Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Snowflake is the most anticipated IPO of the year. Investors should decide in advance how much they are willing to pay as Snowflake will test the upper limits of what it means to have a stretched valuation. Heck, the company has even inspired value-legend Warren Buffet to change his thesis and invest in an IPO prior to profitability (!) Perhaps because the company delivered sky-high revenue growth last fiscal year of 173% and 121% in the most recent quarter with a record-breaking net retention rate of 158% — which is the highest of any public cloud company at time of listing. These industry-leading numbers are due to the company disrupting the data warehousing market with a superior cloud data platform that delivers across key differentiators (we review this below). Despite Snowflake demonstrating excellent product-market fit, clear competitive advantages, and strong management — no company is perfect. We go over a few … [Read more...] about Snowflake IPO: In-Depth Analysis

Avoid An SVB-Style Default And Match Your Investments With Your Goals
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin “Held-to-maturity” is a phrase that has been thrown around a lot in the days following Silicon Valley Bank’s implosion. Here’s what it means, why it matters, and how you might avoid SVB 's VB fatal mistakes in your own personal financial planning. SVB received an enormous amount of deposits from enterprising venture capital firms in the post-pandemic boom of late 2020 through 2021. At the time, the Fed Funds rate was a lofty zilch, zero, nada. So, in order to earn something—anything—SVB invested in high(ish)-quality debt instruments with longer maturities, like mortgage-backed securities, and placed them in their “held-to-maturity” book of investments. They knew that if interest rates rose, those debt securities would lose value on paper, but if they waited for them to mature, they should still receive a return of their principal and some interest along the way. But, as the Fed raised rates, SVB’s banking … [Read more...] about Avoid An SVB-Style Default And Match Your Investments With Your Goals

Is Oracle Making ‘Best Of Breed’ Enterprise Apps A Thing Of The Past With Fusion?
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin As I listened to Oracle's recent industry analyst briefing on the future of Oracle Cloud Customer Experience (CX), Oracle's front-office software, I couldn't help wondering whether we have finally resolved the ongoing debate about seeking out best-of-breed applications for every function versus going with an integrated suite. I get this question across all my company’s advisory practices in software, services and yes, even hardware. It’s just a fact that the best-of-breed approach can become an integration effort, with a separate upgrade cadence for each software package—potentially followed by integration troubleshooting each time around. There really are no “magic APIs” for large enterprise apps. Enterprises need to weigh a potential order of magnitude value-add in a point product versus these challenges outlined above. I’m not saying it’s never worth it, but it better be. Oracle has a suite and issues software … [Read more...] about Is Oracle Making ‘Best Of Breed’ Enterprise Apps A Thing Of The Past With Fusion?
