person, who asked not to be identified as the information is private. A finance ministry spokesperson was not immediately available to comment. The extra levy is used by the government to collect funds for farm infrastructure projects. Curbing the tax could be one of the limited options available for the government to reduce surging vegetable oil prices in the world's second most-populous nation. India has already scrapped base import levies on most cooking oils, including palm oil and soybean oil, and imposed inventory limits to … [Read more...] about India considers tax cut on soybean and sunflower oil to cool prices

Meet Rashad And Troy, The Financial Powerhouses Of REVOLT’s Assets Over Liabilities

May 20, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Rashad Bilal , a financial advisor, and Troy Millings , an educator, have quickly become the cultural kings of financial literacy. The dynamic duo from the Bronx is on a quest to provide access to financial knowledge that the Black community can use to effect real change. They saw a scarcity of information in the financial literacy field when it came to the Black community and began the famed podcast Earn You Leisure (EYL) in January 2019. With just an iPhone, shotgun mics, and the knowledge they held, the cultural shifters had a vision that led them to a level of popularity that piqued the interest of high-profile celebrities such as Steve Harvey, Nick Cannon, Jemele Hill, and many more. Rashad and Troy have since become the go-to resource for financial literacy in the Black community. May 24, 2022 by edition.cnn.com

Brazil's right-wing president Jair Bolsonaro fired the chief executive of oil producer Petrobras -- the second in two months -- after the company refused to sell fuels at a discount to consumers warning it would l ead to diesel shortages . Bolsonaro also called for the election of a new board, according to a statement released close to midnight local time on Monday by the state-controlled company, opening the way to a full executive management shake-up. José Mauro Ferreira Coelho is the third Petrobras CEO fired by Bolsonaro over fuel prices. The president, who is seeking re-election in October but lagging in polls, says Petrobras should use its profits to reduce fuel prices and help control inflation. Bolsonaro, who also fired an energy minister earlier this year, appointed Caio Mario Paes de Andrade to replace Coelho. The government controls Petroleo Brasileiro, as the firm is formally known, with a majority of the voting shares, even if private … [Read more...] about Bolsonaro fires Petrobras CEO who warned of diesel crisis

4 Ways White Supremacy Harms Humanity

May 21, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin It is important to first acknowledge the words of scholar and activist Angela Davis. In her book Freedom is a Constant Struggle , Davis wrote “the call for public conversations on race and racism is also a call to develop a vocabulary that permits us to have insightful conversations. If we attempt to use historically obsolete vocabularies, our consciousness of racism will remain shallow.” For the sake of this article, the term white supremacy will be used throughout the piece because it is the term with the greatest amount of familiarity. It should, however, be noted that some have urged us to move away from the term white supremacy because it implies that the group of people that are racialized as white are “superior” to other racialized groups. Some alternatives to the term white supremacy that have been suggested include the terms white perversion and white insecurity . In the future, the term white supremacy will … [Read more...] about 4 Ways White Supremacy Harms Humanity
