Republican New York Rep. Nicole Malliotakis sparred with CNN anchor Poppy Harlow on Friday over removing Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee. The House of Representatives voted to remove Omar from the committee Thursday at the behest of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who also removed Democratic California Reps. Eric Swalwell and Adam Schiff from the House Intelligence Committee. Omar faced scrutiny in 2019 for suggesting that American Jews advocate for “allegiance to a foreign country” and that Israel purchased American support. Malliotakis, who also served on the Foreign Affair committee, said Omar held “very dangerous views” surrounding Israel, for blaming the U.S. for the catastrophe in Venezuela and for allegedly having “diminished” 9/11 and thus should not serve on that committee. “Congresswoman, to the first point you made in your objections of her, she did respond saying that ‘I was in no way equating terrorist organizations … [Read more...] about Rep. Kentucky Bourbon Trail 2.0: Louisville Positions Itself At The Center Of American Spirits
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Copper Pot Stills At Woodford Reserve Brad Japhe In 1996, Woodford Reserve opened a visitor's center as part of its bourbon distillery. The low-key operation amidst the horse farms of Versailles, Kentucky, offered souvenirs, specialty bottles, and daily tours of the whiskey-making process. While that might not seem like anything special now, back then it was nothing short of revolutionary; booze-tourism simply didn't exist at the time. "The success of that decision led other distilleries to follow our lead," says Chris Poynter, brand spokesman. "T oday the Kentucky Bourbon Trail gets more than 1 million visitors annually, and growing. This combining of tourism and bourbon -- which we call bourbonism -- has been great for our distillery and the state of Kentucky.” While most of these outsized operations exist along the rural edges of Bluegrass Country, a new wave of liquid is swelling up inside the big … [Read more...] about Kentucky Bourbon Trail 2.0: Louisville Positions Itself At The Center Of American Spirits
Biden Officials Just Can’t Keep Their Hands Off Your Gas Stoves
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Asked recently by an Arizona television news anchor to comment on the continuing controversy surrounding the Biden administration efforts to restrict or ban the use of gas stoves in the home, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said , “That is so ridiculous, that story. Because, it sounds like government’s coming in to take your stuff. That is so not true. That is just not true.” In almost her next breath, though, Granholm went on to perpetuate the supposed science connecting the use of gas stoves to childhood asthma, a claim that simply has not been established. That was on January 23. Just nine days later, on February 1, Granholm’s Department of Energy beat the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) to the regulatory punch, proposing a new regulation governing home energy consumption, which seeks to diminish the use of, you guessed it, gas stoves in the home. Thus we see the Biden administration just cannot … [Read more...] about Biden Officials Just Can’t Keep Their Hands Off Your Gas Stoves

“Software” Climate VCs And “Hardtech” Climate VCs Are Both Wrong
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Over the course of the past few months it’s becoming clear to me that venture capitalists investing into climate technologies are now decidedly split into two major camps: Those investing into hardware, or as they often will term it, “deep tech” innovations, and those investing into software. This is an interesting split, and you can see why each camp is doing what they’re doing. The “software” investors have a logical mandate for focusing in on this innovation area: It’s what venture capital has traditionally succeeded at. Venture capital is very expensive capital — I like to joke that it’s the most expensive form of available capital that won’t get your kneecaps broken. So if it’s so costly, it should be deployed only where the business model can absorb such expensive capital and scale quickly enough to achieve big outcomes. In other words, capital efficiency. Invest a little bit, and hopefully get a big outcome. … [Read more...] about “Software” Climate VCs And “Hardtech” Climate VCs Are Both Wrong

Nearly 18 years on from their first qualification for a World Cup final, an Indian women’s team is in sight of the world champions’ crown again. Adani Enterprises’ Failed Share Offering Exposes More Investment Funds With Questionable Ties To The Adani Group
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Three investment funds that purchased shares in Adani Enterprises’ scuttled $2.5 billion offering have ties to the Adani Group and suspected Adani proxies, according to a Forbes analysis Three investment funds with ties to the Adani Group committed to buying up shares as investors in Adani Enterprises follow-on stock offering, which was abruptly canceled Wednesday following a drop in Adani Enterprises’ share price in the wake of U.S. short seller Hindenburg Research’s 100-page report . Two Mauritius-based funds, Ayushmat Ltd and Elm Park Fund, and India-based Aviator Global Investment Fund, together agreed to buy 9.24% of all shares available to anchor investors , the institutional investors who are allotted shares a day before the public offering. That percentage represented an investment of just $66 million, but is likely more evidence of Adani getting help from affiliated parties.
