Interest in Web3 apps is also increasing and these entrepreneurs are catering to that as well. Anticipating the rise of the metaverse, 27-year-old Risa Feng cofounded BUD in 2019 to enhance the new social experiences. Users of this free app can create and exchange 3D content, such as cuddly avatars and objects, in a drag-and-drop fashion. They can also make friends, chat with each other and start online battles in a recently added survivor mode. Following the app’s launch last October, Feng quickly rolled out BUD in app stores around the world. As Investigators ID Big Problems, U.S. Navy Blames “Fat Leonard”
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The National Transportation Safety Board (NSTB), charged with investigating major U.S. transportation accidents, just released their findings on a fatal 2017 collision between the U.S. Navy destroyer USS Fitzgerald ( DDG 62 ) and a cargo ship. As expected, the findings are not kind to the Navy. The NTSB assigns probable cause to the USS Fitzgerald’s crew and commander, citing poor Navy oversight of operations scheduling, crew training, and fatigue mitigation. In the report, the NTSB recommended the U.S. Navy review and revise a host of fleet-wide training requirements and change automatic identification system protocols. The NTSB report joins several other mishap investigations in offering the Navy a no-nonsense guide for the future, but rather than take the NTSB findings to heart, the Navy, while it is moving smartly to fix things, is also starting to look for a convenient non-Navy scapegoat. Chip Stocks Enter Intermediate Correction
The PHLX Semiconductor Index ( SOX ) bounced at strong support on Friday and added to gains in Monday's session, closing back above the 200-day exponential moving average (EMA). Even so, the index has now entered a long-term sell cycle that predicts relative weakness into the third quarter, raising the odds that the pullback from recent highs has just begun. As a result, sector shareholders may wish to lighten exposure on this bounce and consider options protection that is much cheaper this week than last. Chip stocks have led the upside since the SOX confirmed a historic breakout above multi-decade resistance in the fourth quarter of 2019. Sector returns since December 2018 have been legendary, with the index soaring 86% into the Feb. 14 all-time high at 1,983.
