What To Stream This Weekend On Netflix, HBO, Disney+, Amazon Prime And More

February 4, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin It’s the weekend and that means that at least some lucky folks get to take a break from the 9-to-5 grind and relax. It’s also the middle of winter, which is a perfect time to chill out with a good movie or a binge-worthy show. This isn’t the busiest weekend for new movies and shows, but I have some suggestions along with a full list of new content coming to Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, HBO and more below. Wakanda Forever (Disney+) As you can see in the image above, Wakanda Forever is finally streaming. The Black Panther sequel dropped on Disney+ this week, and if you haven’t gotten around to seeing it now you have no excuses. I actually . . . still haven’t seen this movie somehow. I think when I saw the run-time (2 hours and 41 minutes) I just balked at going to it in theaters. I’d seen The Batman recently and it was too long. I knew I’d be going to Avatar: The Way Of Water soon and it was way too long. … [Read more...] about What To Stream This Weekend On Netflix, HBO, Disney+, Amazon Prime And More

Coronavirus Could Be A $12 Billion Hit To Entertainment And Audiences May Never Be The Same

March 18, 2020 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin They’re all closed. Movie Theaters. Bars. Nightclubs. Arenas. Cafes. In New York, Broadway and museums are shuttered. In San Francisco it’s even more dire. Across the country and the world, cities are shutting down, leaving humans from Seattle to Shanghai without traditional ways of finding distraction. The mandate for social distancing that has proven essential at slowing the spread of the coronavirus will cut about $12 billion of entertainment revenue from the U.S. if the shutdown lasts until July, as President Trump signaled . Billions more are not being spent on creating new content as film and television production is frozen. Things could get a lot worse. “ This is definitely unprecedented and turning everyone's lives completely upside down,” says Ryan Borba, managing editor at concert tracker Pollstar. The concert and live event industry brought in $34 billion last year, according to … [Read more...] about Coronavirus Could Be A $12 Billion Hit To Entertainment And Audiences May Never Be The Same

Pre-Grammys MusiCares Gala Goes Motown

February 4, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Maybe it was the opportunity for so many in the music industry to comfortably share the same room again. Maybe it was the soul-stirring beats. Or maybe it was just the infectious exuberance of the two men who've been embodying the term bromance since long before bromance was a thing. Whatever the case, the celebration of Motown founder Berry Gordy and legendary Motown songwriter and artist Smokey Robinson—who share one of the most aspirational friendships in entertainment history—as MusiCares Persons of the Year was a joyous affair. Smiles were abundant throughout the room, though none more bright than those emanating from the two honorees themselves. The event, held February 3 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, marked the first time the annual Grammy weekend gala to benefit the Recording Academy’s philanthropic arm feted two music luminaries at once. The dynamic duo brought out both Motown family members—Stevie … [Read more...] about Pre-Grammys MusiCares Gala Goes Motown

Reflections on Marcos’ 1st 6 months

February 5, 2023 by business.inquirer.net

ILLUSTRATION BY ALBERT RODRIGUEZ It’s been six months since President Marcos was sworn into office. If we liken Mr. Marcos’ six-year term to the well-loved game of basketball, we are now in the second half of the first of six games. The first half of Game 1 was filled with many challenges. A Pulse Asia survey last September 2022 showed that the top concerns of Filipinos are controlling inflation, increasing the pay of workers and creating more jobs. Unfortunately, these continue to burden Filipinos into halftime of Game 1. Before the first “game” ends on June 30, 2023, we’d like to share some of the administration’s notable wins during its first six months and some reflections on how to sustain the fight against these challenges. Wins First among Mr. Marcos’ wins is the appointment of credible and experienced economic managers. This means that we have a strong team to overcome the pandemic’s lingering effects on the economy. Second, several executive actions were made … [Read more...] about Reflections on Marcos’ 1st 6 months

Elon Musk Will Share Revenue With Twitter ‘Creators,’ If They Pay Him

February 4, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin There is one idea that Elon Musk has for Twitter that on the surface, actually sounds pretty good. He subscribes to the notion that Twitter users are “creators” for the site, and like places like Twitch and YouTube, the company should share some portion of the revenue they’re helping to generate. Of course, in practice, the implementation of how he says he’s going to do this sounds…terrible. Yesterday, Elon Musk announced that “starting today,” creators would be able to share in the revenue generated from the newly-inserted ads in reply threads. By the end of the day, there was no indication that program had actually gone live, and there were no further details about what kind of revenue split there would and who was eligible, other than one point of clarity: This would only apply to Twitter Blue members. So, in effect, what Elon Musk is saying is that if you pay him $8-11 a month for Blue, or at minimum … [Read more...] about Elon Musk Will Share Revenue With Twitter ‘Creators,’ If They Pay Him

February 3, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Key takeaways Meta announced $32bn in revenue for Q4, beating analysts’ expectations The earnings report this week was laser-focused on solving problems, marking a shift away from CEO Mark Zuckerberg talking about the Metaverse Heavy hints towards further streamlining Meta’s workforce, amongst other cost-cutting plans, caused its share price to jump 20% in a day Meta has reported $32bn revenue recorded for Q4, beating all estimations and putting other Big Tech companies on notice. CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s talk of further efficiencies and cost-cutting measures, with a hint of future layoffs, was a notable departure from his previous double-down on the Metaverse, a fairly theoretical and money sink for the company yet to pay off. Wall Street responded in turn with a massive 20% jump in Meta’s share price, one of the biggest gains in Meta’s history. Some Are Clearly Missing The Point Of The 40-Year-Old New Wave Hit ’99 Luftballons’

February 4, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The suspected Chinese spy balloon – which Beijing maintains is a rogue weather balloon – has led to a serious diplomatic crisis, and even resulted in U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken canceling a weekend trip to China. While the Pentagon has said the balloon poses no threat to the United States, Blinken called the alleged surveillance an "irresponsible act" and a "clear violation of U.S. sovereignty and international law." The balloon's presence over the United States has added to already rising tensions between Washington and Beijing, and both Democratic and Republican lawmakers had been seen to be rather hawkish on China on Friday. Questions were asked about why efforts weren't made to shoot down or otherwise bring down the balloon. However, the timing of the incident could be seen as good news for the German New Wave pop group Nena, which already had plans for a summer European tour . Since the balloon was first … [Read more...] about Some Are Clearly Missing The Point Of The 40-Year-Old New Wave Hit ’99 Luftballons’

Clean Energy | Betting on hydrogen is the right way to go ahead

February 17, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Hydrogen is the new aspiration in India’s energy landscape that has the potential to wipe out the country’s annual fossil-fuel import bill of a staggering $160 billion, and place Indian entrepreneurship at the forefront of the green industrial revolution that is sweeping the planet. Hydrogen is increasingly being seen as the ideal green fuel that can replace polluting fossil fuels in the world where a strong consensus against fossil fuels has emerged as climate change has caused severe droughts, floods and extreme temperatures. However, hydrogen as a source of genuinely clean energy is still work in progress. The problem is that globally, almost the entire production of hydrogen is based on the use of fossil fuels, which dents its green credentials, even though its use to power fuel-cell based motors is totally emission free. The solution is to use clean electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, but the cost of doing this is currently prohibitive. Hydrogen produced … [Read more...] about Clean Energy | Betting on hydrogen is the right way to go ahead
