With download speed of 7.02 megabytes per second, Vietnam’s internet speed ranking was down 14 places from last year, according to the survey done by Cable, a U.K. broadband, TV, phone and mobile provider. The ranking was based on data collected over 12 months from May last year, analyzing over 267 million speed tests worldwide. Vietnam's average broadband speed was recorded as 10 times slower than Singapore at 70.86 Mbps, more than three times lower than Malaysia (23.86 Mbps) and more than two times slower than Thailand (18.21 Mbps). It was however, ahead of Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos and Timor Leste. This year, Singapore was dethroned and pushed into second place in terms of internet speed by Taiwan, which topped the world with average broadband speed clocking at 85.02 Mbps. MANILA—Despite improvements, average mobile and fixed-line internet speeds in the Philippines still fall below the global average, according to a service that tracks access speeds internationally. Speedtest Global Index said that in terms of mobile internet speed, the Philippines ranks 103rd among 139 surveyed countries. The country's average mobile internet download speed of 15.06 Megabits per second was far below the global average of 26.12 Mbps. This was slower than the 15.2 Mbps registered in Zimbabwe, which years ago experienced an economic meltdown under former strongman Rober Mugabe. The Philippines' mobile internet was also slower than war-torn Syria's (19.48 Mbps). Norway has the fastest mobile internet with a speed (67.54 Mbps), followed by Canada, Qatar, the Netherlands, and South Korea.
