How This Lifestyle Entrepreneur Went From Living In To Selling Los Angeles’ Most Expensive Homes

November 20, 2021 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin While many methodologies are used to close a sale, there is perhaps no more valuable tool than personal experience—-it's much easier to speak to a product's strengths if one has an intimate knowledge of it. That's why car salespeople are encouraged to take what's on the lot out for a test drive or why sommeliers ought to have tried every wine on the menu. But for luxury real estate agents, especially those with listings in neighborhoods like Holmby Hills or Bel-Air, where mega-mansions can go for upwards of $50 million, firsthand experience is not exactly an option. That's unless you're Sam Palmer. Palmer, who recently joined Beverly Hills-based luxury brokerage Hilton & Hyland 's Partridge Estates Group as a first time agent, is perhaps the only real estate agent in the world whose experience with $100-million listings goes beyond the professional and into the personal. He and his fiancé, Formula One Racing heiress … [Read more...] about How This Lifestyle Entrepreneur Went From Living In To Selling Los Angeles’ Most Expensive Homes

See Inside A Modern Los Angeles Compound Featuring Invader Street Art

May 18, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Luxury interior architecture is often designed with art in mind—blank spans of wall for large paintings, open spaces for sculpture. Less common, however, are homes that also display prized pieces of art on their exterior facade, such as this recently listed modern Venice masterpiece. Sitting a few blocks away from the beach, the 3,400-square-foot contemporary compound houses the first residential commissioned artwork by famed French street artist Invader. The anonymous artist’s signature pixelated mosaic work can be seen from the street behind a hedged fence on the outside corner of one of the property’s multiple structures. Partially inspired by the urban warehouses of Austin and Los Angeles, and railroad-station-turned-arts-center Bergamot Station near Santa Monica, the home’s facade features sleek corrugated metal with pops of vibrant orange, pink and green accenting the black industrial hull. New Video Takes A Peek Inside A $25-Million Los Angeles Midcentury Mansion

May 19, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin One of the key aspects of remodeling a Midcentury Modern home—the popular architectural style with surprising staying power—is maintaining the structure’s original character while implementing updates that suit a 21st-century lifestyle, or so says Los Angeles-based designer-turned-developer Philippe Naouri . Specializing in Midcentury restoration, Naouri has renovated and re-imagined some of Los Angeles’ most prized Modernist gems, including one of his most recently completed projects, a $24.95 million Trousdale Estates mansion . “Nobody really wanted to take on the project because the house was a historical house—so you have to save it,” shared the French-born designer in a recent video tour of the six-bedroom, eight-bathroom abode. “Everything is actually original. We were very careful on recreating the original woodwork." The minimalist residence was built in 1959 for Parisian actress Corinne … [Read more...] about New Video Takes A Peek Inside A $25-Million Los Angeles Midcentury Mansion

From Fickett To Neutra: Mid-Century Perfection Reimagined In Los Angeles

May 15, 2021 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Decades before the "starchitects" and their mega-mansion projects in Beverly Hills and Bel-Air, iconic Mid-Century Modern architects such as Richard Neutra, John Lautner, A. Quincy Jones, Craig Ellwood and Edward Fickett were designing timeless homes around Southern California. Their Modernism styles, noted for walls of glass, open floor plans, and post and beam construction, captured the essence of the indoor-outdoor California lifestyle. The linear and sleek designs many built as custom commissions in the fifties and sixties are perfect in their simplicity. Today, Mid-Century homes that have aged gracefully can boast eight-figure price tags after restoration and expansion. For example, a 4,200-square-foot Malibu property designed by noted Mid-Century architect Edward Fickett is currently listed at $10,000,000. No doubt, Fickett and his contemporaries would gasp at the prices these prized properties are selling for around … [Read more...] about From Fickett To Neutra: Mid-Century Perfection Reimagined In Los Angeles

‘The Longest Shift’ highlights essential workers who kept Los Angeles running

May 14, 2022 by www.fastcompany.com

In December of 2020, Los Angeles-based photographer Sam Comen began photographing the essential workers of Los Angeles—from trauma nurses and grocery store cashiers to truckers and custodial staff—and documenting the toll that the pandemic would take on their lives. Reported during the pandemic’s relentless winter wave, Comen’s photographs laid bare the systemic inequalities that forced underpaid and overworked employees to shoulder an unthinkable burden. They also highlighted their courage and resolve. One year to the day after the country’s first stay-at-home order went into effect, Comen published the work, titled The Longest Shift . advertisement advertisement advertisement advertisement advertisement advertisement … [Read more...] about ‘The Longest Shift’ highlights essential workers who kept Los Angeles running

Legendary Spelling Manor Estate In Los Angeles Lists For $165 Million

May 10, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The last time the Spelling Manor changed hands was in 2019, when it sold to an undisclosed buyer for $119.75 million—the highest recorded residential sale ever for Los Angeles County at the time. Fast-forward three years and the famed estate’s current price of $165 million wouldn’t come close to breaking the new California record set a year ago when venture capitalist Marc Andreessen paid $177 million for a property in Malibu. Still, the $165-million sticker price ranks as one of the highest in the country for a single-family residence. Weighing in at more than 56,000 square feet, the French chateau-inspired estate was originally built for late TV producer Aaron Spelling and his widow, Candy Spelling. Sparing no expense, Candy Spelling customized the sprawling residence with a range of personalized amenity rooms, including a flower-cutting room, a film editing area behind the screen of the home’s movie theater and … [Read more...] about Legendary Spelling Manor Estate In Los Angeles Lists For $165 Million

eBay opens a sneaker store in Los Angeles

May 20, 2022 by www.fastcompany.com

Hot on the heels of Sneaker Con in Anaheim this weekend, eBay will open Wear ‘Em Out, a brick-and-mortar sneaker shop on Fairfax Avenue Memorial Day weekend. The shop will feature exclusive stock of both new season styles as well as collectibles such as the Jordan 1 Retro High OG Patent Bred and the Yeezy Boost 700 Wave Runner. advertisement advertisement However, instead of encouraging sneakerheads to keep prized footwear “on ice,” eBay execs are hoping that shoppers are incentivized to wear their purchases—right out the door. “Most people can identify with that feeling of getting a new pair of shoes that you love so much, you just have to wear them out of the store,” GM of Sneakers at eBay Garry Thaniel said in a statement. “The Wear ‘Em Out store celebrates a love of sneakers, while acknowledging that sneakerheads are often balancing what they wear with what they keep in the box.” advertisement To that end, shoppers who … [Read more...] about eBay opens a sneaker store in Los Angeles
