Three Disciplines For Achieving Disruptive Innovation Through Costovation

August 17, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin About twenty-five years ago, Harvard Business School Professor Clayton Christensen coined the term “disruptive innovation.” I worked with Clay for many years building his consulting practice, and I can tell you that he had no idea the concept would take off as it did. Nor did he suspect that interpretations of the concept would become so mangled. It was one of his regrets that he didn’t call disruptive innovation by a more precise name that might preclude it from being stretched – in common parlance – to cover almost anything. As Clay laid it out and proved through extraordinarily detailed research, disruptive innovation occurs when a new offering caters to an overlooked customer segment through providing greater accessibility – which might come in forms such as low price, ease of learning, extreme convenience, and so on. Incumbents usually neglect these offerings because they aren’t as financially appealing (at first!) as … [Read more...] about Three Disciplines For Achieving Disruptive Innovation Through Costovation

New CDC Covid-19 Quarantine Guidelines Viewed As ‘Giving Up’ On Pandemic Response

August 13, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The more transmissible BA.5 Omicron subvariant is still spreading. The U.S. has been having an average of 42,816 Covid-19-related hospitalizations and 490 Covid-19-related deaths a day, according to the New York Times , and who knows how many new cases of long Covid a day. Oh, and there have been more and more reports of Paxlovid rebound occuring where people have turned Covid-19 positive after completing the five-day course of the medication and then testing negative, as I recently covered for Forbes . So, with all this happening, what should the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) do? Strengthen Covid-19 precautions? Re-emphasize existing precautions at least? Ummm, how about further relaxing recommended Covid-19 precautions? Is that your final answer? Wouldn’t you like to phone a friend? Well, the last of these options is basically what the CDC did on Thursday when they issued updated guidelines . … [Read more...] about New CDC Covid-19 Quarantine Guidelines Viewed As ‘Giving Up’ On Pandemic Response

Marcos OKs Neda review of ‘antimarket’ BOT Law rules

August 17, 2022 by business.inquirer.net

The country’s chief economist expects more private sector funding for public infrastructure projects materializing soon, as President Marcos approved the plan to revisit the supposedly “antimarket” provisions of the guidelines of the Amended Build-Operation-Transfer (BOT) Law. “We have already received the President’s directive to review the implementing rules and regulations or IRR of the BOT Law. We are presently awaiting the convening of the committee to review the rules,” Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan told the 2022 economic forum organized by the Economic Journalists’ Association of the Philippines (EJAP) and San Miguel Corp. (SMC). “We have received several private sector stakeholders’ comments expressing their concerns over specific provisions of the IRR. Of course, a careful review of the rules requires that we perform a balancing act: encouraging private investment to promote job creation, technological innovation, and product competition while … [Read more...] about Marcos OKs Neda review of ‘antimarket’ BOT Law rules

Georgia Shows Contrasting Direction Of Federal & State Tax Burdens

August 12, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin While Congress is getting ready to raise federal taxes by hundreds of billions of dollars as part of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), it hasn’t gone unnoticed that lawmakers in many state capitals are doing the opposite, enacting tax relief. “Widespread tax breaks in the nation’s statehouses stands in contrast to what’s happening in Washington,” Bloomberg reported on August 9, adding that nearly “two dozen states slashed personal or corporate income-tax rates in the past two years and more than a dozen enacted temporary relief in 2022.” In addition to cutting income tax burdens, there has been a recent trend of states moving from progressive to flat personal income tax rates. Georgia was among the states where legislation was enacted in 2022 to go to a flat tax. The income tax cut signed into law by Governor Brian Kemp (R-Ga.) in April, which will move Georgia from a progressive income tax code with a top rate of 5.75% … [Read more...] about Georgia Shows Contrasting Direction Of Federal & State Tax Burdens
