(Image: Action Images/Jed Leicester via Reuters) Earlier this week, media rights for the 2023-27 cycle of the Indian Premier league (IPL) – television and digital rights combined – were sold at an astounding Rs 48,390 crore , nearly triple what the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) got for them in the 2018-22 cycle. The five seasons will amount to 370 matches, which means the BCCI will earn INR 49.6 lakh per ball – and that is just from broadcasting. One can see why channels pay such exorbitant amounts to cover the IPL. A league-stage clash (not a playoffs match) between the Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in 2021 was watched by 367 million. The 2019 World Cup final – the most high-profile international match – attracted a mere 167 million, while the Boxing Day Test match of the 2021/22 Ashes was watched by a mere 440,000. Here’s Why Apple Has Now Sold 1 Billion iPhones
Tim Cook held an iPhone 6s Plus high in the air. The CEO of Apple had a grin a mile wide, and he has a good reason to be excited. That actual phone--it's the Rose Gold version in the photo above--is the one billionth sold , a milestone few tech companies can boast. "The iPhone has become one of the most important, world-changing and successful products in history. It doesn't crash, the apps load quickly, you can find what you need, you get your stuff done. Even when new apps debut, like one I've tested called Lola that helps you find hotels and flights, they work without glitches. About one billion people agree with me. I decided … [Read more...] about Here’s Why Apple Has Now Sold 1 Billion iPhones

A former model had accused Cristiano Ronaldo of assaulting her in a Las Vegas hotel room in 2009. A US district judge has dismissed a rape lawsuit against football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, castigating the legal team behind the complaint. Judge Jennifer Dorsey threw out the case brought by Kathryn Mayorga, a former model and teacher, who alleged she was assaulted by the Portuguese soccer star in a Las Vegas hotel room in 2009. The 37-year-old Manchester United player has always denied the allegations and maintained that the relationship with Mayorga was completely consensual. In a 42-page ruling released Friday, the judge accused Mayorga's attorneys of "abuses and flagrant circumvention of the proper litigation process" and said that as a result, "Mayorga loses her opportunity to pursue this case."
