By Hunter Atkins, Houston Chronicle Published 8:04 pm CST, Monday, January 28, 2019 On Monday, news that Anthony Davis requested the New Orleans Pelicans to trade him swept the NBA into a twister of punditry and fan fodder. The Pelicans' injury report listed Davis as unavailable to play against the Rockets on Tuesday at Toyota Center because of an ongoing finger injury. New Orleans has lost the last three games, sinking to 22-28, without the injured three-time All-NBA center, but the Pelicans now have to ignore the albatross that is Davis' trade drama. Although the distraction would seem like an advantage for an opponent, the Rockets decline to flesh out the wounds of another team. "It's definitely tough on that whole franchise over there," guard Eric Gordon said Monday. "He's their best player. It's tough on him and the whole team. But for us it's no different." Chris Paul acted coy. He said he had not heard about the situation with Davis. Paul suggested that the … [Read more...] about Anthony Davis set to miss game against Rockets
Vince Ellis Detroit Free Press Published 6:17 PM EST Jan 28, 2019 Blake Griffin is pro-player. When asked about reports of New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis requesting a trade, Griffin was clear: NBA players ultimately must consider their best interests. “The player has to do what's best for him, and not worry about the backlash,” the Detroit Pistons star said Monday. “It's going to happen, and you can't really control it. Teams are able to do whatever they want, and they don't get backlash unless they don't do it the right way.” If you are a fan of Griffin, don’t panic. Later in the media scrum following Monday’s practice, Griffin called the Pistons organization “home.” By all accounts, Griffin, who is having one of the best seasons of his career, is committed to seeing it through with the Pistons and wants to make it work with the anniversary of the trade that brought him here approaching this week. But will that … [Read more...] about Could Pistons’ Blake Griffin request trade like Anthony Davis?
Anthony Davis has requested a trade from the New Orleans Pelicans. The timing is interesting, as Davis isn’t a free agent until 2020, and the request comes 10 days before the trade deadline. Teams may be willing up to give even more for Davis since they would be guaranteed almost 1.5 seasons, as opposed to just one. The team that can make the Pelicans the best offer, the Boston Celtics, cannot make an offer for Davis until this summer, due to contract complications. It puts the Pelicans in an interesting situation: trade Davis before the deadline and hope teams make their best offers or wait out the season until the Celtics make an offer and hope it forces teams to top it. The moment the NBA has been gearing up for years has arrived:Anthony Davis has said he won’t re-sign long-term with the New Orleans Pelicans and would like to be traded. There are very few players whose availability can shift the league's focus all by themselves. One of them may just be entering the market, after Pelicans forward/center Anthony Davis reportedly requested a trade over the weekend. That's the latest from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, and perhaps we all should have seen this coming. Once Davis signed with Rich Paul, LeBron James' childhood pal/agent/consolidator of power, the writing was on the wall for a Davis departure. All fingers will point to Los Angeles on the assumption that the Lakers will attempt to pair James and Davis and begin the next era of Lakers prominence. That assumption is well-founded. The timing of Davis' trade request has a subtext to it because of rules within the NBA's collective bargaining agreement, and this may have the side effect of keeping Davis away from the Boston Celtics, who have long been rumored to be chasing Davis on the trade market. The NBA's "Rose Rule" extension was put in place to allow teams to pay … [Read more...] about NBA Trade Rumors: How does Anthony Davis trade request impact the Sixers?
