A Plano accounting, tax and advisory firm is combining with a Chicago-based company that's growing its Texas presence. Montgomery Coscia Greilich LLP, the seventh-largest accounting firm in Dallas-Fort Worth, announced Tuesday that it's merging with Baker Tilly Virchow Krause LLP, effective June 1. In 50 years of marriage, Dana and Cynthia (Walstrom) House built a family, started businesses and gave selflessly to others both locally and internationally. Former Bloomington residents, the Houses died Jan. 14 in a car crash involving a semitrailer truck near Meade, Kan. The Houses, both 71, were traveling to their winter home in Goodyear, Ariz., where they had been residents for the past five years. The two were born and raised in northern Minnesota, him in Two Harbors and her in Cloquet. They met at Concordia College in Moorhead in 1965, and both transferred to the University of Minnesota-Duluth to complete their educations. Shortly after they were married in 1968, Dana House was drafted and served two years with the Marine Corps. After returning from military service, he started his own accounting firm that eventually became the Bloomington firm House, Nezerka & Froelich. Financial advisory firm Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, with offices in Minneapolis, announced it is merging with Springsted Inc. of St. Paul, which provides public sector financial guidance. The move will add some 200 Springsted employees to Baker Tilly after a transition period. The combined firm’s presence in St. Paul will be maintained. Also involved in the deal is Indianapolis-based accounting firm H.J. Umbaugh and Associates. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Accounting firm Baker Tilly Virchow Krause is acquiring two companies, including St. Paul-based Springsted Inc., to build one of the largest municipal finance advisory firms in the United States. Baker Tilly is a Chicago-based network of accounting firms with 45 offices in North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Australia and more than 3,000 employees. Its Minneapolis office employs 240 people. The firm plans to combine its existing public-service practice with those of Springsted and H.J. Umbaugh and Associates, an Indianapolis firm that Baker Tilly also is acquiring. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.
