Young Italian Jewelry Label Eera Plays By Its Own Rules, Mixing Neon Hues With Gold

May 15, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Starting with the simple snap hook habitually used for industrial applications, which they had originally discovered in a vintage market in Tokyo, friends Chiara Capitani and Romy Blanga, both 32-year-old Millennials, have transformed it into playful high jewelry in fluorescent hues and angular lines. The signature product of Eéra – the Milan-based duo’s brand launched in 2019 – the snap hook design may be found on rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets, and its innovative functional spring mechanism offers wearers endless styling opportunities to reflect their personal style by linking several snap hooks together, adding dangling chains or even combining them with jewels they already own. Having made career switches to jewelry, Capitani was formerly a fashion design consultant and Blanga worked in fashion PR and brand communications and management. Today, the pair’s bold esthetic, which quickly won them fans like Dua … [Read more...] about Young Italian Jewelry Label Eera Plays By Its Own Rules, Mixing Neon Hues With Gold

Watch: Robbie Williams reveals artwork at Sotheby’s gallery

May 16, 2022 by www.thestar.com.my

Robbie Williams and Ed Godrich have called each of the paintings from their debut exhibition after popular female names from the 1980s which have "inspired" their art. The Take That singer and the interior designer have spent the last five years creating 14 never-before-seen works deeply rooted in the rave and music scene from that era. The Black And White Paintings exhibition opened recently at Sotheby's New Bond Street galleries in central London and runs until May 25. Williams said they are now ready to share their "creative vision with the world." Talking about the inspiration behind the naming of the pieces, which include Janet, Donna and Mandy, Williams said: "We like the obscurity of these names, which were highly popular back in the day but are not so common today. "For us, they are the names that define the 1980s, an influential era which has inspired our art." Williams and Godrich, who bonded over a love of art and music, worked on several paintings at a time, … [Read more...] about Watch: Robbie Williams reveals artwork at Sotheby’s gallery

NATO deputy chief ‘confident’ of finding consensus on Finland, Sweden membership

May 15, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

Mircea Geoana - A + A BERLIN (May 15): North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) is confident that it can overcome objections by Turkey and quickly admit Finland and Sweden, its deputy chief said on Sunday, as the alliance prepares for a historic enlargement in the Nordic region prompted by Russia's war on Ukraine. Finland's President Sauli Niinisto confirmed on Sunday that his country would apply for membership and Sweden is expected to follow suit as public support for membership has grown amid security concerns. Foreign ministers from NATO's 30 member states are holding two days of talks over the weekend in Berlin that are focused on the two Nordic countries' membership bids. On Saturday, Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu unexpectedly raised objections, saying it was "unacceptable and outrageous" that the prospective new NATO members supported the outlawed Kurdish militant group PKK. It was not immediately clear whether discussions between … [Read more...] about NATO deputy chief ‘confident’ of finding consensus on Finland, Sweden membership

In an increasingly warming world, we can’t rely on trees as a climate change cure-all

May 15, 2022 by www.fastcompany.com

When people talk about ways to slow climate change, they often mention trees , and for good reason. Forests take up a large amount of the planet-warming carbon dioxide that people put into the atmosphere when they burn fossil fuels. But will trees keep up that pace as global temperatures rise? With companies increasingly investing in forests as offsets , saying it cancels out their continuing greenhouse gas emissions, that’s a multibillion-dollar question. advertisement advertisement The results of two studies published in the journals Science and Ecology Letters on May 12, 2022— one focused on growth , the other on death —raise new questions about how much the world can rely on forests to store increasing amounts of carbon in a warming future. Ecologist William Anderegg , who was involved in both studies, explains why. What does the new research tell us about trees and their ability to store carbon? The future of forests is on a … [Read more...] about In an increasingly warming world, we can’t rely on trees as a climate change cure-all

The next role Charo Santos-Concio wants to play

May 16, 2022 by entertainment.inquirer.net

Charo Santos-Concio “I’m now focused on trying to understand the human mind better,” said Charo Santos-Concio, who, after retiring from corporate work, opted to revive her acting career and, at the same time, take on the role of an educator. Inquirer Entertainment asked the former CEO of ABS-CBN about the interests she is taking on and is enjoying now that she is no longer busy with office work. To this, she replied: “I’m so much into the study of (Swiss psychiatrist) Carl Jung and psychology because this makes me understand the human psyche better; it deepens my insights about humanity, why people behave a certain way.” Jung, the founder of analytical psychology, is recognized as one of the most influential psychiatrists of all time. He suggested that personality, among others, plays a role in influencing human behavior and that this can be passed down from generation to generation. “The more stories I read, the deeper my insights become about humanity,” pointed out Charo, … [Read more...] about The next role Charo Santos-Concio wants to play

Kyiv residents call for iconic Soviet-era monuments to be renamed

May 15, 2022 by www.thestar.com.my

Kyiv recently renamed an iconic Soviet-era arch symbolising ties with Moscow to "Arch of the Freedom of the Ukrainian People", the mayor said. The symbolic move comes after the city demolished a statue of two workers - one Russian and the other Ukrainian - under the arch last month. "The city council today decided to 'de-communise' the name of the Arch of the Friendship of the Peoples. It will now be the Arch of the Freedom of the Ukrainian People," the capital's mayor Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram. He said officials had also "approved a list of more than 40 monuments and memorial plaques that will have to be removed from streets and buildings of the capital and transferred to a museum of totalitarianism." He said renaming them all would take time and involve "specialists", mainly historians, "so as not to take a hasty decision". The arch is an imposing 35m-high monument that towers over central Kyiv. It was erected in 1982. Many Kyiv residents have called for plaques … [Read more...] about Kyiv residents call for iconic Soviet-era monuments to be renamed

Some Traits That Make You a Good Entrepreneur Also Make You Susceptible to Addiction. These Strategies Can Help

December 18, 2018 by www.inc.com

In my line of business, which involves the sale of drug testing kits, I run into many a sad story about how addiction has ruined lives and caused an immense amount of grief among people who get hooked on any number of substances, especially opioids . And while you may think I am talking about people who were born into poverty and were down on their luck and looking for an escape (and I've heard those stories, too), I'm not. I'm talking about people who have lived privileged lives, earned college degrees, started successful practices and followed their entrepreneurial dream. David J. Linden, professor of neuroscience at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, says there is some evidence that the traits that make a good entrepreneur also make one susceptible to addiction. It can also be a rather lonely road entrepreneurs walk as they get their businesses off the ground and that, coupled with a constant fear of failure hanging over their heads, may also lead to … [Read more...] about Some Traits That Make You a Good Entrepreneur Also Make You Susceptible to Addiction.
