Global Times: PLA to start live fire drills 2 days after Pelosi’s visit, leaves time for ship evacuations, airline adjustments

August 4, 2022 by www.theedgemarkets.com

- A + A (Aug 4): Shortly after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi landed in Taiwan for her provocative visit on Tuesday night, the Xinhua News Agency announced that the People's Liberation Army (PLA) would conduct a series of live fire military drills from Thursday to Saturday in six different areas that encircle the island from all directions. Some people have been questioning why the PLA decided to kick off the drills two days after her arrival. A military expert explained that the arrangement shows the PLA's rational and responsible attitude as it leaves time for domestic and foreign civilian ships and airlines to evacuate their ships and adjust their flights. Zhang Junshe, a senior research fellow at the Naval Research Academy of the People's Liberation Army, told the Global Times on Wednesday that the drills include long-range live-fire shooting and conventional missile test launches. Per international conventions, areas of military drills have to be … [Read more...] about Global Times: PLA to start live fire drills 2 days after Pelosi’s visit, leaves time for ship evacuations, airline adjustments

During the hour-long session, myself and a group of journalist learned about most of the new gameplay features coming to NBA 2K23. Many of the other features were provided to us in an advance look at the first Courtside Report, which you can read here . There are several potentially impactful changes coming to the game this year. Here are the 10 that stood out most from the presentation. Double Pro-Stick Flicks NBA 2K23 will introduce new gameplay commands called double throws and switchbacks. Double throws are two, quick successive flicks of the right stick (which have different high-level attacks and actions attached) and a switchback is a flick in one direction, followed by a quick flick in the opposite direction. A different set of attacks and actions will be attached to that mechanic. The new rim-hang … [Read more...] about NBA 2K23 Gameplay Info: 10 Things That Stood Out During Virtual Dev Sessions

Arindam Banerrji, Executive Vice-President and Managing Director, Wells Fargo India & Philippines. Note to readers: Fit to Lead is a series of interviews with business leaders on their approach to fitness, leadership and navigating the new normal. The game that he loves and plays three days a week these days is one that Arindam Banerrji turned to as a teenager in Kolkata in order to get a sports scholarship at a US college. He didn’t manage a par as a golf scholar then and was, instead, set off on his current path where he finds himself as the executive vice-president and managing director of Wells Fargo for India and the Philippines. The 57-year-old chartered accountant loves being in the thick of things and around people, so the pandemic was a tough time for him as he couldn’t play golf nor work with his colleagues in his office. “I want to be in the office meeting and communicating with people. I did get to spend a lot more time with my wife and kids but I just … [Read more...] about Fit to lead | Wells Fargo’s Arindam Banerrji: Sports and fitness routines offer invaluable net practice for a leader

I Drove My Used Electric Nissan Leaf From Snohomish Washington to Tigard Oregon

January 28, 2019 by www.inc.com

What would happen if I took my used electric car on a 430-mile road trip? I decided to find out. Here's what I learned along the way. When I tell people I have an electric car, their first question is always the same: How far can I go on a charge? It's a logical question and one I pondered mightily before buying my car, a 2015 Nissan Leaf . But it doesn't have a simple answer. I always begin with a disclaimer: There are many electric cars that go much farther than mine. The Chevy Bolt has a range of 238 miles on a charge. Some versions of the Tesla Model S can go 335 miles. That makes my Leaf's range of 84 miles seem wimpy. But I wanted to see if I would like driving electric and I didn't want a huge car loan and I've never owned a new car in my life. I bought the Leaf because it only cost $10,000. Every electric vehicle driver knows that a car's official range is truly misleading. Range is very variable, depending on a lot of factors. Are you going uphill or … [Read more...] about I Drove My Used Electric Nissan Leaf From Snohomish Washington to Tigard Oregon

Despite being a strong student in high school, Sydney Dodini struggled during her freshman year at Brigham Young University. She kept showing up late to lectures and found it difficult to focus during class. When she flew home in the spring, she asked her father, Aaron Dodini, a psychologist who specializes in ADHD testing, to give her a QbTest, an FDA-cleared ADHD diagnostic screening tool that can be done online. advertisement advertisement ADHD, or attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, is one of the more common neurobehavioral disorders usually first diagnosed in childhood and which can continue into adulthood. Symptoms fall into three categories: inattention, manifesting in difficulty sustaining focus, staying on task, and staying organized; hyperactivity, including excessive fidgeting, extreme restlessness, even talking too much; and impulsivity, including difficulty with self-control, delaying gratification, and considering long-term … [Read more...] about An ADHD diagnosis can be expensive and inaccurate. The $100 Baseball Bat That Could Save The Major Leagues Millions

July 8, 2013 by www.fastcompany.com

It’s April 9, 2013. Gordon Beckham of the White Sox stands at the plate facing down the Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez. The promising young hitter has weathered a tough few years of disappointing averages, but his 2013 season is off to a solid start. He’s batting over .300, meaning it could be the season of the turnaround, the year that redirects his career to come. advertisement advertisement A 2-2 fastball fires from the mound. Beckham swings big , spinning almost 360 degrees before hunching over in pain. No one knows why. Moments later, Beckham would be in the dugout with trainers staring at his hand with a strange, clinical detachment, curious how his body had betrayed him. In reality, the pain had little to do with his mega swing. Beckham actually sustained an injury on the pitch before–a typical high outside fastball that he appeared to innocuously foul. “When I swung through the ball, I definitely felt it,” he tells me later. “It did not … [Read more...] about The $100 Baseball Bat That Could Save The Major Leagues Millions

Editor Daily Rundown: Chief Justice Roberts Finally Speaks And ‘Real’ Unemployment Ticks Up

May 6, 2022 by dailycaller.com

WHITE HOUSE WON’T CALL OFF THE DOGS… STEVEN NELSON: Psaki won’t condemn abortion protests at justices’ homes or leak of draft ruling (VIDEO) White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Thursday declined to condemn activist plans to protest for abortion rights at the homes of Supreme Court justices — or to condemn the leak this week of a draft opinion that would strike down Roe v. Wade. Psaki tried to redirect the discussion when pressed on the potentially chaotic protests at the homes of the court’s six conservative members — three of whom are believed to live in Maryland and three in Virginia. “Do you think that progressive activists that are now planning protests outside some of the justices’s houses are extreme?” Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy asked at a briefing. “Peaceful protest? No, peaceful protest is not extreme,” Psaki replied. “Some of these justices have young kids,” Doocy countered. “Their neighbors are not all public figures. So would the president … [Read more...] about Editor Daily Rundown: Chief Justice Roberts Finally Speaks And ‘Real’ Unemployment Ticks Up

May 30, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin AI is learning from data. Practical AI is the successful (and unsuccessful) learning from data by enterprises. “Learning” in the context of AI is computer-based data classification based on examples. Today’s AI (“deep learning”) is a method of statistical analysis that can classify lots and lots of data along many dimensions. In the last decade or so it has been applied successfully to a variety of tasks, with researchers demonstrating its usefulness first in image analysis and later in text analysis (“natural language processing” or NLP). These breakthroughs have encouraged many researchers to focus their work on AI. The total number of AI publications grew from 162,444 in 2010 to 334,497 in 2021, according to the 2022 AI Index Report . In 2021, a PubMed search of papers with the keyword “deep learning” returned 14,685 citations, up from 107 papers in 2010.
