Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Air pollution is a serious matter. Who wants to visit a city only to end up walking its streets breathing acrid smells and harming your health? But air pollution doesn’t just mean the smog we can see – the really dangerous stuff is invisible to the naked eye. A 2022 report by the World Health Organization cites that 99% of the entire global population is breathing polluted, health-harming air. And with more than 6,000 cities across 117 countries now monitoring air quality, the data set is comprehensive and compelling. To try and clarify that into something usable, the air experts at HouseFresh have mapped 480 cities around the world, calculating the average air pollution level of the first nine months of 2019 against the first nine months of 2022 to see where air pollution has increased and where it has decreased. Using aqicn.org’s World Air Quality Index data for each city, they measured average levels of particulate … [Read more...] about Mapped: New Survey Shows Air Pollution Changes In Cities Around The World

Passenger dies of heart attack on flight from India to Bangkok
An IndiGo flight bound for Bangkok from Mumbai was diverted to Myanmar yesterday after a passenger died on board. According to a Times of India report, the unnamed passenger suffered a heart attack less than an hour after the flight took off at 4pm from Mumbai. Despite efforts to assist the man, he tragically passed away and the flight was diverted to an airport in Myanmar. This incident occurred just days after another IndiGo flight, en route from Ranchi to Pune, was diverted to Nagpur due to a medical emergency on board. Unfortunately, the passenger in question also did not survive. In a separate incident just a week earlier, a Delhi to Doha IndiGo flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Karachi, Pakistan, due to a medical emergency involving a Nigerian national in his sixties. Despite medical assistance provided at the airport, the passenger passed away and the flight was delayed for around five hours before being allowed to return to Delhi. Preparing Economies And Societies For Extreme Heat
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin By Daniel Murphy, Risk and Resilience Specialist, World Economic Forum Much of the world kicked off 2023 with a series of meteorological anomalies - longstanding temperature records were broken by large margins in Europe, North America, the Arctic and Africa. Eight countries experienced their warmest January on record. Normally bustling ski resorts have been deserted in Switzerland this winter, because of a lack of snow; pollen warnings have been issued in Prague, due to early blooming plants; and Italian agricultural yields plummeted as a result of drought, fueled by a lack of snowmelt. In much of the US, the winter has thus far been unrecognizable. Seven northeastern states, including New York, Massachusetts and New Jersey, experienced their warmest Januarys on record. Iconic images of a New York City blanketed in snow have been far from reality this year, as the city hit a new record for the longest stretch without … [Read more...] about Preparing Economies And Societies For Extreme Heat
North Korea Claimed ICBM Launch Aimed To “strike fear into the adversaries”
(CTN NEWS) – North Korea claimed it launched an ICBM on Friday to “strike fear into the adversaries,” as South Korea, Japan, and the United States committed to cooperate closely on regional security at a summit and conducted military drills nearby. A meeting between South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida that took place hours later was overshadowed by the missile that North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un and his daughter watched from a distance launch Thursday. Rebuilding security relations between the frequently separated U.S. partners in the wake of North Korean nuclear threats was one goal of the Tokyo summit. North Korea has increased its tit-for-tat response to continuing U.S.-South Korean military drills, which are the largest of their sort in years, with four missile shows in about a week. The Biden administration is pushing to bolster its alliance network in Asia to confront the North Korean nuclear threat and China’s … [Read more...] about North Korea Claimed ICBM Launch Aimed To “strike fear into the adversaries”

The land, which is owned by the university, sits along the El Camino corridor and was previously populated by car dealerships. This is the first upscale development of this size and scope, Stephen and Jared Silver, principals of Stephen Silver Fine Jewelry, said. The Silvers, who are managing and programming the retail and restaurant spaces at Middle Plaza, said the luxury retail and dining experience will open in the fourth quarter. Meme coin Shiba Inu is starting its second act—in the metaverse
On Monday at SXSW, hours after Silicon Valley Bank’s collapse jeopardized the future of most tech startups, hundreds of festival-goers filed into a Zen escape: a virtual landscape with enchanting forests of bamboo and cherry trees swaying in the wind, and an unmistakable monument to the Japanese hunting dog breed Shiba Inu. Dubbed the WAGMI temple, in an homage to the crypto slogan “We’re all gonna make it,” it offered a respite from the flailing financial ecosystems—and the first look at the metaverse being built by developers of the Shiba Inu (SHIB) cryptocurrency. Without crypto’s decentralization, bank runs like last Friday’s “are inevitable,” Shytoshi Kusama, the mysterious lead developer of Shiba Inu who goes only by his pseudonym and an avatar of a hooded figure in a long cloak, tells Fast Company via Google Meet. With his video camera off, he types into a chatbox, refusing to speak out loud. He’s citing banks’ fractional reserves. “As more people realize this … [Read more...] about Meme coin Shiba Inu is starting its second act—in the metaverse

How Leaders Can Navigate Sustainability And Transformation In The Airline Industry
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin CEO of Fernweh Group , Chairman of Avail Infrastructure Solutions and Chairman of Ayna.AI. The airport industry is going through a major transformation, and airport management is having to contend with a new airport of the future—one that is sustainable, digitally enabled and able to provide a more seamless experience for travelers. GORDON CHANG: We Ignore China’s War Warnings At Our Own Peril
“If the U.S. doesn’t hit the brakes and continues to barrel down the wrong track,” China’s Foreign Minister Qin Gang said on March 7, “no amount of guardrails can prevent the carriage from derailing and crashing, and there will surely be conflict and confrontation.” He also spoke of “catastrophic consequences.” The unusually pointed warning followed that of Chinese ruler Xi Jinping of the day before. “Western countries, led by the U.S., are implementing all-round containment, encirclement, and suppression against us,” he told the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in Beijing. These comments suggest a marked deterioration in relations between Washington and Beijing. What is happening?
