WTF – YouTube Has Modified Profanity Rules

January 17, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin After pushback from the creator community, YouTube is backing off profanity guidelines which saw some older videos demonetized out of the blue. The advertiser-friendly content guidelines, announced in November, limited ads or even completely demonetized a creator's video if there was profanity within the first 15 seconds. The crackdown on foul language was part of a set of rules meant to ensure that videos on the platform were "suitable for advertisers." As the rules stood, a video wouldn't be eligible to run ads if there was swearing in the first 15 seconds; while if the creator swears throughout "the majority of the video," or curse words could be heard within the first seven seconds, the video could be demonetized entirely. No doubt some creators may have responded to the rules by asking WTF? However, after pushback from the creator community – which saw some older videos demonetized out of the blue – YouTube is … [Read more...] about WTF – YouTube Has Modified Profanity Rules

YouTube’s Voice of Speedrunning Talks Music, GDQ, And New ‘Running With Speed’ Documentary

January 24, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin As a video game speedrunning historian, Summoning Salt has amassed over 1.5 million subscribers on YouTube not by simply documenting speedrun world records, but by transforming the characters, competition, and strategy innovations behind the world records into brilliantly engaging stories. Each video in his World Record Progression series details how speedrunners chipped away at world record times to complete video games as fast as possible, and his commitment to storytelling has built him an audience of millions that extends well beyond speedrunners themselves. As Summoning Salt explained to me in a recent interview, the broad appeal of speedrunning is part amazement and part nostalgia for the games: “Even if you’re not interested in speedrunning — you can appreciate a good story about a world record battle or how people lowered a record... And also just the idea of a game that you’re familiar with that you’ve played … [Read more...] about YouTube’s Voice of Speedrunning Talks Music, GDQ, And New ‘Running With Speed’ Documentary

January 25, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Two billion. That’s how many views health-related YouTube videos received in 2021. To that end, YouTube, the second-most visited website on earth, has partnered with the National Health Service to combat health misinformation. Part of the partnership and YouTube’s efforts is to create a “Health Shelf” that users can access for health-related content. On a freezing cold Wednesday in January 2023, the YouTube Health team invited the U.K.’s leading healthcare influencers and creators to Google’s London HQ for a day of knowledge sharing and collaboration. The theme mirrored the mission of YouTube Health: “making high quality health information available to all,” which is certainly pertinent in an age of rampant ‘fake news’ that could risk dangerously inaccurate online health content. Dr Vishaal Virani, YouTube’s head of U.K. health, led a day of panel discussions, talks and networking sessions and I took a number of key … [Read more...] about YouTube Health Showcases U.K. Strategy: 5 Things We Learned
