(CNN) A Supreme Court ruling Thursday could shape what we see going forward along the US-Mexico border. In a 5-4 ruling, justices found that immigration law gives the Biden administration discretion to end the "Remain in Mexico" policy, which forced some migrants to wait in Mexico while their immigration cases were pending. The case will now head back to the lower court for additional proceedings, but the Supreme Court's ruling puts Biden one step closer to ending the program. Here are some key questions about the policy and what could happen next. What impact will the Supreme Court decision have? Read More A hold on Biden's bid to end the program remains in place, but Thursday's ruling suggested that lower court order should be lifted shortly. That would allow the Biden administration to roll back the "Remain in Mexico" program, something officials first tried to do in 2021 before a federal court decision blocked their efforts … [Read more...] about How today’s Supreme Court decision could change things at the border

Supreme Court says Biden can end Trump-era ‘Remain in Mexico’ immigration policy
(CNN) The Supreme Court on Thursday gave President Joe Biden the green light to end the controversial "Remain in Mexico" immigration policy that originated under the Trump administration. Since the beginning of his administration, Biden has tried to wind down the policy, which sends certain non-Mexican citizens who entered the US back to Mexico -- instead of detaining them or releasing them into the United States -- while their immigration proceedings played out. The ruling was 5-4, and states that immigration law gives the federal government the discretion to end the program, formally known as Migrant Protection Protocols. The case will go back down to lower courts for additional proceedings around his latest attempt to end the program. A hold on Biden's bid to end the program remains in place, but Thursday's ruling suggested that that order should be lifted shortly. DEMS DONE WITH JOE… NYT: Should Biden Run in 2024? Democratic Whispers of ‘No’ Start to Rise. Interviews with nearly 50 Democratic officials, from county leaders to members of Congress, as well as with disappointed voters who backed Mr. Biden in 2020, reveal a party alarmed about Republicans’ rising strength and extraordinarily pessimistic about an immediate path forward. “To say our country was on the right track would flagrantly depart from reality,” said Steve Simeonidis, a Democratic National Committee member from Miami. Mr. Biden, he said, “should announce his intent not to seek re-election in ’24 right after the midterms.” […] “The presidency is a monstrously taxing job and the stark reality is the president would be closer to 90 than 80 at the end of a second term, and that would be a major issue,” said David Axelrod, the chief strategist for Barack Obama’s two winning presidential campaigns. Apple’s Controversial Decision About One of Its Most Popular Products Is Making People Mad
When Apple introduced the M1 iPad Pro, it begged the question: Why would Apple put the same processor that comes in a MacBook Air , into an iPad if it isn't going to do more. Surely, the M1 is overkill for a tablet . It's way more powerful than what is required for any of the things you can do on an iPad. Some people even thought Apple might be getting ready to let the iPad Pro run macOS. Then, Apple put the M1 in the 2022 iPad Air , which is kind of wild when you consider the iPad Air is the middle-of-the-line iPad, and it's sporting the same internals as the world's most popular laptop. At a minimum, an iPad with the M1 should be able to do more Mac-like things, like, perhaps, real multitasking. Finally, at its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) earlier this month, Apple delivered just that. Well, sort of. It wasn't what a lot of people were asking for--to let the iPad Pro run macOS . Instead, Apple released what it calls Stage Manager in iPadOS 16, which … [Read more...] about Apple’s Controversial Decision About One of Its Most Popular Products Is Making People Mad
Editors Daily Rundown: Another Inflation Explosion
ANOTHER INFLATION EXPLOSION… CNBC: Inflation rose 9.1% in June, even more than expected, as price pressures intensify Shoppers paid sharply higher prices for a variety of goods in June as inflation kept its hold on a slowing U.S. economy, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday. The consumer price index, a broad measure of everyday goods and services, soared 9.1% from a year ago, above the 8.8% Dow Jones estimate. That marked another month of the fastest pace for inflation going back to December 1981. Excluding volatile food and energy prices, so-called core CPI increased 5.9%, compared to the 5.7% estimate. On a monthly basis, headline CPI rose 1.3% and core CPI was up 0.7%, compared to respective estimates of 1.1% and 0.5%. Taken together, the numbers seemed to counter the narrative that inflation may be peaking, as the gains were based across a variety of categories. Escape From The US: How To Move To Canada
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin How to move to Canada from the US—it’s a question many people started asking as soon as the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last week, with Google searches for the topic “how to move to Canada” spiking . The phrase “How to become a Canadian citizen” also spiked 550% in the hour after the decision came out. This isn’t the first time this has happened. During the 2016 election, so many American were looking into how to move out of the US that the Canadian Citizenship and Immigration website crashed . Man fights Indian Railways for 22 years for justice (and 9 baht)
Twenty-two years is a long time to fight a court battle, but nine baht is nine baht, right? A lawyer in India believes so and has fought for justice against Indian Railways for more than two decades because he was overcharged by 20 Indian rupees, the equivalent of almost 9 baht, 21 pence, or 25 American cents. The lawyer who is now 66 years old, bought a train ticket in 1999 in Uttar Pradesh to travel from Mathura station to Moradabad, a 70-rupees (31-baht) ride. But he was charged 90 rupees and despite his protests, he was not refunded. The man went to the local consumer court and filed a complaint seeking justice against North East Railways Service, a division of Indian Railways. The resolution didn’t come quickly, but the man dug in his heels, and over the past 22 years, he attended 100 hearings in the case. Years were lost in the fight against Indian Railways, but the sacrifice was worthwhile for justice, according to the man. “You can’t put a price on the energy and time … [Read more...] about Man fights Indian Railways for 22 years for justice (and 9 baht)

(CNN) For weeks now, migrants have been arriving by the busload in New York City and Washington, sent there by Texas Republican Gov.
