Govt continues giving subsidies to stabilise prices, avoid high inflation

June 27, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A PUTRAJAYA (June 27): The government is willing to bear the projected huge subsidy totalling RM77.3 billion for this year towards stabilising the prices of goods and avoiding high inflation rates of up to 11.4%, says Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed. He said the government had a choice of removing subsidies and strengthening the country’s finances to a better level, but it chose to bear the subsidies instead for the welfare and well-being of the people. Mustapa said the announcement on June 24 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob of no increase in the water and electricity tariffs, and the chicken price not being floated showed the government’s caring side and commitment to maintaining the subsidies. Referring to the projected consumer subsidy expenditure amounting to RM77.3 billion for 2022, he said RM51 billion of it made up the biggest component of fuel, cooking oil, electricity, water, chicken … [Read more...] about Govt continues giving subsidies to stabilise prices, avoid high inflation

Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor (Photo by Zahid Izzani/The Edge filepix) - A + A KUALA LUMPUR (June 27): Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has once again filed an application to challenge the appointment of Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram as senior deputy public prosecutor in her RM1.25 billion solar hybrid project corruption trial and to nullify the entire trial proceedings since 2018. Rosmah, 70, filed the judicial review application on June 24 through Messrs Akberdin & Co in the High Court (Appeal and Special Powers), naming the Attorney-General/Public Prosecutor, Government of Malaysia and Sri Ram as respondents. Rosmah, the wife of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had earlier filed a similar application at the Criminal High Court here. However, her application was dismissed by the High Court and her appeal against the court ruling was also rejected by the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court. In her latest application, Rosmah sought to declare that the … [Read more...] about Rosmah files bid to challenge Sri Ram’s appointment again

Better rating revision lifts ringgit in early trade

June 28, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A KUALA LUMPUR (June 28): The ringgit opened broadly higher against the US dollar on Tuesday morning (June 28) as risk appetite for the local currency strengthened following the positive revision of Malaysia’s long-term sovereign credit ratings outlook by S&P Global Ratings (S&P). At 9am, the local currency had risen to 4.3960/4000 against the greenback from 4.4030/4060 at 6pm on Monday. “This improvement (the positive revision) surely strengthened investors’ sentiment and confidence in Malaysia’s economy,” an analyst told Bernama. In its latest report on Malaysia, S&P foresees the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth at 6.1% in 2022 and 5% in 2023. The steady growth momentum is supported by high commodity prices, strong exports and domestic demand with the reopening of the economy. Additionally, S&P affirmed the "A-" rating for long-term and "A-2" for short-term foreign currency sovereign credit ratings, as well as Malaysia’s … [Read more...] about Better rating revision lifts ringgit in early trade

LongTail Rally 2.0: More Cars, More Adventures, More Chills And Thrills

June 27, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Just over 13 months after the inaugural LongTail Rally of 2021, rally organizers kicked off the second LongTail Rally amidst the stunning skyline of San Francisco. Gathering at the Fairmont Hotel on Mason Street for the opening dinner, and culminating at the Hyatt Regency, Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale, Arizona one week later, this year’s rally involved more participants, covered more miles and included even more adventures. Rally organizers Michael Knapp and Julie Milne didn’t need to up their game after the celebrated reaction to the first LongTail Rally, but they kicked things up a notch nonetheless. Where last year’s rally included a trip to BMW’s driving school in Thermal, California, and a visit to Speed Vegas outside Sin City, this year’s drive crossed far more state lines and included off-road safaris, high-altitude tests of man and machine, plus a massive 110-degree pool party and a marriage proposal. Day 1: … [Read more...] about LongTail Rally 2.0: More Cars, More Adventures, More Chills And Thrills

LongTail Rally: 30 Supercars, 2,000 Miles, 8 Days Of Thrill, Infinite Chill

May 24, 2021 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Spending 8 days and 2,000 miles driving non-stop is either your worst nightmare or your personal state of nirvana (we’re talking “release of the soul from karmic bondage” nirvana here). Achieving that state of mind on the open highway may be putting a bit too much pressure on the road trip concept, but that didn’t stop the LongTail Rally organizers from trying. With a route that started in Laguna Beach, ended in Las Vegas, and visited Palm Springs, Beverly Hills, Santa Barbara, Monterey, Yosemite and Death Valley in between, I feared a triathlon-like experience after glancing at the LongTail Rally itinerary. But rally organizer Mike Knapp quickly allayed those fears. “We rarely hit the road before 11 am, and we’re always at our next night’s accommodations by 5 pm.” If you’re a car rally noob (like me), you may not know this, but most exotic car rallies are not run this way. Instead of reveling in engaging roads … [Read more...] about LongTail Rally: 30 Supercars, 2,000 Miles, 8 Days Of Thrill, Infinite Chill
