One More Lap Around the Pylons -The Last Reno Air Races Are This Fall

March 22, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin At the end of the annual Reno National Championship Air Races this September, a 60-year tradition of closed-course pylon air racing will end in northern Nevada and with it an invaluable piece of American tradition. The hope is that air racing may carry on elsewhere but it’s a tough ask. A fortnight ago, the Reno Air Racing Association (RARA) announced that 2023 will be the final year that the Reno-Stead Airport (north of the City of Reno) will host the National Championship Air Races from September 13-17. The end of the six-decade event came with a decision by the Reno Tahoe Airport Authority ( RTAA ) - which runs Reno-Stead Airport where the Races have been held since 1964 - not to renew a contract with RARA to hold the event based on concerns including “rapid area development, public safety and the impact on the Reno-Stead Airport and its surrounding areas.” “They gave a variety of reasons,” RARA COO, Tony … [Read more...] about One More Lap Around the Pylons -The Last Reno Air Races Are This Fall

Mapped: New Survey Shows Air Pollution Changes In Cities Around The World

March 17, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Air pollution is a serious matter. Who wants to visit a city only to end up walking its streets breathing acrid smells and harming your health? But air pollution doesn’t just mean the smog we can see – the really dangerous stuff is invisible to the naked eye. A 2022 report by the World Health Organization cites that 99% of the entire global population is breathing polluted, health-harming air. And with more than 6,000 cities across 117 countries now monitoring air quality, the data set is comprehensive and compelling. To try and clarify that into something usable, the air experts at HouseFresh have mapped 480 cities around the world, calculating the average air pollution level of the first nine months of 2019 against the first nine months of 2022 to see where air pollution has increased and where it has decreased. Using aqicn.org’s World Air Quality Index data for each city, they measured average levels of particulate … [Read more...] about Mapped: New Survey Shows Air Pollution Changes In Cities Around The World

‘Future Boy Conan’ Blu-Ray Review: Hayao Miyazaki’s Best And Most Influential Anime Work

November 7, 2021 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Of all the anime series that we assumed would never see an English release, Future Boy Conan was the main candidate. Yet, here we are and while we are several decades late to the party, it’s certainly been worth the wait. Originally aired on Japanese television back in 1978, it told of events of the then future of 2008, where humanity has created ultra-magnetic weapons that shatter the tectonic plates and tilt the Earth on its axis. Killing billions in an instant, whole continents sink beneath the sea and humanity nearly becomes extinct. The series itself then picks up twenty years later, where survivors live on an island thinking they are all that is left of humanity. With these being an old gentleman simply called Grandpa and the uniquely tough and upbeat Conan. It’s not long after the series starts that we are introduced to a girl called Lana washed up on a beach. Quickly followed the forces of a mysterious … [Read more...] about ‘Future Boy Conan’ Blu-Ray Review: Hayao Miyazaki’s Best And Most Influential Anime Work

Review: Logitech MX Master 3S Mouse For Mac

March 24, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin I am a long-time Apple guy. I have a Windows laptop and I frequently review Windows PCs, but I prefer a Mac as my primary computer. It’s not just the operating system, it’s also the hardware. However, Apple doesn’t always get it quite right. And the company can be incredibly stubborn about fixing a flawed design. Case in point the Magic Mouse, the wireless mouse included with most Apple Macs and the default choice for MacBook owners who want to use a mouse instead of their laptop’s trackpad when sitting at a desk. The minimalist slab of aluminum and glossy plastic looks sleek and its support for touch gestures like swiping make it feel like a premium product. However, many users soon discover it has limitations. I still bring a Magic Mouse with me for travel because of its compact form factor, but the design is not great for extended use (my hands cramp up). Its symmetrical design makes it too easy to grab and accidentally … [Read more...] about Review: Logitech MX Master 3S Mouse For Mac

Xiaomi 13 Pro Review: This Camera Has A Phone On It

March 21, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Right off the bat, if there’s one thing you need to know about the Xiaomi 13 Pro, it’s all about the cameras. “Aren’t all flagship phones camera-focused these days?” you might ask. They are, but the Xiaomi 13 Pro packs a refreshing take on cameras that makes it stand out in the segment. So, I’ll start my Xiaomi 13 Pro review by detailing the cameras, and then diving into the smartphone-y bits. Xiaomi 13 Pro review: Cameras The Xiaomi 13 Pro sports a triple rear camera setup, which is led by a 50MP Sony IMX989, 1-inch sensor. It is accompanied by a 3.2x optical zoom-capable 50MP telephoto camera and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle shooter with a 115-degree field-of-view. All of these are Leica-tuned, which isn’t just a branding thing. It actually makes a difference on the results. On the front lies an unimpressive 32MP selfie camera. You can choose from two options for the color tone – Leica Vibrant and Leica Authentic. The … [Read more...] about Xiaomi 13 Pro Review: This Camera Has A Phone On It

FAA Urges Airlines To Review Safety Procedures After String Of ‘Concerning’ Near-Misses

March 22, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Topline The Federal Aviation Administration issued a safety alert Wednesday urging airlines to evaluate their safety procedures and communications, after a series of potentially devastating near-misses at multiple airports this winter caused FAA officials to reassess the air travel system. Key Facts There have been six runway incidents since the start of the year, including close calls involving a departing plane at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York and another at Austin-Bergstrom Airport involving a plane that was landing (none of the incidents resulted in fatalities). The recent spate of close calls doesn’t reflect an increase in the number of incidents, but the FAA warned the “potential severity of these events is concerning.” The FAA urged airline directors and pilots to use “all available internal communication systems and have all flight crews familiarize themselves with the “risks associated with … [Read more...] about FAA Urges Airlines To Review Safety Procedures After String Of ‘Concerning’ Near-Misses

AMD 32-Core Threadripper 2990WX And 16-Core 2950X Reviews: Most Powerful Ever Desktop Processors?

August 13, 2018 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin When AMD launched its high-end desktop Threadripper CPUs last year, it took the industry a bit by surprise. Yet it went on to claim the top performance crown with the Threadripper 1950X , beating Intel's flagship 10-core Core i7-6950X thanks to a six-core advantage. That lead didn't last long, though, as Intel responded with the mighty Core i9-7980XE , which had two more cores. However, Threadripper still represented excellent value for money, costing half what the Intel CPU did at some points in the last 12 months. Today, though, AMD is setting its sights on that crown again and with 32 cores under the hood, the 2nd Gen Threadripper 2990WX looks set to hold onto it for longer than it did last year too.
