Yatish Rajawat – What was your objective in writing the book and what do you think is its impact? Harish Mehta - I’ll go back to say, 3 years, when I was reading books of RBI governors, IAS officers, politicians, etc. I have been involved with NASSCOM from the beginning and have seen how NASSCOM and the IT industry have evolved and how India has changed, I’m very proud of what everyone has done in this process. However, I didn’t see any of those books giving any credit to our industry - NASSCOM is not even listed anywhere, leave alone its contribution. There is an African proverb you may remember or know, “If lions had historians the tales of hunting would be different.” So that drove me to write the book about the story of how the IT industry changed. Like Dr. Sumant Rao Bhosre used to say, 1000 years of the downward spiral of India was arrested by the IT industry of India. NASSCOM was the sutradhar driving it. So that is what I used as a theme in my book. We have put our … [Read more...] about Policy Talk | Startups need to define their vision as an industry

EU plans for life without Russian gas amid inflation spike
- A + A BRUSSELS (June 24): EU leaders on Friday warned that "cheap energy is gone" and agreed to boost preparations for further cuts in Russian gas, accusing Moscow of "weaponising" energy via a supply squeeze which Germany warned could partly shut its industry. A day after celebrations over setting Kyiv on the road to membership of the bloc, Friday's summit in Brussels was a sober reflection on the economic impact of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, with growing worries over soaring prices and warnings of a "tough winter". "Inflation is a major concern for all of us," European Council chief Charles Michel told a news conference as the two-day summit ended. "Russia's war of aggression is pushing up the price of food, energy and commodities," he said, adding that leaders had agreed to closely coordinate their economic policy responses. The summit agreed few concrete steps but the leaders tasked the European Commission with finding more ways to secure "supply at … [Read more...] about EU plans for life without Russian gas amid inflation spike

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Tobacco companies are already dancing on the grave of the vaping giant, once popular with teens. T he Juul Era ended on Wednesday when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration banned the e-cigarette brand —once America’s favorite nicotine vape, with a 70% market share—from selling its products in America. Founded by entrepreneurs James Monsees and Adam Bowen , who met while studying at Stanford, Juul was blamed for igniting a rise in teen vaping through its youthful marketing campaigns and fruity flavors . (The company eventually pulled those flavors from the market.) Despite wide concerns about the underage use of vapes, the FDA decision hinged on another aspect of the product. The agency noted that Juul provided insufficient and “conflicting” data on potentially harmful chemicals that leak from its nicotine liquid pods. The vapes will be banned from distribution in the U.S. and pulled from shelves. Juul said … [Read more...] about Juul E-Cigarette Ban Creates $1 Billion Opportunity For Vape Companies
