Trade Watchlist Portfolio Message Set Alert live bse live nse live Volume Todays L/H More × The subdued performance of Hindi films in the last few months is raising questions on what is holding back Bollywood. Analysts note that, in 2021 and so far this year, only 10 percent films have recovered the production cost and emerged successful at the box office, from 35-40 percent during pre-COVID times. The reduced OTT (over-the-top) platform window is one reason, said Amit Sharma, MD and CEO, Miraj Cinemas. Now, films are streamed on OTT platforms four weeks after their release. Earlier, this window used to be eight weeks. "One big reason Hindi films are not doing well is the four-week window. Box office: ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ bring cheer to theatre owners
'Jurassic World: Dominion' - the third film in the 'Jurassic World' trilogy - released in theatres on June 10, 2022. Another Hollywood release has opened really well in India: Jurassic World: Dominion made Rs 8 crore from ticket sales on Day 1, and with the paid preview shows from Thursday added to its kitty, the total stands at Rs 11.75 crore. Now that's a good beginning indeed - the film isn't quite an event film like a Marvel outing but the power of the franchise is such that even with minimal promotion and marketing, it managed to cross Rs10 crore before the start of the weekend. The last Hollywood film to take a blockbuster opening was Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which saw Rs28.35 crore coming in on the first day itself. The film was in a different league altogether but then Top Gun: Maverick was a disappointment - after its partial release of Thursday which saw Rs 1.94 crore coming in, the Friday full release brought in just Rs 2.46 crore. … [Read more...] about Box office: ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2’ bring cheer to theatre owners

Behind Ace Hotel Founder Alex Calderwood’s Creative Life And Untimely Death
You know the place, even if you haven’t been there. advertisement advertisement From the outside, it has a spare, severe look. But inside, past the flower stall and barbershop, the vibe is serene and hushed. Long tables and worn leather chairs invite people to cluster; the scent of locally roasted coffee mixes with the sound of the nearby photo booth, whirring in the background. There are vintage records on the shelves and slinky indie pop on the speakers, and the late afternoon sunlight makes puddles on the century-old wood floor. The feeling is both of the moment and timeless. To a remarkable extent, this place, the Ace Hotel, is the brainchild of a single man, a lean, mop-haired native of the Pacific Northwest named Alexander Calderwood. A kind of hipster polymath, he was able to look around the corners of culture and see what was coming years, if not decades, before everyone else. In his 20-year career, Calderwood cofounded a barbershop, a … [Read more...] about Behind Ace Hotel Founder Alex Calderwood’s Creative Life And Untimely Death
