Once thought of as a relic of yesteryear, the limited series—or miniseries, depending on which generation you belong to—has rapidly shifted back into focus. In fact, it was only six years ago that the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences adjusted its Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series category to better accommodate what networks were churning out and solidified the format’s definition as a series with at least two episodes with a total running time of at least 150 program minutes that tells a non-recurring story. In every year since, we’ve seen new limited series that are both ratings magnets and critical darlings: The Queen’s Gambit, The Undoing, Watchmen, Chernobyl, The Night Of, Sharp Objects, When They See Us. … [Read more...] about Hollywood is redefining Peak TV—for better and for worse

10 Ways To Create An Open Culture
Grey had tried to change before. The business wasn’t in denial, but it just seemed like the “uncrackable” problem. This time, we did it differently. Our strategy for change was to change our culture. We called this Open. It is both an expression of a culture and how we believe today’s people-based businesses should work in order to survive, evolve and thrive. Samsung is fine-tuning its Galaxy line to better take on Apple
Overlapping GalaxiesThe price drop might also help consumers evaluate other devices that have played a more significant role in everyday life during the pandemic, such as noise-canceling headphones and, of course, PCs. The Walking Dead’s Glen Mazzara On Managing the Undead Way
“One of the things I’ve learned by working on the Walking Dead and other TV shows is to be more tolerant of other people’s process,” says Mazzara. “I should not micromanage people’s emotional responses or how they do their work. So if an actor or writer has a lot of questions on the material, it’s wrong for me, as a showrunner, to say, `Just say the lines’ or `Just do this.’ What I need to do is understand their process, and then help them through it to what I feel we want to do. It might be easier to just write the scene I want. But that writer has to go to the set in Atlanta, defend the material, prep that scene, and make sure it gets shot the way we want it. It may take more time, but I have to explain things and get them to a point where they understand the vision of the show. I want people to feel and live the show, and buy into a vision, not just execute a task. If you just execute a task, the work will feel flat and … [Read more...] about The Walking Dead’s Glen Mazzara On Managing the Undead Way
Biden plans to fight climate change in a way no U.S. president has before
A new comprehensive climate bill The best way to tackle these sectors would be a comprehensive climate bill that uses some mechanism, such as a clean energy standard, that sets a cap, or limit, on emissions and tightens it over time. Here, the problem lies more in the politics of the moment than anything else. Biden and his team will have to convince lawmakers from fossil fuel-producing states to work on these efforts. … [Read more...] about Biden plans to fight climate change in a way no U.S. president has before
