Image: AFP/Christophe Simon A moving drama starring Oscar winners Anthony Hopkins and Anne Hathaway premiered to cheers at Cannes, charting what director James Gray on Friday called the moment when America lost its way. “Armageddon Time,” which also features Jeremy Strong from TV’s “Succession,” is a semi-autobiographical story set in the New York borough of Queens in 1980, just as the Trump family and Ronald Reagan were on the rise. Gray said 1980, with Reagan’s election, the looming threat of nuclear war with the Soviet Union, his hero Muhammad Ali’s “humiliating” loss to Larry Holmes and the murder of John Lennon in Manhattan gave the film its title. “I also believe that was the beginning of a Market-is-God idea … [Read more...] about ‘Armageddon Time’: All-star Cannes contender tracks dawn of Trump’s America

As with so many things related to the British royals, the conversation has no official confirmation but that hasn’t stopped a new wave of speculation ranging from ‘it’s time to put an end to the useless monarchy’ to ‘it’s a purge and Charles is behind it’ to ‘it’s time for the queen to retire and finally give Prince Charles his chance.’ “Future historians may conclude that Prince Andrew’s defining achievement was to give the nation a new verb,” concluded Jamie Doward in The Guardian , referring to the world “de-royaled,” coined by historian Robert Lacey, who advises the Netflix series The … [Read more...] about British Monarchy In Transition: Is it Time For ‘King Charles’?

Abortion Pills Stand to Become the Next Battleground in a Post-Roe America

May 5, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Wade, the legal and culture wars over abortion that have consumed the United States for decades would increasingly be fought on a new front: abortion pills. Medication abortion — a two-drug combination that can be taken at home or in any location and is authorized for use in the first 10 weeks of pregnancy — has become more and more prevalent and now accounts for more than half of recent abortions in the United States. If the federal guarantee of abortion rights disappears, medication abortion would likely become an even more sought-after method for terminating a pregnancy — and the focus of battles between states that ban abortion and those that continue to allow it. “Given that most abortions are early and medication abortion is harder to trace and already kind of becoming the majority or preferred method, it’s going to be a big deal,” said Mary Ziegler, a visiting law professor at Harvard. “It’s going to generate a lot of … [Read more...] about Abortion Pills Stand to Become the Next Battleground in a Post-Roe America
