Florida Legislature Bulldozes Barriers To Jobs

March 20, 2020 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin In a well-timed move, the Florida Legislature passed a wide-ranging licensing reform bill that will reduce red tape and make it easier for Floridians to enter a number of occupations. The effort was years in the making and came a year after a similar bill failed. The seeds of legislative reform were planted more than a decade ago when three interior designers sued the state over its burdensome interior design law. In 2009, Eva Locke, Pat Levenson, and Barbara Gardner teamed with the Institute for Justice to fight back against an interior design cartel—yes, this is such a thing—and the oppressive licensing law it pushed through in the mid-1990s. At that time, the law made Florida one of only three states in the nation to make it a crime to practice interior design without a government-issued license. That license was extremely difficult to secure, and practicing without it was a crime. To get the license, interior … [Read more...] about Florida Legislature Bulldozes Barriers To Jobs

‘Going extreme’: The different emotions Gold Aceron struggled with in his love scene for ‘Scorpio Nights 3’

August 8, 2022 by entertainment.inquirer.net

Aceron in “Scorpio Nights 3” For Gold Aceron, having a romantic relationship shouldn’t be a hindrance to his plan of becoming an accomplished artist, especially since the young actor has recently taken the “sexy route” by appearing in the third remake of the erotic thriller series “Scorpio Nights.” Gold said he would encourage his girlfriend to watch Law Fajardo’s “Scorpio Nights 3,” which features Christine Bermas as his leading lady. “I would tell her, ‘You have to be ready to see projects like this because this is what I do for a living.’ The problem is, I don’t have a girlfriend anymore,” he told Inquirer Entertainment during a recent virtual media gathering. “Just the same, this person who I will eventually choose to become my life partner should understand and fully accept the kind of work that I do. I don’t think this should be difficult, especially when we put importance on communication. Lahat nadaraan sa mabuting usapan,” Gold pointed out. POV: Yes, there are enough hours in a day—if you manage your time better

August 7, 2022 by www.fastcompany.com

“There are not enough hours in the day!” advertisement advertisement We’ve all, at some point, have exclaimed that in exasperation. But guess what: it doesn’t have to be true. Time is one of the most significant professional considerations leaders have as they look to do more and amplify their impact. Cracking the code on time is especially relevant to professionals at a crossroads, those ready for their next promotion, looking to join the C-suite, or scale up their leadership or business. A Stanford study found that productivity per hour declines when we work too much. People who work 70 or more hours a week get the same amount of work done as those who work 55 hours. We all have the same 24 hours in the day, yet some individuals can accomplish much more. But how? Prioritize planning Prioritization is not just about what needs to be done but whether you are focusing your time and attention to work on the most important goals you need … [Read more...] about POV: Yes, there are enough hours in a day—if you manage your time better

How to Eat for All-Day Energy

May 31, 2012 by www.inc.com

As a busy entrepreneur you're probably going non-stop all day, but that doesn't mean your energy levels keep pace with your to-do list. Despite a consistently packed calendar from when the alarm rings in the morning to when we shut out the light at night, many busy professionals veer wildly from a post-coffee 11am energy buzz to a near catatonic post-lunch lull in the afternoon. This can't be good for your productivity, but what's to be done about it? Afternoon napping has been suggested by many and seems to align well with humans' natural circadian rhythms, but if your customers or your kids make that option untenable, are their other possibilities for dealing with your daily energy rollercoaster? On blog Dumb Little Man recently, nurse and nutritional health counselor Penny Klatell suggested busy professionals consider eating themselves to more consistent energy levels . "Food is both the culprit and the treatment for a big part of our lack of energy, muddled thinking, … [Read more...] about How to Eat for All-Day Energy

Is Home Ownership Still A Good Idea?

August 4, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Almost everyone who grew up in the United States after the end of World War II understood that an indicator of economic success if not the indicator was owning “your own home.” Homeownership attained mythic status representing not just climbing a rung up an economic ladder but a social and psychological one; owning a home meant being a full member of society. But is it really a good idea? While there are real, measurable economic gains that can be attributed to owning a home – or rather borrowing for one – has it had deleterious effects? Is it time to ask this question more seriously along with the essential one: “Is there an alternative and do we even need one?” A film by The Economist a couple years ago sets the stage for this conversation. The film’s title, “How an obsession with home ownership can ruin the economy,” might overstate the case just a bit, but it lays out in 12 minutes some of the most compelling challenges … [Read more...] about Is Home Ownership Still A Good Idea?

August 7, 2022 by www.fastcompany.com

Despite being a strong student in high school, Sydney Dodini struggled during her freshman year at Brigham Young University. She kept showing up late to lectures and found it difficult to focus during class. Cash For Housing Better Than More Building Alone

August 3, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Two years after the first rounds of Covid stimulus payments were sent by the federal government, efforts are beginning to assess the effect of direct cash payments. I have long been an advocate for cash payments, especially for rent, instead of expensive and inefficient building programs. A couple of studies point at two important outcomes from the Covid cash. First, the money helped solve real problems associated with Covid and poverty. Second, the money created some subjective impacts, specifically more awareness about money and budgeting and a heightened sense of anxiety about what happens when the subsidy is gone. If we’re going to move toward a cash for rent strategy, it’s worth taking a look at these outcomes. “ How Effective Is (More) Money? ” asks a study completed by a team of researchers looking at hundreds of Covid relief payments sent out to households during the pandemic. At first, their answer – “we find no … [Read more...] about Cash For Housing Better Than More Building Alone

This Is the Healthiest Possible Diet, According to Research

October 13, 2020 by www.inc.com

If you're an entrepreneur who wants to maximize your energy and avoid an early death by eating healthy, there is a lot of confusing advice out there to contend with. Besides a host of trendy but conflicting diets, guidelines from actual scientists change regularly. One year fat will kill you, the next sugar is public enemy number one. Is fish great for you or mercury-laced poison ? And while everyone agrees heavy drinking is unhealthy, does a glass or two of wine a day do good or bad things for your health ? Given the ever-changing answers to questions like these, it's tempting to throw up your hands and ignore everything but the most basic nutritional advice. If no one knows anything beyond fast food is bad, then you may as well let your instincts (and taste buds) guide you. But according to a research review published recently in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology , science does actually know something definitive about what you should eat. … [Read more...] about This Is the Healthiest Possible Diet, According to Research
