Successful entrepreneurs who make a difference are, in effect, professional storytellers, says Richard Branson . The ability to craft a compelling story behind a product, service, company, or cause has long been one of Branson's great passions. Entrepreneurs who want to excite people and engage hearts and minds should follow Branson's advice--use stories to transfer your ideas to another person. "Storytelling is a great way to get your views across, highlight how you and your company are different than your competitors, and also to work out new ideas," Branson says . Branson doesn't just talk about the power of story to build brands. He uses an ancient, clever practice to build storytelling skills among his Virgin teams and to elicit the best ideas. On Necker, Branson's private island, he likes to end the day swapping stories around an elaborate fire pit. "Storytelling is as old as the campfire, and as young as a tweet," Branson wrote in 2015 about his campfire … [Read more...] about Richard Branson Taps Into a 400,000-Year-Old Practice to Unleash His Best Ideas. Recently discovered journals written by the secretary for the Royal Society nearly 300 years ago document a slow-moving unidentified flying object over London. Cromwell Mortimer, a British physician and the second secretary of the Royal Society, tracked what appeared to be a slow-moving UFO for 30 seconds on Dec. 16, 1742, as it soared over central London shortly before 9 p.m., according to the Daily Express. “I saw a light arise from behind the trees and houses in the south by west point,” Mortimer described, according to the outlet. “When it had risen to the height of about 20 degrees, it took a motion nearly parallel to the horizon and went over the houses.” London UFO mystery: 279-year-old file found on ‘first of its kind’ sight over Westminster https://t.co/NsHP8snaka pic.twitter.com/n8CM6sczqx — Daily Express (@Daily_Express) August 11, 2022 He tracked the object as it flew over what he believed to be the Bloomsbury district of London, over Queen’s Square, … [Read more...] about Researchers Discover 279-Year-Old UFO Mystery Over London, England

A New Year and a New Leader, but Germany’s Focus Remains on COVID
Germany Chancellor Olaf Scholz There was a new face delivering the chancellor’s New Year’s Eve address, but for COVID-19-weary Germans, the focus was all too familiar. Under normal circumstances, Chancellor Olaf Scholz — the first person in nearly two decades other than Angela Merkel to deliver the address — would have used the occasion Friday to lay out his vision and wish people a happy new year. But these are not normal circumstances, so while he was able to touch on a variety of issues like climate change, the economy and European security, the spotlight was on the coronavirus and the country’s response to it. In writing the speech, Scholz and his staff appeared keenly aware that their best hope of pushing through their agenda was to inspire a sense of national cohesion in a country where the differences have often been on vivid display. “What I perceive everywhere is a huge solidarity, an overwhelming willingness to help and a new sense of pulling together and … [Read more...] about A New Year and a New Leader, but Germany’s Focus Remains on COVID

‘Apex Legends’ Hits All-Time Playercount Record 14 Seasons And 3 Years In
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin I think you could easily classify Apex Legends as one of the biggest success stories of this generation, appearing out of thin air one week in 2019, and in the three years since, has risen to become one of the most influential shooters on the market. But unlike the rivals it’s displaced like Overwatch, Apex Legends has continued to grow and grow and has now set new playercount records with the launch of season 14, more than three years after release. On Steam , Apex Legends broke its old record and amassed 510,286 concurrent players for the launch of season 14, which brought the release of new sniper hero Vantage. I believe the old high score was 411,000 players back before season 13 launched. This record also comes in the wake of a movement where some players said they were planning to boycott Apex Legends’ new season, but clearly, like most promises of boycotts, that did not pan out. Generally speaking, the Apex … [Read more...] about ‘Apex Legends’ Hits All-Time Playercount Record 14 Seasons And 3 Years In

IRS To Add 87,000 New Agents, More Crypto Tax Enforcement
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin It’s no secret that the IRS is after crypto tax dollars and after fans of crypto who don’t report or who don’t do it correctly. The Inflation Reduction Act , which passed the Senate on Sunday and the House is expected to take up Friday, raises taxes and will give the IRS billions to go into what the Wall Street Journal called “beast mode .” In all, the bill will dole out about $80 billion to the IRS for increased enforcement, operational improvements, customer service, and systems modernization. That money is more than six times the current annual IRS budget of $12.6 billion. The bill says a whopping $45.6 billion will be for enforcement, which is the main directive from Democrats to the IRS. Get bigger, tougher and faster at collecting. Reports suggest that the IRS will hire 87,000 new agents, and with more than $45 billion being shoveled into enforcement, change is coming.
