President Joe Biden took to Twitter Monday to promote his administration’s new electric vehicle tax credits, posing in a car which is responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions on average than smaller gas-powered cars. Roughly 60% of power generated in the U.S. is generated by burning fossil fuels, the Hummer EV Pickup that Biden was photographed in is responsible for, on average, 341 grams of carbon dioxide per mile, according to the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE). The Hummer EV Pickup costs roughly $110,000, well in excess of the $80,000 limit for pickups, SUVs and vans to qualify for the $7,500 tax credit for purchasing an electric vehicle provided by the Inflation Reduction Act , according to the IRS. “President … [Read more...] about Biden Poses In Electric Car That Has A Higher Carbon Footprint Than A Gas-Powered SUV

The Comet Is Now Close But The Moon Is Bright: Why To Use Binoculars And Forget About Dark Skies
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Comets visible to the average stargazer don’t come along too often, which alone makes it worth looking up this week to see the “green comet” C/2022 E3 (ZTF) glide by planet Earth. However, it will almost certainly not be visible to the naked eye—as once hoped— which makes some of the hype surrounding this comet seem unjustified . The photo above? It’s a layered composite image using long exposures. To the unaided—or even the aided—human eye the comet will look nothing like what you see in images on social media. Should you go on a special trip to the countryside in search of dark rural skies? No, you probably should not both. Waxing towards a full Moon on Saturday, our natural satellite in space is already bleaching the night skies. When the Moon is this bright it’s as bad as artifical light pollution for stargazing and comet-hunting. The night sky even many miles from artificial lights will still be … [Read more...] about The Comet Is Now Close But The Moon Is Bright: Why To Use Binoculars And Forget About Dark Skies

Samsung Electronics reports strong 2022 on a one-off gain
Passersby walk by a Samsung Electronics retail shop in Seoul. [News1] Samsung Electronics reported a better-than-expected net profit last year on a one-off that balanced weakness in most businesses. Net profit rose by 39.5 percent on year to 55.7 trillion won in 2022, far exceeding the market consensus of 36.5 trillion won. Operating profit dropped by 16 percent to 43.4 trillion won, falling short of the market consensus of 46.3 trillion won. Adani said it complied with all local laws and had made the necessary regulatory disclosures. Adani Transmission, Adani Total Gas, Adani Green Energy, Adani Power and Adani Wilmar fell between 5% and 20% on Monday. Flagship Adani Enterprises (ADEL.NS), which is facing a crucial test this week with a follow-on share offering, swung between gains and losses before settling 4.8% higher. It stayed well below the offer price of the issue, which if successful will be largest such share … [Read more...] about Adani firms lose $65 billion in value as US short-seller battle escalates
