Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The first time I visited the commercial hub of Gurgaon, in India, I was struck by the sheer number of skyscrapers housing Fortune 500 companies that called the “cyber city” home. And now, rising from the concrete city is a dramatic green masterpiece, The Camellias , a unique architectural utopia twice the size of Central Park. Created by DLF and headed by billionaire Kushal Pal Singh , the company began developing 22 urban colonies in Delhi. In 1985, the company started luxury living spaces for professionals in Gurgaon. They invest in sustainability from wastewater treatment systems at the DLF Golf and Country Club and recycling construction materials. Singh’s creation has enabled Gurgaon to become the leader in innovative green technology. How Russian Airlines Have Been Able To Skirt Sanctions And Keep Flying
Russian carriers have been able to scrounge enough spare parts to maintain robust domestic service across their vast country. S ince the start of Russia’s war with Ukraine, GA Telesis, a Florida-based aircraft-parts distributor, has been getting a lot of suspicious requests. They’re from shadowy companies formed over the past year in the United Arab Emirates and former Soviet republics like Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. Mindful of sanctions against Russia, GA Telesis asks for proof that the parts are for a particular airline and plane. When confronted with those questions, company founder Abdol Moabery says, they vanish. “We have a robust compliance department,” Moabery tells Forbes, “but not everybody does.” When the U.S. and Europe first imposed economic sanctions in the wake of the Kremlin’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine a year ago, aviation experts expected that Russian airlines would be reduced to cannibalizing parts to keep a dwindling number of planes in the air. … [Read more...] about How Russian Airlines Have Been Able To Skirt Sanctions And Keep Flying

Murky water at Koh Samui beach caused by plankton bloom, not oil spill: officials
UPDATE The smelly, murky water putting off tourists from swimming in the sea at Maenam Beach in Koh Samui , southern Thailand , is not an oil spill but caused by a plankton bloom , which is a natural phenomenon, according to the Director of Koh Samui Harbour Authority, Arun Buppako. The photos circulating of green murky water at the beach show dead plankton floating on the surface of the water, said the director. Officials inspected the area and found no oil spills, he added. According to NaewNa , the director said… “Plankton blooms are a natural phenomena that happen every year. One main contributing factor is that when wastewater from the community is released into the sea, it acts as nutrients for plankton, causing them to multiply quickly. When the oxygen in the water depletes, the plankton dies, turning the seawater green. By using the bones of old buildings, this company lowers the carbon footprint of skyscraper construction
3XN is No. 32 on Fast Company’s list of the World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies of 2023 . Explore the full list of companies that are reshaping industries and culture. Last year, the Sydney skyline got a strikingly modern addition: a 49-story office tower, built from a decades-old structure. The Quay Quarter Tower , in the city’s historic Circular Quay, stands on the site of a 1976 skyscraper that Danish architecture firm 3XN repurposed to create the new building. More akin to a face-lift than a birth, this kind of large-scale structural reuse has clear environmental advantages. By incorporating 65% of the original building’s floor plates and 95% of its concrete elevator shafts and stairwells into the new tower, 3XN reduced the overall material needs of the project. That slashed the so-called embodied carbon emissions that would have resulted from creating new concrete and steel for construction. The architects estimate that this approach saved 13,000 tons of embodied … [Read more...] about By using the bones of old buildings, this company lowers the carbon footprint of skyscraper construction
