A Travel Company So Discerning They Even Smell Their Tour Guides
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Gyde and Seek is a travel platform that does not believe in travel as usual. I confirmed this in Mexico this summer after becoming addicted to the customized, socially-conscious private touring company that operates in 20-plus cities internationally. If you haven’t tried it, you really should. Paco is a former professional bullfighter and ex-Olympic chess prodigy who’s as at home in Mexico City’s ballet folklórico scene as he is taking visitors to lucha libre . In colonial Puebla, Maria knows the best hidden spots for baroque dishes, like chiles en nogada, but her true passion is tacos árabe. Then there’s Salvador , who will elucidate Toltec ruins in Tula or the Aztec glyphs of Tepotzotlán but can go deep on Chicago blues, too. The company was co-founded by Vanessa Guibert Heitner, a veteran travel planner, and her friend Andrea Guthrie, a business strategist who grew up living around the world with her … [Read more...] about A Travel Company So Discerning They Even Smell Their Tour Guides
China’s airlines could join the multibillion-dollar exit from US stock markets
- A + A HONG KONG (Aug 15): The decision by five Chinese state-owned companies to leave US stock exchanges adds to scepticism that authorities in both countries can reach an agreement on disclosure rules, with analysts seeing state-controlled airlines as the next potential group to depart, possibly followed by internet giants. China and Hong Kong are the only jurisdictions worldwide that do not allow inspections by the US Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, with Beijing officials citing national security and confidentiality concerns. With a deadline for delistings set for 2024 for those firms that are not compliant, US lawmakers are considering passing a bill to bring it forward to next year. The announcement on Aug 12 by firms including China Life Insurance Co and PetroChina Co could "soon" be followed by China Eastern Airlines Corp and China Southern Airlines Co, according to Redmond Wong, a Greater China market strategist at Saxo Bank. Shares of those … [Read more...] about China’s airlines could join the multibillion-dollar exit from US stock markets
Najib’s bid to adduce fresh evidence is an attempt to delay SRC proceedings, says prosecutor
Najib was found guilty of all seven graft charges the former premier faced in relation to SRC — one count of abuse of power in approving RM4 billion in loans from Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP) to SRC, and three counts each of criminal breach of trust and money laundering involving RM42 million worth of SRC’s funds. (Photo by Suhaimi Yusuf/The Edge) - A + A PUTRAJAYA (Aug 15): Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s application to adduce fresh evidence in his SRC International Sdn Bhd trial is an attempt to delay the case's proceedings, said ad hoc prosecutor Datuk V Sithambaram. Speaking to reporters after the hearing of the former prime minister's application at the Federal Court on Monday (Aug 15), Sithambaram said the prosecution takes the stance that the application is merely an attempt by the defence to delay the trial. “The prosecution thinks [the defence] is delaying, but they (the defence) think otherwise. Both of us are entitled to our views,” he said. However, the … [Read more...] about Najib’s bid to adduce fresh evidence is an attempt to delay SRC proceedings, says prosecutor

Paytm vs PhonePe: Merchant sound device may be at heart of feud
Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma (left) and PhonePe founder Sameer Nigam A host of things can trigger bitter rivalry between top fintech companies. These include – apart from market share – the creation of slicker apps, developing better credit algorithms, hiring the best talent, or winning the most important licences. Fintech unicorns Paytm, PhonePe and BharatPe are now competing fiercely on another front: Deploying more speaker devices in stores that announce receipt of payments made through their apps. Picture this. A shopkeeper is catering to several customers. Some pay cash and others use payment apps to scan the now ubiquitous quick response (QR) code pasted on the front desk. The busy merchant barely manages a glance at the message on their mobile phone screens confirming payment and they leave. Later, the merchant discovers the payment did not reach his account. And he realises that he was duped – the mobile screen message confirming completion of the payment … [Read more...] about Paytm vs PhonePe: Merchant sound device may be at heart of feud
