“I was born to play football, just like Beethoven was born to write music and Michelangelo was born to paint.” Pelé, born Edson Arantes do Nascimento on October 23, 1940, in Três Corações , a small town in Minas Gerais, Brazil, has died at Albert Einstein hospital in São Paulo after a long illness, at the age of 82. Pelé, the Brazilian virtuoso whose skill and athleticism saw him universally regarded as one of the world’s greatest-ever footballers had a colon tumour removed in 2021, and was readmitted to Albert Einstein hospital in São Paulo in November amid deteriorating health. A hospital statement on Thursday confirmed the death of “our dear King of Football” at 3.27pm local time, “due to the failure of multiple organs, a result of the progression of cancer of colon associated with his previous clinical condition.” Known as “The King” (O Rei) in Brazil, Pelé scored 12 goals in 14 World Cup final games. He played at four World Cup finals, winning the tournament in … [Read more...] about Born to play football – Pelé passes in Sao Paulo hospital, aged 82

Once you spot Gen Z’s favorite colors, you’ll see them everywhere
Adrian Chan, an architect and researcher, has always loved the sleek lines of 1960s retrofuturism combined with a muted color palette. Plenty of his past projects leaned on this subdued aesthetic, including his work on Office of Blocks and Longitudinal Studio . Yet, during a recent project he designed for a dietitian’s studio, Chan decided to shake things up by injecting a pop of saturated mint green throughout the space. The client he was designing for wanted to appeal to a wide demographic, including younger clientele, and this statement green (also described as Neo Mint ), felt aligned with a new wave of bold colors popping up in marketing and products. “I think it has to do with technology being all encompassing, but still, people want to be in touch with nature,” Chan says of his choice. “These colors evoke both progress and nature.” You can see similar shades on Skims’ neon-green swimsuits , Futurewise’ s Pepto pink jars, Droplette ’s bright lilac … [Read more...] about Once you spot Gen Z’s favorite colors, you’ll see them everywhere
The eQuinox 2 Puts Astronomy Within Reach (Despite City Lights)
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin I grew up yearning to be an astronaut or, failing that, to get a telescope to view the celestial objects which were painfully out of reach. When I finally got my own telescope as a teen, I was disappointed by how little of the heavens actually made its way through the intense light pollution of Jersey City nights. If only I’d had the Unistellar eQuinox 2 back then, because this is a telescope that cuts through city light pollution to help you see amazing celestial objects with incredibly clarity. I’ve been exploring the cosmos with the new eQuinox 2 for a couple of weeks, and I am simply amazed at what it’s capable of. After all, like most of us, I live in a city, where commercial and residential illumination obliterates the night sky, dramatically reducing the number of things you can observe through a telescope in your backyard (if you don’t know what I mean, go camping sometime and check out the Milky Way as it actually … [Read more...] about The eQuinox 2 Puts Astronomy Within Reach (Despite City Lights)
New York City FC’s Home Comforts In The Bronx And Queens
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin New York City FC made a stuttering start to the 2023 Major League Soccer season, losing its opening game 2-0 to Nashville and drawing 1-1 with Chicago Fire. The MLS schedule handed head coach Nick Cushing and his team two away games to kick off the new season, travelling first to Tennessee and then to Illinois, returning to New York with just one point. The home opener against Inter Miami was more encouraging, and that’s perhaps no surprise given NYCFC regularly has one of the best home records in the league. Despite worries about the departure of many key players in the past year, including the spine of the team from goalkeeper Sean Johnson to goalscorer Taty Castellanos, there was something more familiar about the team’s play once it was back in the Bronx. NYCFC created a few chances against Inter Miami, with an expected goals score of 1.45 - 0.30 in its favor, indicating the 1-0 win was deserved. The low … [Read more...] about New York City FC’s Home Comforts In The Bronx And Queens
