One of my favorite lines in a song comes from—wait for it—Katy Perry’s Roar : “I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything,” which is a cue for my youngest daughter to sprint to her costume pile, and the rest of my family to start dancing like crazy around our house. Anytime I am in a situation where I feel like keeping my hand down instead of raising it or swallowing a comment because I felt like my voice wasn’t the most important one in the room, I remember that line. If you don’t stand up for yourself, you are allowing someone else to choose your path. It’s only when you find your voice and stand your ground that you realize you always had the ability to do it, you just had to stand up for yourself. As often happens in my life, I learned this lesson the hard way, as a charity auctioneer. Tell me if this sounds familiar. You walk into a meeting filled with people of all ages and genders. This scenario doesn’t have to be in an office, it could be a classroom, a … [Read more...] about The mindset shift you need in order to stop your inner voice from sabotaging you

Ex-NEA exec warns vs ‘profit motive’ of Aboitiz firm in taking over Davao electric coop franchise
INQUIRER.net FILE PHOTO TAGUM CITY — A former top executive of the National Electrification Administration (NEA) has urged member-consumers of the Northern Davao Electric Cooperative (Nordeco) to continue raising their voice against the planned entry of the Aboitiz-owned Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) into its franchise area or else they would fall into the supposed ‘profit motive’ of the firm. Edgrado Masongsong, secretary general of the National Center of Electric Consumers Cooperative (NCECCO), warned Nordeco member consumers that if they allow DLPC to take over several areas of its franchise, the members would turn into “mere rental payers” of the power distribution company. Unlike private power companies, which are allowed to raise power rates in the era of deregulation, power coops still continue to consult with their members and even report to them the cooperative’s financial status every end of the year. Masongsong, a former NEA administrator, cited their … [Read more...] about Ex-NEA exec warns vs ‘profit motive’ of Aboitiz firm in taking over Davao electric coop franchise

Richard Gomez on Thursday ramped up their call to amend the 1987 Constitution, specifically its economic provisions, likening their alliance to the biblical brothers Cain and Abel. In a press conference through the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) — both of which are members — Padilla amplified his calls to amend the 1987 Constitution with Gomez. “Hindi naman po kaila sa inyo ‘yan na kaming dalawa ang Cain at Abel, kaming dalawa ‘yan. Pero ngayon nandito kami magkasama kami hindi para sa pelikulang Pilipino kundi para sa taong bayan, para ipakita, sa ating mambabatas na hindi na ito issue ng senado o kongres, ito po ay issue ng pagunlad, totoong pagbabago” said Padilla. (You know that we are Cain and Abel. But today, we are here together, not for the Filipino film industry but for the … [Read more...] about Once rivals, now allies: Robin Padilla, Richard Gomez team up for Cha-cha
Gomez says he convinced Romualdez to back con-ass to amend 1987 Constitution
Leyte Rep. Richard Gomez. FILE PHOTO MANILA, Philippines — Leyte Rep. Richard Gomez on Thursday said he convinced Speaker Martin Romualdez to support constitutional assembly (con-ass) as the mode of amending the 1987 Constitution. During a press briefing with the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) on Thursday, Gomez said he was able to convince Romualdez during a Party Leaders’ meeting on Tuesday. “When we reported to our Speaker, he said yes, kasi ang proseso ng House ‘pag hindi pareho yung hakbang namin, in this case nasa Con-con (constitutional convention) kami, ang Senate con-ass, ‘pag hindi pareho ‘yung lakbay namin magkikita naman sa bicam (bicameral conference), and then sa bicam they will come up with a resolution,” said Gomez when asked if the House would now support con-ass. US to lift COVID-19 emergencies – what happens next?
In this file photo taken on May 12, 2020 Healthcare workers wait for patients to be tested at a walk-in Covid-19 testing site in Arlington, Virginia. AFP WASHINGTON — With US Covid-19 deaths averaging 500 a day, down from a peak of more than 3,000 two years ago, the White House plans to end national and public health emergencies on May 11. A public health emergency in response to the pandemic was declared under former president Donald Trump in January 2020 and has been renewed every 90 days since then. Trump declared a national emergency in March 2020 and it was renewed by President Joe Biden. More than 1.1 million Americans have died of Covid — but life has been gradually returning to normal as the pandemic eases and vaccination levels approach 70 percent of the population. A lifting of the national and public health emergencies will have a number of impacts: Why May 11? The Biden administration announced the May 11 date in response to an attempt by Republicans in … [Read more...] about US to lift COVID-19 emergencies – what happens next?
[Meanwhile] ‘No work, no pay’ for lawmakers, too (KOR)
SOHN HAE-YONG The author is the economic news editor of the JoongAng Ilbo. Korean lawmakers get some of the best treatments in the world. Last year, each member of the National Assembly was paid 154.26 million won ($117,900) before taxes, including salary and activity allowance. In terms of per capita GDP, Japan and Italy are the only countries that give higher salaries to lawmakers than their Korean counterparts. On top of that, lawmakers are provided with extra expenses, including business expenses, gasoline subsidies and trip expenses. Each lawmaker has nine aids. All together, one lawmaker costs 756 million won a year. The money is deposited into the account of lawmakers every month even if they do not engage in parliamentary activities. It is entirely paid by taxpayers’ money. Though lawmakers are paid a salary equivalent to the labor cost of a good medium-sized business, their productivity is very low. The approval rate of bills proposed in the 21st National Assembly is … [Read more...] about [Meanwhile] ‘No work, no pay’ for lawmakers, too (KOR)
New ventures drive growth for LG Energy Solution
KooRoo’s battery swapping station [LG ENERGY SOLUTION] LG Energy Solution is pushing ahead with its new businesses and focusing on future growth with in-house ventures KooRoo and AVEL, the battery manufacturing unit of LG Group said. KooRoo, established last year, is seeking to commercialize its battery swapping stations (BSS), which increase the convenience for users of electric motorbikes by allowing them to swap out a used battery for a fully-charged one rather than having to spend time charging the original battery. The service addresses a lot of the issues raised by electric vehicle users, including the long charge time, relatively short distance that can be traveled and high maintenance costs. “If the electric motorbike battery ecosystem grows, it will help delivery services, be eco-friendly, quiet and safe," said Ahn Hong-duk, head of KooRoo. “We are set to initiate developing exclusive BSS battery packs and stations and plan to build up the electric motorcycle … [Read more...] about New ventures drive growth for LG Energy Solution

