SK Biopharm starts phase 3 trials of epilepsy treatment
SK Biopharmaceuticals logo SK Biopharmaceuticals began global Phase 3 clinical trials of carisbamate, its candidate to treat symptoms of Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS), the company said Thursday. Trials will be conducted on 250 children and adults who suffer from LGS in 60 institutions in the United States and European countries. LGS is a type of epilepsy. Patients with LGS experience many different types of seizures including tonic stiffening of the body. There is no cure for the disorder. Around 48,000 children and adults in the United States have LGS and around 1 million worldwide. The Pangyo, Gyeonggi-based biopharmaceutical company said carisbamate has received Orphan Drug Designation (ODD) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Disney World will host an LGBTQ+ conference on the heels of Disney’s high-profile conflict with Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis over LGBT issues in the state. Before Arte Moreno pulled the plug on selling his Los Angeles Angels in January, he would have gotten at least $2.7 billion, or $280 million more than the MLB record $2.42 billion that Steve Cohen paid for the New York Mets in 2020, according to people familiar with the sale process. The average MLB team value is up 12% this year, to $2.32 billion. During the 2022 season, revenue (net of stadium debt service) increased 7.8%, to an all-time high of $10.3 billion. Former Thai model arrested for scamming victims out of 100 million baht online
Police arrested a former Thai model for creating an online investment scam that stole over 100 million baht from victims. According to the Bangkok Post, Wetika Jaija was arrested in the San Sai district of Chiang Mai at a residential address. The 30 year old Wetika was charged with obtaining loans amounting to public cheating, entering false computer system data into a computer system and fraud. Police say she lured victims into investing in a Ponzi scheme and promised them a 100% return on their investments. She allegedly claimed she had won a world-class trading competition and posted photos of luxury cars and a house on her Facebook page. Initially, her promise was kept as victims received consistent dividends, but then she pulled out and disappeared. More than 100 people transferred money to Wetika but realised something was amiss as she took down her social media accounts and halted the payouts.
