Insider Claims iPhone 15 Will Be ‘Aggressively’ Priced
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin 01/01 Update below. This post was originally published on December 29 iPhone 15 range leaks have revealed a number of potentially tantalizing upgrades coupled with jaw-dropping price increases . But now a new report claims Apple may slash prices. In a blog post, historically reliable industry insider yeux1122 reveals that Apple’s internal analysis of underwhelming iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus sales concluded that their decline is “far beyond the range predicted” — even allowing for ongoing component shortages caused by the pandemic. And as a result, Apple will aggressively price its successors. “The biggest problem is the price,” the insider reports. This makes sense. The $899 iPhone 14 Plus costs just $100 less than the iPhone 14 Pro, despite having an inferior display, chipset, camera and older design. With most buyers spreading purchase costs over a two-year carrier contract, the reason to go Plus … [Read more...] about Insider Claims iPhone 15 Will Be ‘Aggressively’ Priced
Apple Insider Reveals Surprise ‘iPhone 14 Plus’ Branding
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin 09/06 Update below. This post was originally published on September 3 On September 7, Apple will announce the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Or so we thought... In a surprisingly late leak, news has broken that Apple will not release an ‘iPhone 14 Max’. Instead, the company’s first 6.7-inch sub-$1000 smartphone will be called the ‘iPhone 14 Plus’. And this makes sense for many reasons. First, the leak — and it came in two parts. Part one landed via Twitter when a photo of a seemingly genuine next-gen iPhone case carried ‘iPhone 14 Plus’ branding. This prompted further investigation from 9to5Mac , which subsequently verified the name and instructions given to third-party case makers. “Sources familiar with the matter say Apple has chosen to name the next larger iPhone, the iPhone 14 Plus. In addition, at least since July, iPhone case makers have been told to not use the brand … [Read more...] about Apple Insider Reveals Surprise ‘iPhone 14 Plus’ Branding
With Revenue Down 5.5%, Tim Cook Presides Over Shrinking Apple
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Apple just blamed its weakest quarter in years on forces outside its control. But something else could be behind Apple’s 5% drop in sales for the most recent quarter. Apple is violating one of the most basic requirements for growth: customers will switch to the product that offers them the most value. Based on listening to my undergraduate students this week, many are feeling like fools for being locked in — via the iPhone — to Apple’s “ecosystem.” They would rather own a product that costs less and works better. Apple’s business is dependent on essentially jailing its customers within its ecosystem. The iPhone is a 15 year old product — that accounted for 56% of Apple’s revenues in the latest quarter. It competes in a declining smartphone industry — shipments were down 18% in the latest quarter, according to the Wall Street Journal . Apple’s growth problem is not really due to macroeconomics or supply chain … [Read more...] about With Revenue Down 5.5%, Tim Cook Presides Over Shrinking Apple
New Apple Leak Adds To iPhone 15 Price Fears
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Apple leaks claim that iPhone 15 Pro models are getting more expensive , and now a new leak breaking down iPhone 14 sales data may explain why. According to display analyst Ross Young, iPhone 14 sales are falling behind the iPhone 13. Apple confirmed this in its Q4 earnings call , citing supply chain constraints, but Young revealed something altogether more shocking: iPhone 14 Plus sales have collapsed. And this adds considerable weight to multiple leaks claiming Apple will shake up iPhone 15 pricing to fix this. Young, highly respected for his near-perfect track record, broke down display shipments for all iPhone 14 models in a graph (below). It shows Apple procuring a roughly equal number of displays for iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models ahead of their release in August. By October, iPhone 14 Plus orders had halved before dropping a further 80% in November, with orders … [Read more...] about New Apple Leak Adds To iPhone 15 Price Fears
Late Apple Leak Pours Cold Water On iPhone 14 Price Rises
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Multiple leaks claim Apple’s new iPhone 14 range is getting more expensive, and fans are braced for significant price increases on iPhone 14 Pro models . But what if they are wrong? In a wide-ranging new blog post, citing sources with final iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro production devices, leaker yeux1122 claims “prices may be in a completely different direction than expected.” Shocking as this may seem at this late stage, yeux1122 has a history of going against the tide and being right. While yeux1122 doesn’t expand on this, “a completely different direction than expected” indicates prices are going down, not up. And there is evidence to support this. Pricing for last year’s iPhone 13 started at $799, and the iPhone 14 will use the same chassis, rear cameras, display and chipset. Yes, global inflation is running high, but phone parts tend to drop like a stone once they are no longer cutting edge. This is why Apple … [Read more...] about Late Apple Leak Pours Cold Water On iPhone 14 Price Rises
New iPhone 15 Renders Show Surprising Shape Change
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Early iPhone 15 leaks claim Apple is planning to redesign its iconic smartphone range . And now we just got our first look at how the new ‘iPhone 15 Ultra’ flagship is expected to look. Extraordinarily detailed renders by Saad Ismail (for AppleInsider ) illustrate how reports of curved edges , dual front cameras and the transition to USB-C should look. And the result is an iPhone that is unmistakably modern yet undeniably retro. What really stands out here is the curved chassis, which has echoes of the 2013 iPhone 5C . While this design is unloved due to its cheap plastic back, it was arguably the most ergonomic iPhone Apple made since the iPhone 3GS . Furthermore, in terms of build quality, the iPhone 15 Ultra could hardly be further from the iPhone 5C, with Apple tipped to introduce a titanium chassis. Titanium costs $35-50 per kilogram , making it approximately 30x more expensive than stainless … [Read more...] about New iPhone 15 Renders Show Surprising Shape Change
Apple Had A Down Quarter. But 3 Things Were Up
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Apple’s quarterly earnings dropped 5% for the holiday quarter, as the company announced yesterday. That’s the biggest drop since 2016, even though the company still vacuumed up more than $96 billion in just three months and now has not just over $50 billion in cash and liquid investments but over $100 billion in long-term investments. But there were three things that were up, and two of them are completely related: total active devices, and services revenue. Total active devices crossed the two billion mark for the first time ever, Apple CEO Tim Cook said, and he connected that to the almost $21 billion in services revenue for the company’s first quarter results. That’s almost the only revenue number that was up. Every single geographical category — Americas, Europe, China and Taiwan, Japan, and Asia Pacific — were down. And almost every single product category — iPhone, Mac, and Wearables, — was down, with the … [Read more...] about Apple Had A Down Quarter. But 3 Things Were Up
Apple Ended 2022 Without A New Mac.
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Updated Jan 5th: article originally posted Jan 2nd. You might have missed a stunning moment in Apple’s history. For the first time in the 21st century, Apple did not release a new Mac in the holiday quarter. What happens now? Update: Tuesday January 3rd. One of the biggest missing machines is the Mac Pro. Not only is the Mac Pro missing from the portfolio, the ultimate Mac Pro may never appear. Just as the Intel-powered Mac Pro had a multitude of options in terms of chip specification, so the Mac Pro is expected to offer a number of Apple Silicon options. Much like the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models that sport both the M1 Pro and M1 Max as user configurations, Mac Pro choices could include the presumptively named M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, and an M2 Ultra building on the M1 Ultra found in the Mac Studio. There has also been talk of an M2 Extreme chipset that would lie at the heart of the Mac … [Read more...] about Apple Ended 2022 Without A New Mac.
