Thailand News Today | Backlash over sloppy happy plant guidelines
The opposition will be going after the government for its botched happy plant decriminalisation and legalisation laws. Or, specifically, their lack of details and the loose ends left dangling for Thais and foreigners to navigate. Politics aside, the June 9 announcements about the C plant in Thailand were broadly misinterpreted to be a blanket legalisation of the plant and all of its derivatives. The actual details and legislation haven’t even been tabled in parliament for debate, so the opposition is now targeting the government over its botched announcements on, what some believe, is a crucial societal issue that requires a proper debate. The opposition parties, led by Pheu Thai and Move Forward, will likely focus on hot issues like underage addiction, school kids and drugs, illicit drug use in Thailand, perils of long-term use, dangers to society, among a myriad of topics. The topic also brings additional focus to the deputy PM and public health minister, Anutin … [Read more...] about Thailand News Today | Backlash over sloppy happy plant guidelines

The agency is about to finish processing all 1040 tax returns. advertisement advertisement Well, not all of them. Just the ones filed last year. But at least it’s progress. Just Add Water: How Retired Coal Assets Could Help Power A Low-Carbon Future
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin How can states meet aggressive low-carbon electricity targets over the next two to three decades? Energy leaders from across western North America chewed on this question a few weeks ago at the Western Energy & Water Forum in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Renewable energy is clutch to meeting low-carbon goals, and its variability and intermittency present two major opportunities for innovation. To meet demand at any point in time, we need a greater diversity of supply resources—and that requires expanding the functionality and geography of the western grid. And to better calibrate the timing of supply and demand, we’ve got to have better energy storage systems. These challenges are yielding some fascinating potential solutions—including repurposing coal assets. For example, as discussions took place in Steamboat Springs, the ink was drying on Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approval of a preliminary … [Read more...] about Just Add Water: How Retired Coal Assets Could Help Power A Low-Carbon Future
