Is The Future Of Supercars Electric?

April 23, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Supercars, and their even more extreme hypercar successors, are the pinnacle of what internal combustion can deliver. Vehicles like the Bugatti Veyron and Chiron, as well as competitors from Swedish Koenigsegg and American SSC, have traded blows over the last couple of decades as the fastest production cars in the world. But they are being eclipsed by a new genre of supercars: electric ones. The Lamborghini Miura is often cited as the first supercar, and it still stands up today as one of the most beautiful vehicles ever made. Perhaps the Jaguar XK120 from 1949 or the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing of 1955 deserve to be considered the first supercars instead. Either way, these are exotic vehicles, intended to combine design excellence with extreme performance. Successors in this genre include the Lamborghini Countach, Porsche 959, Ferrari F40 and McLaren F1. All held the position of “fastest production car in the world”, until the … [Read more...] about Is The Future Of Supercars Electric?

Shanghai prepares for the decisive COVID battle; Beijing outbreak stubborn

May 14, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

(Representative image: AP) Shanghai was tightening its COVID-19 lockdown for what it hoped would be the final week of its battle with the virus before it could gradually begin to ease restrictions, while Beijing kept fighting its much smaller but persistent outbreak. China's commercial hub of 25 million hoped to come out of its painful six-week-old lockdown later this month. Authorities on Saturday were hoping one last round of tightening would eradicate the last infections of the country's worst COVID outbreak of the pandemic. Many residents of the nation's most populous city, allowed to leave their housing compounds about a week ago for short walks or quick grocery trips, have more recently received notices to stay indoors for a three-day "silent" period. Many buildings were told overnight that restriction would be extended until Friday. Going silent usually means residents cannot leave home and, in some cases, it can mean no deliveries. Linette Lim, who has spent more … [Read more...] about Shanghai prepares for the decisive COVID battle; Beijing outbreak stubborn

Compliance Is A Crucial Part Of Digital Transformation—Here’s How To Achieve It

May 10, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin By Devin Partida The term “digital transformation” often gets thrown around in our ever-changing business environment. It’s a catch-all term that describes new and emerging digital technologies to improve business processes, achieve higher efficiencies, and satisfy customers. Most customers expect companies to have a strong digital presence through means such as social media platform posting, a website, and quality content. However, as digital technology becomes more widely used, it can open up businesses to compliance issues. Keeping compliance top of mind, rather than leaving it on the back burner, will protect a company as it digitally transforms. Here is how a small or medium-sized business (SMB) can ensure a smooth, compliant digital transformation, which is now essential in today’s business landscape. Key components in a digital transformation In this day and age, many companies deliver digital … [Read more...] about Compliance Is A Crucial Part Of Digital Transformation—Here’s How To Achieve It

Fintech For All

May 12, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin You could imagine that tech should and could provide solutions for people with disabilities. Well, of course, that can only happen if people with disabilities are part of designing the process from the outset. I wonder if their lack of involvement is the reason for the failure of many Fintech solutions? Since being launched and playing a part in the mainstream, financial technology has been met with criticism. These complaints have been due to inaccessibility and discrimination. According to an article by Entrepreneur , there are 1.7 billion unbanked people worldwide and households with disabilities are more likely to be unbanked as those with no disabilities. To break this down means they have no spending records, resulting in reduced access to financial assistance and loans. For some, it is easier to access or visit a bank, but this can be a daunting task for people with disability hence why Fintech is such an essential … [Read more...] about Fintech For All

Yet another allegation of sexual crimes against Thailand’s Prinn

May 15, 2022 by thethaiger.com

In the latest allegation against Thailand’s now infamous former deputy leader of the Democrat Party, a woman is accusing Prinn Panitchpakdi of indecent exposure in a restaurant in 2013, and rape in 2014. The alleged rape cannot be investigated because the victim didn’t report it within months of when it happened, and yet, police say they will summon Prinn to acknowledge the charge of indecent exposure next week. As Metropolitan police investigate 5 cases connected to Prinn, police in Phetchaburi and Chiang Mai are also looking into allegations against him in their provinces. With over 20 women now having come forward and accusing Prinn of sexual abuse and rape, this is being called Thailand’s #MeToo moment. Last month, Thai feminists protested in front of Democrat Party headquarters in Bangkok, and danced to an anthem titled “Sida Lui Faai” — i.e. “Sida Through Fire” — a reference to how victims of sexual abuse in Thailand are often blamed by the powers that be for the abuse … [Read more...] about Yet another allegation of sexual crimes against Thailand’s Prinn

COVID-19 claims 1 million lives in the United States

May 12, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Representative image/PTI The United States has now recorded more than 1 million COVID-19 deaths, according to a Reuters tally, crossing a once-unthinkable milestone about two years after the first cases upended everyday life and quickly transformed it. The 1 million mark is a stark reminder of the staggering grief and loss caused by the pandemic even as the threat posed by the virus wanes in the minds of many people. It represents about one death for every 327 Americans, or more than the entire population of San Francisco or Seattle. By the time the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a global pandemic on March 11, 2020, the virus had claimed 36 lives in the United States. In the months that followed, the deadly virus spread like wildfire, finding fertile ground in densely populated urban areas such as New York City and then reaching every corner of the country. By June 2020, the U.S. death toll had surpassed the total of the country’s military deaths in … [Read more...] about COVID-19 claims 1 million lives in the United States

Tesla Is Hedging Its Global EV Supply Chain Bets on Indonesia and India

May 13, 2022 by www.moneycontrol.com

Bloomberg From India to Indonesia, Elon Musk is scouting out sites to make more Teslas for global roads. With the world mired in supply chain chaos, access to materials matters most. He’s got it right. After lobbying against India’s tight policies around manufacturing and prohibitive import duties, Musk is headed to meet Indonesia’s President Joko Widodo and visit several areas across the country, which is also the top producer of nickel, a key metal for batteries. That’s an astute bet — for Tesla and Indonesia. And a missed opportunity for New Delhi. To meet ambitious electric vehicle targets, Indonesia has drawn in several battery and car manufacturers in recent months with a variety of incentives. Government ministers say they hope to have investment across the supply chain. With a friendly policy bolstering the country’s EV goals, manufacturers have started committing billions of dollars. LG Energy Solution, along with other companies, is investing about $9 billion to set … [Read more...] about Tesla Is Hedging Its Global EV Supply Chain Bets on Indonesia and India
