The Truth Behind The No-Shampoo Movement And How To Make The Shift
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Also referred to on social media as the “no-poo movement,” the shift from traditional shampoo formulations to natural ingredients typically found in the pantry, has slowly reshaped how we care for our crowning glory. For years, we were advised against washing our hair daily. Detergents and other harsh cleansing agents found in shampoo strip strands of its natural oils. Regular washing of hair has also been identified as the culprit behind split ends, dry scalp, and frizzing. Early adopters of the movement were enlightened by the great shampoo sham as early as in 2010. They picked up on medical and dermatological literature that revealed there were zero benefits to daily shampooing, except for specific conditions like scalp psoriasis or lice. Immediately, they began searching for gentler, natural ingredients as a means for refreshing strands. Some even dug into the pantry to create homemade cleansing alternatives made of soda … [Read more...] about The Truth Behind The No-Shampoo Movement And How To Make The Shift
Double standards for women’s professional appearance persist (even working remotely)
Despite a widespread return to the office, 52% of women prefer to work from home, with higher percentages for women of color. The unifying reason is that working from home reduces the time, money, and stress women spend needing to look and perform the narrow image of a “professional” defined by our society. This is in addition to other benefits of working from home, such as offering more flexibility for childcare. Working from home has provided a brief respite for women as the screen may be turned off, or at minimum, provides a barrier and a more distant physical representation of the individual. Leaders should reexamine the historical double standards that women have faced and still face, regarding their appearance and what they wear. Recognizing and acknowledging the stubborn persistence of this problem is the only way we can start to change it. Productivity vs. “professionalism” Even powerful women are not spared these double standards, sartorial or otherwise, as … [Read more...] about Double standards for women’s professional appearance persist (even working remotely)

KJP Claims That Biden ‘Restored Independence’ At The DOJ
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre claimed that Biden has “restored independence” at the Department of Justice during a press conference Friday. “Does this episode undercut that argument that he would restore confidence? Because here we have in the headlines that he is now under investigation,” a reporter asked. “He’s restored independence in the Department of Justice. That’s what we’re doing here,” Jean-Pierre responded. “When we’re saying we’re gonna refer you to the Department of Justice that is restoring independence as it relates to issues like this. And that is important to the president.” (RELATED: ‘She Has Not Answered A Single Question’: CBS News Anchors Call Out KJP Over Biden Docs) “And it’s been consistent. 1700s Villa Offers A Peaceful Refuge Near The Medieval Town Of Todi, Italy
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin A peaceful life in the countryside. An orchard of 72 olive-producing trees. Construction that dates to 1700. These are among the charms of a stone villa being offered for sale in the hills near Todi in the Umbria region of central Italy. Yet the property is close to shopping and services. The center of the medieval hilltop town of Todi is about 7 kilometers or slightly more than 4 miles away, according to Cinzia Romanelli, chief executive and cofounder of Building Heritage. “Todi is a very quiet and secluded city because it holds no more than 15,000 to 20,000 people,” Romanelli says. “The administrative facilities are all conveniently located in the heart of the town while the ancillary services remain outside the town walls.” While it may be quiet, there’s still nightlife. “Most of Todi's nightclubs are located in the historic center or just outside,” she says, “where you will find pubs, lounges and wine bars.” … [Read more...] about 1700s Villa Offers A Peaceful Refuge Near The Medieval Town Of Todi, Italy
NCAT Instructor’s Dress Code Raises Questions About ‘Professional’ Attire
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin A dress code for a computer programming course at an HBCU in North Carolina got more attention than students’ clothing when it recently circulated on Twitter. While the dress code has been taken off the syllabus, the incident shows that once you leave college and enter the workforce, the definition of professional attire differs depending on who you ask and often who you are. The professor included bonnets, durags, hoodies, “booty shorts,” “coochie cutter shorts” and “twerk shorts” on his banned list. “If you wear it to bed or the club, don’t wear it to class,” he wrote. For college students, the definition of workwear is murky, considering the history of professionalism equating to white favoritism . The syllabus left me, a middle-aged BIPOC woman … [Read more...] about NCAT Instructor’s Dress Code Raises Questions About ‘Professional’ Attire
