June 24, 2022 by www.thestar.com.my

SINGAPORE (The Straits Times/Asia News Network): An increasing number of travellers flying into Singapore are reporting lost or damaged luggage as a result of issues at their airport of departure amid a global manpower crunch, said Changi Airport's main ground handler Sats. Some travellers also have to wait longer to collect their luggage after arrival, but service targets have otherwise been met for most incoming flights, Sats told The Straits Times. Several airports worldwide - London's Heathrow among them - have been struggling with snaking queues and luggage issues as air travel strongly rebounds. But while Singapore and Asia have largely avoided chaotic airport scenes, industry experts have warned that the region could face similar issues as air travel volumes pick up. The Sats spokesman said: "Issues at origin airports are causing a ripple effect on us and our passengers. "We have noticed an increase in enquiries on missing and damaged luggage from travellers arriving … [Read more...] about Travellers landing at Changi report missing luggage following chaos at origin airports

Air Canada Announces Major Reduction In Flights Due To Unprecedented Travel Chaos

July 1, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Air Canada announced on Friday that it “is now making meaningful reductions to our schedule in July and August in order to reduce passenger volumes and flows to a level we believe the air transport system can accommodate.” These reductions will significantly impact summer travel in July and August. The announcement was in response to growing national and international news reports that put Air Canada’s record of flight cancellations and delays among some of the worst on record in the world currently. Lately, Air Canada has also been facing even more criticism due to unprecedented reports of late and misplaced luggage. All of this negative publicity lead president and CEO of Air Canada, Michael Rousseau, to send Air Canada’s clients an email on Wednesday to address concerns about the carrier’s performance. A Good Time For Europe Travel? Heatwaves, Strikes, Cancellations— But Fewer Costs, Restrictions

June 22, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The statistics actually look a little bit frightening. More people are traveling than in a long time-at the same time as more and more flights are being cancelled across the U.S., the U.K. and Europe. Despite that, and the heatwaves, and the rising cost of a ticket, it might actually be a good time to travel. Because of the exchange rate. As Europe travel restrictions loosen in June for nearly all major EU destinations, flights are up 290% year-over-year, as reported by TripIt from Concur , with the top destinations including London, Paris, Barcelona and Rome. Greece, for instance, has seen an 884% increase in flight arrivals in April compared to the same month the year before and Bulgaria is expecting 6 million tourists this summer. But the disruption is only just beginning. The Guardian reported that the confluence of Father’s Day and Juneteenth, in addition to a season of “revenge travel” has led to chaos … [Read more...] about A Good Time For Europe Travel?
