Key Facts On March 29, 2017, Ivanka Trump, the eldest daughter of President Trump, became an official government employee , joining her husband, Jared Kushner, as an adviser to her father. The day before that appointment , Ivanka applied for 17 new trademarks with the Chinese government. Lawsuit Alleges Trump Defrauded ‘Students’ In Seminars Meant To Teach Investing Wisdom
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin A lawsuit filed Saturday by New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman alleges that Donald Trump defrauded more than 5,000 people of $40 million, handed over for what was supposed to be the opportunity to learn Trump’s real estate investment magic at his for-profit training program, Trump University. The suit also names The Trump Entrepreneur Institute—previously known as Trump University LLC—and Michael Sexton, former president of the institution. Beginning in 2005, Trump University offered a program that began with a free introductory 90-minute presentation promising to teach the secrets that helped build his real estate empire. This was, according to the suit, no more than a lengthy promotion for a three-day, $1,500 seminar. The three-day program, in turn, was used to plug “elite” courses that cost anywhere from $10,000 to $35,000. Schneiderman takes particular aim at Trump U.’s ads, which featured the … [Read more...] about Lawsuit Alleges Trump Defrauded ‘Students’ In Seminars Meant To Teach Investing Wisdom
Liberals Can’t Resist Laughing At Trump Tweets
The Daily Caller’s Noah Pincus tested liberals on how much they miss former President Donald Trump’s presence on Twitter by reading some of his funniest tweets. The respondents interviewed on the streets of New York City said Trump should not return to Twitter even after Elon Musk said the former president would be allowed back on the platform. Some respondents said they might even delete their account if Trump returns. Pincus then read old tweets by Trump that made even those opposing his return to Twitter laugh. “Barney Frank looked disgusting—nipples protruding—in his blue shirt before Congress,” one tweet said. “Very very disrespectful.” “Why would Kim Jung Un insult me by calling me old when I would never call him short and fat?” another tweet said. “Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend. I hope someday that will happen.” “The Coca Cola company is not happy with me—that’s okay, I’ll still keep drinking that garbage,” a 2012 tweet read. Republican Lawmakers Break With Trump Over Claims Of Widespread Fraud
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Several Republican members of Congress broke publicly with President Donald Trump on Thursday after he baselessly claimed at a White House briefing that former Vice President Joe Biden’s path to victory has been paved with “illegal votes.” Key Facts “If you count the legal vote, I easily win,” Trump claimed, stating without evidence that “illegal votes” have been counted and, as a result, “they can try to steal the election from us.” Trump touted his campaign’s efforts to block mail-in votes from being counted in Nevada , where Biden leads, and Georgia and Pennsylvania , where Biden is rapidly closing the gap with Trump and may be on track to overtake him, thus securing victory in the Electoral College. Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah.), one of Trump’s most outspoken Republican critics in Congress, said in a statement that “counting every vote is at the heart of democracy” and that any … [Read more...] about Republican Lawmakers Break With Trump Over Claims Of Widespread Fraud
Trump Calls On Biden Not To Claim Presidency Days After Doing It Himself
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Friday in an effort to pre-empt a primetime address by Joe Biden scheduled for 8 p.m., urging his Democratic opponent not to claim the presidency like he did just days earlier – which the Biden campaign said he won’t do if the race is not called before he speaks. Key Facts “Joe Biden should not wrongfully claim the office of the President,” Trump tweeted Friday evening, hours before Biden was set to speak, asserting “Legal proceedings are just now beginning!” Trump said that he “could make that claim also,” far from a hypothetical given that he did claim that he had won Wednesday morning based on his leads at the time in states like Wisconsin and Michigan, both of which have since been called for Biden. Biden, for his part, has been far more cautious: on Wednesday he spoke out against Trump for claiming victory and called for all votes to be counted, … [Read more...] about Trump Calls On Biden Not To Claim Presidency Days After Doing It Himself
Why you need to take right-wing comedy seriously
It was one of the more spectacular TV flops of the 21st century. Late in the second term of President George W. Bush, in 2007, Fox News decided that it had the right-wing alternative to Comedy Central’s popular and influential The Daily Show with Jon Stewart . The 1/2 Hour News Hour would puncture liberal pieties and media bias in the fashion that Stewart and his cast of fake correspondents fired barbs at conservatives and right-wing media like Fox News. The show tanked—hard—more or less after the pilot aired in February 2007. And with its failure, modern progressives (and future leftists) had all the evidence they needed: Conservatives weren’t funny. advertisement advertisement For the last 15 years, that take—frequently informed by one failed late-night show—has stuck among anyone who isn’t a conservative. But all the while, right wingers were making comedy—and succeeding. Some of it flew under the radar in subterranean clubs and YouTube channels, … [Read more...] about Why you need to take right-wing comedy seriously
Politics and peril for Asian women
The political landscape in Asia has been very dynamic lately, but it is a disappointment to me personally that events have not been kind to women. Filipinos on Monday picked Ferdinand Marcos Jr, the son of the late dictator, as their next president. Known as "Bongbong" in the Philippines, the 64-year-old secured around 60% of the vote, the strongest mandate since his father's rule. He will be inaugurated in June together with his vice-presidential running mate, Sara Duterte-Carpio, daughter of outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte. Mr Marcos's nearest challenger in the May 9 election was Vice President Leni Robredo, a human rights lawyer and economist. According to the anti-disinformation site tsek.ph, Ms Robredo was a major target of false and negative narratives online. Her outspokenness against Mr Duterte's brutal war on drugs attracted much criticism -- even accusations that she supports communist rebels. The online disinformation about Mr Marcos side, by contrast, was mostly … [Read more...] about Politics and peril for Asian women
Reports: FBI Probing If N.Y. Post’s Hunter Biden Email Dump Was Part Of Foreign Influence Campaign
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline Federal investigators are looking into whether a set of unverified emails purported to be to and from Joe Biden’s son Hunter that were published in a New York Post article this week were part of a foreign disinformation campaign, the Associated Press and NBC News reported. Key Facts The Post published the emails Wednesday in a story that claimed they were evidence of influence-peddling by the Bidens in Ukraine; critics raised questions about the paper’s claim that the story was based on files discovered by a Delaware computer repairman, who later sent them to President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is now examining whether the files were actually part of a foreign intelligence operation, the AP and NBC reported, citing unnamed sources. The Post ’s story stated that a laptop containing the emails was seized by the FBI, though the paper … [Read more...] about Reports: FBI Probing If N.Y. It Only Took About 180 Minutes For Democrats To Try To Capitalize On The Buffalo Shooting
Shortly over three hours after police were alerted to a mass shooting in Buffalo, New York, on Saturday, Democratic politicians took to Twitter to call for gun control legislation. “ Two mass shootings in 24 hours, in Milwaukee and Buffalo — the latter killing ten people. I’m heartbroken. And I’m angry. Angry that the GOP continues to block even the most basic gun safety measures. We can stop this. We can save lives. Republicans just refuse to. Cowards. ” said Democratic Representative Adam Schiff of California in a Twitter post.
