Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin China’s launch of the digital yuan has prompted a scramble in Northeast Asia among central banks to assess the merits of CBDCs. Japan, South Korea and Taiwan are all at different stages of CBDC testing that they likely never would have begun if it were not for Beijing’s determination to develop a digital fiat currency. That begs an important question: Does the rest of Northeast Asia need CBDCs? After all, the respective initiatives of Japan, South Korea and Taiwan are inherently reactive, in contrast to Beijing’s proactive approach. The People’s Bank of China (PBoC) created the e-CNY for specific reasons that speak to long-term strategic objectives of the central government: domestically, to strengthen resilience in a payments ecosystem dominated by Big Tech (Alipay and Tenpay) and gain greater control over the digital money supply, while in the cross-border space the aim is to gradually boost the renminbi’s global reach … [Read more...] about Why Northeast Asia-Ex China Is Ambivalent About CBDCs

Will Hillary’s ‘Half A Billion Solar Panels’ Promise Send Billions To China?
Hillary Clinton’s newest campaign promise to install half a billion solar panels across the country has been praised by liberal media outlets and environmentalists , but could this pledge end up benefiting China? On Sunday, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton promised to install half a billion solar panels by the end of her first term and get the U.S. to a point where it can generate enough green energy to power every home in the country. “Through these goals, we will increase the amount of installed solar capacity by 700% by 2020, expand renewable energy to at least a third of all electricity generation, prevent thousands of premature deaths and tens of thousands of asthma attacks each year, and put our country on a path to achieve deep emission reductions by 2050,” Clinton’s website boasts . While there’s no doubt U.S. companies and green energy interests would benefit from the “competitive grants and other market-based incentives” Hillary promises to … [Read more...] about Will Hillary’s ‘Half A Billion Solar Panels’ Promise Send Billions To China?

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The state of Montana has a wealth of riches to draw in newcomers, including four full seasons offering a wide range of outdoors activities, no traffic, a low cost of living, and friendly people, to name just a few. Now a consortium of government, academic and business leaders in the state, including the Montana Manufacturing Association under the Montana Chamber of Commerce, has been working for the past few years on a collection of other attractions to draw one specific kind of newcomer to Big Sky Country: manufacturers. While Montana already has over 4,100 manufacturing companies with over 21,400 employees generating $3.8 billion in economic output, state leaders see a lot more opportunity in that sector. “We’re leaning into our state’s strengths with our western lifestyle, entrepreneurial spirit and high-quality education system that is nimble and responsive to evolving workforce needs,” explained Todd O’Hair, … [Read more...] about Bozeman Landed Hyundai’s New Horizons Studio R&D Center. Choi Ji-man dropped from Korean roster for World Baseball Classic
Choi Ji-Man talks to reporters at Incheon International Airport in Incheon on Jan. 8. [NEWS1] Choi Ji-man has been dropped from the Korean team for World Baseball Classic 2023 after his MLB team, the Pittsburg Pirates, objected to his participation on medical grounds. Choi, the most seasoned Korean batter playing in the big leagues, was named to the Korean squad for the tournament last month. With previous Korean rosters often overlooking players without any KBO experience, Choi had never been called up to represent Korea before. “I feel hungry because I have never put on a Taeguk mark before,” Choi Ji-man told reporters at Incheon International Airport on Jan. 8 before he departed to the United States for the MLB preseason. The Pirates opted to block Choi Ji-man's participating on medical grounds as he is still undergoing rehabilitation following elbow surgery last year. Korean national baseball team manager Lee Kang-chul replaced Choi Ji-man, a first baseman, with SSG … [Read more...] about Choi Ji-man dropped from Korean roster for World Baseball Classic
Environmentalists Are Suing Trump AGAIN Over His Border Wall
Environmental groups sued President Donald Trump’s administration Thursday for waiving more than two dozen laws meant to protect air, water, land and wildlife to speed up construction of a border wall with Mexico. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) waved 25 environmental regulations in January covering a 20-mile stretch of land along the New Mexico/Mexico border. Environmentalists, with the Center for Biological Diversity in lead, say the action is “unconstitutional.” “By waiving these laws in the name of bringing law and order to the region, DHS is literally making the border lawless,” Southwest Environmental Center, one of the groups involved in the suit, Executive Director Kevin Bixby said in a statement. “Our wildlife and communities deserve the same legal protections as every other community in America.” “Construction of the border wall would cause permanent and irreparable damage to over a hundred endangered and threatened species that call the border area … [Read more...] about Environmentalists Are Suing Trump AGAIN Over His Border Wall

DANIEL OLIVER: The Simply Terrible, Unimaginably Awful Biden Speech To The Nation
Does anyone give a worse speech than President Joe Biden? That alone should make us hope he doesn’t run again. His State of the Union speech was awful! But that was not unexpected. There were of course, the polite platitudes: “Mr. Speaker, I look forward to working together.” Ha! Can he really be looking forward to working with Speaker Kevin McCarthy! Not likely, but that’s just the obligatory politeness — and gives the audience a chance to get used to the sound of his voice. (RELATED: BASTASCH: You Might Have Missed This, But Biden Just Made A Stunning Admission About His Energy Agenda) Some of what he said was just ordinary political jaywalking: “Two years ago, COVID had shut down our businesses, closed our schools, and robbed us of so much.” Well, not exactly. COVID didn’t shut our businesses: people did—people in government, people we call politicians. And then some brave politicians looked at the facts and reopened their states, e.g., Governor Ron DeSantis. But then … [Read more...] about DANIEL OLIVER: The Simply Terrible, Unimaginably Awful Biden Speech To The Nation
BASTASCH: You Might Have Missed This, But Biden Just Made A Stunning Admission About His Energy Agenda
Apparently, when President Joe Biden goes off script, the truth comes out. During last night’s State of the Union speech, he made a stunning admission to the entire country, on live television, about why energy prices are so stubbornly high. While railing against oil industry profits, he said : Last year, they made $200 billion in the midst of a global energy crisis. I think it’s outrageous. Why? They invested too little of that profit to increase domestic production, and when I talked to a couple of them, they say, “We’re afraid you’re going to shut down all the oil wells and all the oil refineries anyway, so why should we invest in them?” Got that? Biden just admitted to the entire country that companies aren’t drilling more because of his own actions toward the oil and gas industry. Now, this isn’t a surprise to those of us who follow this issue closely – heck, one of his first actions was killing the Keystone XL oil pipeline and halting new oil and gas drilling on … [Read more...] about BASTASCH: You Might Have Missed This, But Biden Just Made A Stunning Admission About His Energy Agenda
How Oracle Red Bull Racing Walked Away From Porsche And Ford Stepped In
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin As questions surrounded equity control of Oracle Red Bull’s Formula 1 team, and changes to sustainability for the racing series are set to take a larger role, Porsche fell by the wayside, and Ford decided to make their return to the sport after a 22-year absence. It’s not often that one can say, “When a door closes, another door closes which leads to a door opening,” but that may best describe what has happened with consecutive F1 driver championships in 2021-22 and 2022 constructor champion Oracle Red Bull Racing. A seismic shift has occurred with those supplying powertrains in F1 as an increase in renewable technology continues to dramatically alter the consumer automotive market. In 2021, Honda left primary support for Red Bull as they moved away from combustion engines. Honda has pledged to be carbon-neutral by 2050. With not just Honda but others seeking to increase battery technology, and other renewable … [Read more...] about How Oracle Red Bull Racing Walked Away From Porsche And Ford Stepped In
