Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In case you never heard of the EchoPark chain of used-car stores — you probably will. Sonic Automotive Inc. is hiring advertising agency VaynerMedia to handle all aspects of nationwide marketing and advertising for Sonic’s EchoPark Automotive chain of used-car-only stores. That’s a significant milestone towards making EchoPark a truly national brand. Up to now, Sonic’s EchoPark locations were too few, and too scattered, to make coast-to-coast marketing and advertising worthwhile. “We always knew we wanted to create a national brand. We feel like now is the time,” said David Smith, Sonic chairman and CEO, in a phone interview. “Before, we had a lot more targeted advertising, and we couldn’t afford national advertising,” for the EchoPark brand. Gary Vaynerchuk, CEO of VaynerMedia, New York, said in a separate phone interview that having a single agency responsible for creative, strategic, analytical, … [Read more...] about Sonic Auto Hires VaynerMedia Ad Agency, To Take Its EchoPark Used Car Brand National

Moneycontrol Pro Weekender | Shaktikanta Das refuses to pivot
RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das. (File photo) Dear Reader , A day before the monetary policy announcement, the yield on the 10-year bond fell sharply on a media report that the MPC would signal a pause after Friday’s hike. Thankfully, the MPC held firm, refusing to oblige the bond markets. Not only did it increase the repo rate by 50 basis points, but also the MPC signalled more rate hikes in future by refusing to tone down its ‘withdrawal of accommodation’ stance. Much is being made of the fact that the policy rate is now at the pre-pandemic level. At 5.4 percent, the repo rate is now back to where it was in September 2019. But that is no big deal. GDP growth was a measly 3.7 percent in 2019-20 compared to RBI’s projection of 7.2 percent in 2022-23; retail inflation was a much lower 4.8 percent in 2019-20, compared to a projected 6.7 percent for 2022-23; the current account deficit was a comfortable 0.9 percent of GDP in 2019-20 as against projections of around 3 percent … [Read more...] about Moneycontrol Pro Weekender | Shaktikanta Das refuses to pivot

How this Family-Owned Retailer Capitalized on RushTok
Last August, sorority rush at the University of Alabama exploded on TikTok with Greek letters, glitter, and teenage girls explaining their #OOTD, or outfit of the day. The videos generated millions of views as people watched new college students share carefully curated ensembles for each round of the recruitment process--name-dropping well-known brands like Shein, Target, Kendra Scott, Kate Spade, and Steve Madden. But one unfamiliar name kept getting mentioned: the Pants Store. Founded as a wholesale warehouse for pants in 1950 in Leeds, Alabama, the Pants Store is a third-generation family business run by Michael Gee, whose grandfather started the company out of the trunk of his car. Not being a TikTok user, Gee had no idea his business had gone viral on the platform last year. It was his then-14-year-old daughter who told him. In just one week, online sales soared by more than 600 percent year-over-year. Orders from out of state--particularly from other college … [Read more...] about How this Family-Owned Retailer Capitalized on RushTok
Musk sells US$6.9b of Tesla shares after saying he was done
- A + A (Aug 10): Tesla chief executive officer Elon Musk sold US$6.9 billion (RM30.75 billion) of shares, according to regulatory filings on Tuesday (Aug 9), just months after saying he didn’t plan to sell any more stock in the pioneering electric-car maker. The billionaire offloaded about 7.92 million shares last Friday, according to the new filings. The sale comes just four months after the world’s richest person said he had no further plans to sell Tesla shares, after disposing of US$8.5 billion of stock in the wake of his now-pulled deal to buy Twitter Inc. Musk, 51, has now sold around US$32 billion worth of stock in Tesla over the past 10 months. The disposals started in November after Musk, a prolific Twitter user, polled users of the platform on whether he should trim his stake. The purpose of the latest sale wasn’t immediately clear. Tesla shares have risen about 35% from recent lows reached in May, though they are still down about 20% this year. … [Read more...] about Musk sells US$6.9b of Tesla shares after saying he was done

Better Solutions For Rx Problems
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The reconciliation bill Democrats in Congress are about to pass will impose price controls on prescription drugs for Medicare beneficiaries (although they are couched in terms of price negotiation). Critics note that the measure would lead to fewer new drugs , fewer cures, more avoidable deaths, and higher drug prices for the private sector. University of Chicago economist Tom Philipson estimates that because of the price controls there will be 135 fewer new drugs in the next two decades – causing a loss of 331.5 million life-years in the U.S. That is a reduction in life spans about 31 times as large as from Covid-19 to date! Still, public opinion polls show high approval for the proposal. Why is that? In all likelihood it’s because voters realize there are problems that need solving. Here are some better solutions. Give Medicare enrollees access to rational insurance. In a proper insurance … [Read more...] about Better Solutions For Rx Problems
Biden Climate Bill Will Lead To Americans Spending More On Healthcare, Not Less, Report Finds
Democrats’ signature drug pricing legislation would actually increase Americans’ healthcare costs, according to a new report from the University of Chicago. Professor Tomas J. Philipson of the university’s Becker Friedman Institute for Economics found that total healthcare spending would increase by more than $50 billion over a period of 20 years if Democrats’ drug pricing proposals become reality. This is because the overwhelming majority of healthcare costs are related to labor, not drug prices, and because of innovation driving costs down in the long term, Philipson wrote . Paragon Advisor @TomasPhilipson was in @Newsweek to explain that the #Senate reconciliation bill “would lead to a massive loss of life, due to foregone medical innovation, and a reduction in the quality of care…” More here: https://t.co/QJRDEEdk4N pic.twitter.com/PcqOm0h6kb — Paragon Health Institute (@Paragon_Inst) August 3, 2022 “The primary source of spending in health care is on … [Read more...] about Biden Climate Bill Will Lead To Americans Spending More On Healthcare, Not Less, Report Finds
The Kentucky Derby: Great Fun And A Must-Do For Your Bucket List
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Famous Churchill Downs racetrack - you have to see it in person to appreciate it. I’ll Have Another, as in I’ll Have Another Kentucky Derby, hopefully as soon as next year. I just returned from Louisville, Churchill Downs, and “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports,” and I can sum my experience up in one word: Awesome. I’ve been to a lot of major sporting events, including the Super Bowl, and the argument could be made that the Kentucky Derby is the best of all, mainly because it is about so much more than the race itself. Go to the World Series or NBA Finals and you get 3 hours of entertainment. Much of the fun surrounding the Super Bowl is in the form of invitation-only parties and VIP events, not the game. But the Kentucky Derby is the complete package, morning to night fun - for two full days - at a minimum. You don’t have to know anything about horse racing to love the Derby, with all its pomp and … [Read more...] about The Kentucky Derby: Great Fun And A Must-Do For Your Bucket List