The headquarters of the Jesus Morning Star (JMS) religious organization in Geumsan, South Chungcheong [JOONGANG PHOTO] Prosecutors and police raided the headquarters of the controversial pseudo-Christian religious organization Jesus Morning Star (JMS) Thursday as part of their investigation into allegations that its leader Jeong Myeong-seok sexually assaulted more female followers. Some 200 investigators from the Chungnam Provincial Police and the Daejeon District Prosecutors’ Office searched the head office of JMS located in Geumsan, South Chungcheong, as well as the houses of Jeong and his accomplice the same day. Celebrity-Backed Bail Funds Freed People Who Allegedly Went On To Kill: REPORT
Bail assistance groups including the Northwest Community Bail Fund, Minnesota Freedom Fund and Bail Project recorded massive funding increases after George Floyd’s death, according to CNN. Multiple individuals bailed from prison with the organizations’ help were subsequently arrested for murder, the outlet reported. “The charitable bail funds, just by the nature of the enterprise, are going to be helping the riskier people,” Columbia University Associate Law Professor Kellen Funk told CNN. Nonprofit organizations dedicated to bailing criminal defendants out of jail received huge funding increases in 2020 following the death of George Floyd, but some of those they helped release allegedly committed murder afterward, according to CNN. Several bail groups got social media endorsements from famous figures like Vice President Kamala Harris, recording artist Justin Timberlake and actor Seth Rogen after Floyd was murdered by a Minneapolis police officer in May 2020 and protests … [Read more...] about Celebrity-Backed Bail Funds Freed People Who Allegedly Went On To Kill: REPORT
HART: Soros-Funded Manhattan District Attorney Predictably Weaponizes His Office Against Trump
The right-wing “conspiracy theorists” have been saying that COVID originated in a lab in Wuhan, China and Anthony Fauci was involved. They insist the arrests over January 6 were unjust, Hunter Biden’s laptop was not “Russian disinformation,” and the “Deep State” is out to get Trump. For those keeping score at home, conspiracy theorists are leading the media about 25 to 0. It seems to be common knowledge that the left-wing DA in Manhattan, Alvin Bragg, is going to try to arrest Donald Trump for some manipulated charges from seventeen years ago connected to his paying stripper Stormy Daniels money for an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) — which she broke. Wow, if you can’t trust a stripper/ho, whom can you trust? An NDA, as Tiger is finding out, is only good unless they can make more money trashing you. Stormy does not have a knee to stand on in this NDA case. So, with the NDA Trump made Stormy keep her mouth closed. Given this, her best case might be “restraint of trade.” … [Read more...] about HART: Soros-Funded Manhattan District Attorney Predictably Weaponizes His Office Against Trump
