The Ukrainian Navy Is Ready To Rescue People Again As Ex-British Helicopters Arrive

January 21, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Just two months after the United Kingdom announced it would donate to Ukraine three ex-Royal Navy Westland Sea King helicopters, the first of the classic rotorcraft has appeared in Ukraine. And that means the Ukrainian navy has begun to rebuild its search-and-rescue capability, months after Russian forces destroyed it. Ukrainian defense minister Oleksii Reznikov on Saturday posted a video depicting a Sea King in Ukrainian colors conducting winch training “near the Black Sea.” The 1980s-vintage Sea King HU.5—which originally was an anti-submarine helicopter before ending its long service as a utility ‘copter stripped of its sub-hunting gear—flies low over a field and hovers as a crew member lowers, then raises, a passenger on the winch. The winch training underscores the likely primary role of the Sea King in Ukrainian service. While there are lots of things the Ukrainian navy could do with its ex-British … [Read more...] about The Ukrainian Navy Is Ready To Rescue People Again As Ex-British Helicopters Arrive

R ussian billionaires have been in the spotlight since Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine on February 24. Like It Or Not, New Nuclear Reactors Are Coming To The U.S. Waterfront

January 17, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Over the next decade, a combination of strategic, economic, and environmental concerns will bring modern, fourth-generation nuclear reactors to the waterfront. American ports and ship operators that begin preparing the U.S. waterfront for nuclear power today—building a trained nuclear-ready workforce and establishing operational protocols for nuclear vessels and support infrastructure—will enjoy enormous competitive advantages. Today, new modular nuclear reactor designs are evolving beyond the grand-scale, thousand-megawatt “modular” pressurized or boiling water reactors used in America’s current-day nuclear power plants, offering smaller, scalable options for size and safety. The difference is stark—in Georgia, the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant is preparing to commission two big new reactors and become a massive four-reactor, 5000-megawatt regional generating center, while modular reactor startup NuScale Power offers a … [Read more...] about Like It Or Not, New Nuclear Reactors Are Coming To The U.S. Waterfront

January 18, 2023 by www.moneycontrol.com

Shafali Verma, 18, plays for India Women as well as the India Women U-19 cricket team. (Image source: Twitter/@TheShafaliVerma) Wonder how different batting at the senior level versus the Under-19 stage is in international cricket? Few are better-positioned right now than India U-19 captain Shafali Verma to throw light on this. “Of course, there is a lot of difference. The bowling is coming a little slow in Under-19 … senior have good pace and good mindset. Here also they all are learning [that],” Verma had said last week in an interview with the International Cricket Council (ICC) ahead of the ongoing inaugural Under-19 women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa . Capped 74 times for India Women, Verma, 18, is the most experienced player at the U-19 World Cup. Her two senior World Cup appearances – one in each limited-overs format – is more than anyone in the competition. America’s New Aircraft Carrier Struggled To Certify Pilots Before 2022 Deployment

January 25, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin If the fiscal year 2022 weapons system report from the Director of Operational Test and Evaluation (DOT&E) is any guide, America’s $13.3 billion aircraft carrier, the 5.7-year-old USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), struggled to complete carrier qualifications before a 2022 shakedown deployment. The Pentagon report is a grim, fact-filled contrast to the Navy’s relentless “cheer-and-clap louder” brand of Ford Class boosterism. According to DOT&E, “the reliability of CVN 78 catapults, arresting gear, and jet blast deflectors continues to have an adverse effect on sortie generation and flight operations efficiency.” The original Ford class business case was built around a 30% higher sortie generation rate than the legacy Nimitz class aircraft carriers. Right now, the carrier itself is still recovering from a much-ballyhooed 53-day mini-deployment late last year. According to carrier-tracking websites, USS Ford … [Read more...] about America’s New Aircraft Carrier Struggled To Certify Pilots Before 2022 Deployment

KJP Claims That Biden ‘Restored Independence’ At The DOJ

January 13, 2023 by dailycaller.com

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre claimed that Biden has “restored independence” at the Department of Justice during a press conference Friday. “Does this episode undercut that argument that he would restore confidence? Because here we have in the headlines that he is now under investigation,” a reporter asked. “He’s restored independence in the Department of Justice. That’s what we’re doing here,” Jean-Pierre responded. “When we’re saying we’re gonna refer you to the Department of Justice that is restoring independence as it relates to issues like this. And that is important to the president.” (RELATED: ‘She Has Not Answered A Single Question’: CBS News Anchors Call Out KJP Over Biden Docs) “And it’s been consistent.
