A climate crisis is upon us, and it’s threatening India’s food security

May 24, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Representative image Building up behind the scenes for decades, the climate crisis is now clearly upon us. Emission of greenhouse gases continues to increase. As per the State of Global Climate Report (2021) , the last seven years have been the warmest on record. Extreme events such as excessive heatwaves, floods, cyclones, severe storms are increasing, leading to humanitarian crises propelled by population displacement and food insecurity. Several regions around the globe, especially in food-deficient countries in Africa and West Asia, are feeling the brunt of high food prices. As a result, the catastrophic effect of Russia’s war will be felt much after the actual war … [Read more...] about A climate crisis is upon us, and it’s threatening India’s food security

In the early '80s, Usha International’s former chairman late Siddharth Shriram, who was a golf enthusiast, was thinking of ways to bring fitness to city dwellers’ lifestyles. With Shriram’s goal in mind and with his direction and drive, the company flagged off one of the first marathons in the country. This was well before running and marathons drew people by the thousands from all walks of life in India. Not many may remember or are aware of this activity because Shriram never saw this as a marketing opportunity, says Komal Mehra, head, sports initiatives and associations, Usha International. “He wanted to create platforms for sports where there isn’t too much clutter. As a brand, we haven’t taken authority on any particular sport. We have always been enablers and have focused on creating partnerships to enhance sports … [Read more...] about Storyboard18 x Just Sports | How Usha International is nurturing sports culture in India

May 26, 2022 by thethaiger.com

Deputy PM, and Commerce Minister, Jurin Laksanawisit, yesterday moved to ease fears of food shortages in Thailand on the back of recent protectionism measures introduced by neighbouring countries, export bans, and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict threatening to worsen world food supplies. Jurin declared Thailand has an “abundance of food” produce and there will be no shortages despite the recent embargos. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the THAIFEX-Anuga Asia 2022 exhibition, the 66 year old government minister was bullish about the kingdom’s import-export future and says the nation can take advantage of the recent uncertainty and promote Thailand as a global hub of quality agricultural products and food, which will help to increase food-related shipments.
