Delivery riders want employee support and benefits

March 20, 2023 by thethaiger.com

PHOTO: Delivery riders are calling for benefits like normal employees have. (via Peak Recruitment) Delivery riders in Thailand are calling for the next government to provide them with the same benefits as employees in other fields. Riders deal with work hazards ranging from harassment to road accidents, often without support or backup from their employers, including health insurance. Food delivery riders are often classified as “partners” instead of “employees.” This distinction results in a lack of entitlement to benefits typically provided to employees, including health and vehicle insurance. In the event of a road accident, riders are frequently left to manage repair costs and hospital expenses without any support from the company. This practice of denying basic benefits to delivery riders ultimately puts them at a disadvantage compared to other more traditional employees and workplaces. The “Dearmedearyou” Facebook page has been shedding light on the … [Read more...] about Delivery riders want employee support and benefits

After 50, These 7 Cardio-Habits Are Destroying Your Body

March 19, 2023 by www.chiangraitimes.com

(CTN News) – Cardiovascular training improves mobility, flexibility, endurance, and sleep quality as you age. You can even live longer with cardio! Despite the bad, there is always something good to be found. You can limit your progress with cardio, wear out your joints, and even feel worse with cardio over time. Here are the worst cardio habits that destroy your body after 50, and how to avoid them. Definitely not a good idea. Exercise “no matter what,” but always focus on long-term fitness. Take two steps forward by resting and rehabbing if you have pain or an injury. Pushing through problems, however, may make them worse and cause an even longer absence from training. Running, for example, can be hard on your joints and tendons if you only run on pavement-especially if you’re not trained. To improve your conditioning and give your muscles, joints, and overall progress a break occasionally, it’s far better to use a variety of training methods. You’ll feel the difference … [Read more...] about After 50, These 7 Cardio-Habits Are Destroying Your Body

Jillian Michaels Reveals ‘Freak Accident’ Back Injury, Nearly 2-Year Recovery

March 26, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin After being out of the public eye for a while, celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels is back. And she’s now revealing what happened to her back, back in May 2021, along with the grueling comeback that she’s had to make. This odyssey included various wrong twists and turns, both literally and figuratively, getting runarounds from the U.S. healthcare system, a rather surprising delayed diagnosis, and lots o’ pain over the past two years. The whole ordeal began when she had just moved cross-country from sunny California to sunny Miami, Florida. One day she ran into a rather unfriendly encounter with a bathtub, literally. “Back in May 2021, I went running into bathroom for something urgent,” Michaels recalled. “The floor was wet, so I slipped, my body twisted, and I came down on my lumbar spine on the edge of bathtub. It knocked the wind out of me.” This twisting fall from what she called “a freak accident” ended up knocking much … [Read more...] about Jillian Michaels Reveals ‘Freak Accident’ Back Injury, Nearly 2-Year Recovery

The Best Ski And Snowboard Films Of 2022-23 You May Have Missed

March 24, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin April is fast approaching, and for snowsports enthusiasts living in North America, that means one thing: the end of ski and snowboard season. Many resorts in the U.S. Midwest have already closed for the season, and the vast majority of the rest are scheduled to close by April 30. (California’s Mammoth Mountain, on the other hand, which has seen historic snowfall of more than 630" feet at its base, will remain open until “at least” July.) If your home resort has already closed or your ski vacations are done for the year, why not turn to the next best thing? The 2022-23 season was a standout when it comes to ski and snowboard films, and if you can’t be making powder turns or hurtling yourself into steep couloirs, why not watch others do it? These are some of the best ski and snowboard films the 2022-23 season had to offer. Magic Hour (Teton Gravity Research) Kai Jones, 16, was nominated for IF3 Standout … [Read more...] about The Best Ski And Snowboard Films Of 2022-23 You May Have Missed

Getting In Physical Shape Via Virtual Reality

March 21, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The straps on my Oculus Quest virtual reality goggles have stretched out over time. So I find myself perpetually adjusting them on the fly, which can really take away from whatever immersive app I’m using. That’s especially inconvenient right now, as I’m trying out the FitXR VR fitness app that has quickly become a popular choice for people wanting to work out in a fun and engaging way. I do cardio exercise five or six times a week, so I think I’m in decent shape. But I rarely work out my upper body because, well, I’m lazy. What’s nice about FitXR is it offers a variety of workouts in five “studios” that include boxing, dance, sculpt, combat and HIIT (high intensity interval training). Each workout strives to be challenging, which is great. My first workout, a beginner-level HIIT, wiped me out in four minutes the first time. The second one I lasted the entire 12 minutes, although I didn’t score workout points very well. … [Read more...] about Getting In Physical Shape Via Virtual Reality

America’s New Major League Cricket Has A Footprint From Cashed-Up India

March 22, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin After years of intrigue and anticipation, and of course speedbumps that has been the norm for a long troubled sport in a goldmine of a location, Major League Cricket was spectacularly unveiled in Houston on Sunday. With a pool of overseas stars limited - due to international commitments and India's contracted players unable to play beyond their homegrown Indian Premier League - the MLC did well to recruit several well-known players still at their peak. Salary caps were reportedly around $1 million per team with top players set to receive similar remuneration per game to cashed-up start-up leagues in the UAE UAE and South Africa. Also drafted were a host of expat players, who are flying the flag for a pro cricket league hoped to finally fuel the rise of cricket in the world's biggest market. While born and bred players were perhaps predictably outnumbered, MLC is hoped to spark interest in the younger … [Read more...] about America’s New Major League Cricket Has A Footprint From Cashed-Up India

Xiaomi 13 Pro Review: This Camera Has A Phone On It

March 21, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Right off the bat, if there’s one thing you need to know about the Xiaomi 13 Pro, it’s all about the cameras. “Aren’t all flagship phones camera-focused these days?” you might ask. They are, but the Xiaomi 13 Pro packs a refreshing take on cameras that makes it stand out in the segment. So, I’ll start my Xiaomi 13 Pro review by detailing the cameras, and then diving into the smartphone-y bits. Xiaomi 13 Pro review: Cameras The Xiaomi 13 Pro sports a triple rear camera setup, which is led by a 50MP Sony IMX989, 1-inch sensor. It is accompanied by a 3.2x optical zoom-capable 50MP telephoto camera and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle shooter with a 115-degree field-of-view. All of these are Leica-tuned, which isn’t just a branding thing. It actually makes a difference on the results. On the front lies an unimpressive 32MP selfie camera. You can choose from two options for the color tone – Leica Vibrant and Leica Authentic. The … [Read more...] about Xiaomi 13 Pro Review: This Camera Has A Phone On It
