How to deal with stress while working in a demanding industry
Workplace stress is increasingly becoming a larger part of the conversation since the pandemic. And against the backdrop of hustle culture, reports indicate that the number of people seeking help with stress or anxiety has increased by 55% , according to a study by a mental health services provider in the United Kingdom. The British Health and Safety Executive indicates that in 2021 alone, 822,000 workers in the U.K. suffered from work-related stress, depression, or anxiety. advertisement advertisement I entered law—the second most stressed-out professional in Britain, according to insurance company, Protectivity—in 2009 as an ambitious high-achiever. As a career defined by its high standards and perfectionism, it is often home to high-achievers and the ambitious few who are willing to burn the candle at both ends and make the sacrifice required to progress. But the impact stress was having on my life nearly resulted in my leaving the profession … [Read more...] about How to deal with stress while working in a demanding industry
US CHIPS Act Needs Stronger Congressional Backing NOW!
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin I grew up in San Jose, CA. When I was born here, this city and area was filled with orchards of apricot, peach, cherry, and other fruit trees and was known then as "The Valley of Heart’s Delights." Two of the largest canning factories were only a few miles from my house, and during the summer, I would wake up in the morning to the smell of apricots, peaches, and plums cooking as the fruit was prepared for canning. However, with the birth of the semiconductor industry in the late 1950s, our region underwent a radical transformation that made it what is known today as Silicon Valley. Companies like Shockley Semiconductor, Fairchild, Intel, and dozens of others who created semiconductors and related technology took root in our region. Now thousands of tech companies call this area their home. Sadly almost all of the orchards are gone and replaced by business complexes and housing to support the growing tech companies in the … [Read more...] about US CHIPS Act Needs Stronger Congressional Backing NOW!
KL Bar also opposes Najib’s QC bid, says no indication Najib lost confidence in Shafee to argue SRC case
- A + A KUALA LUMPUR (June 29): The Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee (KL Bar), which represents about 10,000 lawyers in the capital, has also objected to Datuk Seri Najib Razak's bid to hire Jonathan Laidlaw, a lawyer from the United Kingdom, for his final appeal in the SRC International Sdn Bhd graft case. The KL Bar echoed the sentiment of the case's prosecution and the Malaysian bar that local lawyers, including Najib's own lead counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, are more than qualified to handle the case. There is also nothing to suggest that the former prime minister has lost confidence in Shafee to lead the final appeal of the graft case, in which Najib was convicted by the High Court in July 2020 of misappropriating RM42 million worth of funds from SRC, formerly a subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd. "There is nothing to suggest that [Shafee] has lost confidence to argue the appeal; nor that [Najib] has lost confidence in [Shafee]'s competence to … [Read more...] about KL Bar also opposes Najib’s QC bid, says no indication Najib lost confidence in Shafee to argue SRC case
Queen Elizabeth meets Sturgeon after new push for independence vote
LONDON (Reuters) - Queen Elizabeth held a meeting with Scotland's Nicola Sturgeon on Wednesday, a day after the Scottish leader set out plans to push for a second independence referendum to break away from the United Kingdom. Buckingham Palace said the 96-year-old queen, who is spending the week in Scotland, had received Sturgeon as well as a Scottish Parliament official in Edinburgh's Holyrood Palace. On Tuesday, Sturgeon, who is Scotland's first minister, announced plans for a second independence referendum to be held on October 2023, and vowed to take legal action if the British government blocks it. Voters in Scotland, which has a population of around 5.5 million, rejected independence by 55% to 45% in a referendum in 2014. The Scottish National Party, which runs Scotland's semi-autonomous government, says Britain's decision in a referendum in 2016 to leave the European Union - a move opposed by a majority of Scots - means the issue must be put to a second vote. Review: Aiper Seagull 1500 Intelligent Cordless Pool Cleaner
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin My family recently had an in-ground pool installed in our back yard. With three older kids in the house (who need to spend less time playing video games), travel becoming prohibitively expensive, and summers getting hotter than ever, it seemed like the right move. What I didn’t realize was how much work maintenance would be. Skimming leaves off the top is easy enough, but vacuuming the pool is the worst. So when Aiper offered to send a Seagull 1500 Intelligent Cordless Pool Cleaner — a robotic pool cleaner — for evaluation, I was all over it. Reduced effort and technology are a winning combination in my books. Here’s how my experience with the Aiper Seagull 1500 went. I Hate Vacuuming the Pool I quickly discovered that vacuuming the pool is a real chore. Oddly enough, the pool sales team didn’t exactly focus on the maintenance aspect of pool ownership. Ours isn’t large (28 feet by 14 feet), but our yard is surrounded … [Read more...] about Review: Aiper Seagull 1500 Intelligent Cordless Pool Cleaner
Live updates | Italy sees no NATO military escalation
The Associated Press MADRID (AP) — The Latest on the NATO summit in Madrid: ___ Italian Premier Mario Draghi says plans for an increased U.S. military presence in Europe don’t amount to a military escalation within NATO. Should Cypark shareholders be worried?
This article first appeared in The Edge Malaysia Weekly, on June 13, 2022 - June 19, 2022. - A + A STARTING out as a waste management and environmental company before venturing into the renewable energy (RE) space, Cypark Resources Bhd has been the proxy for the RE theme play, given its exposure to the niche landfill-sanitisation market and the fact that it is the only company of its kind in Malaysia. While there have been ups and downs for Cypark since it was listed about 12 years ago, the last three weeks have been arguably the most challenging period for the company, which intends to convert solid waste into electricity. Its share price plunged 55% to 31 sen on June 10, from 69 sen on May 20. Concerns have been raised over the delays of Cypark’s ongoing projects, including its floating solar plant in Tasik Danau Tok Uban (DTU) in Pasir Mas, Kelantan, and its solid waste modular advance recovery and treatment waste-to-energy (SMART WTE) plant in Ladang … [Read more...] about Should Cypark shareholders be worried?
