Three Steps To Build The Future Of Nature

March 22, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Don’t Rescue It – Design And Engineer It Through Experimentation At Scale The future has a way of sneaking up on you if you don’t have an open mind. Ten years ago, my colleague Peter Kareiva was talking about genetically engineering meat – and I thought, “That’s never going to happen in my lifetime.” And now look where we are . So what’s the future of nature? Many people answer this question by immediately assuming the worst – that human activity (led by climate change) is likely to destroy nature and all of us who depend on it. We need to pose the question as a prompt to creative thinking instead of despair. Only an open, innovative mindset will allow us to seize all the opportunities now before us. And that openness starts with being open about what nature itself is and can be. Step One: Accept That We Are Experimenting with Nature at Big Scales, and Do So Intentionally The first step in thinking … [Read more...] about Three Steps To Build The Future Of Nature

The “Hullabaloo” Of ChatGPT

March 23, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin CTO & Head of AI - Responsible for driving ethical, explainable & pragmatic AI for global customers @ Provenio AI . The Spice The power of reinforcement learning is phenomenal. It has special importance in the AI ecosystem and is unapologetically ubiquitous in nature. Reinforcement learning, simply put, is the main "spice" in tools like ChatGPT. Undoubtedly, ChatGPT has been intelligently crafted with a series of reinforcement-learning algorithms, plus more ingredients, and is no doubt taking the world by storm. People are relating to the technology by focusing on the use cases and gamifying it—the free use and access also help capture the public's imagination. But I did not like the rap song it wrote me. I'll carry that opinion to the grave. "Show The thumb And Get Your Hand Eaten" The concept of feedback economics has existed for a while. Unknowingly, we always provide feedback to systems … [Read more...] about The “Hullabaloo” Of ChatGPT

Pink Floyd Graphic Designer On ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ Cover Turning 50

March 23, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Not only is Pink Floyd's 1973 progressive rock album, The Dark Side of the Moon , iconic, but so is its simple yet striking cover art: a triangular prism set against a black background with a ray of light refracting through it. Though the band's name and the record's title do not appear on the front cover, the design is universally recognizable and synonymous with Pink Floyd—so much so that it has since appeared on apparel, posters, mugs, magnets, beach towels, patches, buttons, a British postage stamp , and even the sides of vehicles . In essence, The Dark Side of the Moon design has become the band's unofficial visual trademark. The distinctive cover art was conceived by the British graphic design company Hipgnosis , founded in the late 1960s by Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey Powell, which has long worked on Pink Floyd albums. In the five decades since the release of The Dark Side of the Moon ( which is marking … [Read more...] about Pink Floyd Graphic Designer On ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ Cover Turning 50

March 22, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Goldman Sachs revealed that the company is using generative AI tools to aid its software developers in writing and testing code, just weeks after reports of major U.S. banks—including Goldman—restricting staffers’ use of ChatGPT. Key Facts The bank’s use of generative AI was only a “proof of concept,” Marco Argenti, Goldman’s chief information officer told CNBC Tuesday. The AI tool has been used by the company’s software developers to write “as much as 40%” of code in some cases, the report said. The tool does not intend to fully replace human coders, but rather make them “more productive,” Argenti said. Argenti did not disclose which generative AI tool is being used by the investment bank Key Background Last month, the Telegraph and Bloomberg reported that JPMorgan Chase had restricted the use of ChatGPT by its staff. The reports suggested that the ban wasn’t a result of any … [Read more...] about Goldman Is Reportedly Using AI To Write Code As Banks Crack Down On ChatGPT Use
