Google is taking a pause. Last week, Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai announced that it would slow down hiring for the rest of the year. But a recent email from Prabhakar Raghavan, a senior vice president at Google, revealed that the company will also feeze all hiring for two weeks, as reported by The Information . "We'll use this time to review our headcount needs and align on a new set of prioritized Staffing Requests for the next three months," Raghavan reportedly said in the email. You may not find this surprising. After all, Facebook parent company Meta also recently announced hiring cutbacks, in addition to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's claim that he was "turning up the heat" on Meta employees in the face of a global recession. But Google's announcement hinges on a single, very important word: Pause. With the word "pause," Google demonstrates a more emotionally intelligent approach to Meta's. At the same time, it provides subtle evidence of a … [Read more...] about Google Just Made a Brilliant Announcement That Could Save Millions of Dollars. It’s a Lesson in Emotional Intelligence

BSP urged to stay aggressive on rates
The Philippine peso could again start depreciating against the US dollar if the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) will go slow on increasing its key rates following improved economic data from the United States. Emilio Neri Jr., lead economist at the Bank of the Philippine Islands, said the peso was again the weakest currency among those in the five biggest emerging economies of the Association of Southeast (SE) Asian Nations. Citing data from Bloomberg, Neri said the peso had lost 7.6 percent of its value against the US dollar since the start of this year. The peso started 2022 at 51:$1 and closed spot trading at 55.61:$1 on Aug. 12. Over the past 32 weeks, the Vietnamese dong, Indonesian rupiah, Thai baht and Malaysian ringgit fared better than the local currency. During that period, “the Philippine peso underperformed due to the [BSP’s] dyed-in-the-wool dovish stance [although] an off-cycle hike and a shift in rhetoric has provided reassurance,” Neri said. On July 14 at an … [Read more...] about BSP urged to stay aggressive on rates
What a Cashier’s Check Is and Where to Get One
A cashier’s check is a check drawn against the bank’s account rather than yours. It is written in the bank’s name and typically signed by a teller. The bank is responsible for paying the check to the payee. You pay the bank the funds needed to cover the check from your account. You have to go to a bank or credit union—in person or online—to get a cashier’s check. In several scenarios, it makes sense to use a cashier’s check in place of a personal check because of the benefits and protections it offers that you may not enjoy with personal checks or cash payments. Alternatively, you can use a certified check, money order, wire transfer, or social payment app to make a payment. Each form of payment has its pluses and minuses. Here’s what you need to know about using cashier’s checks, how to get one, and what to use in their place if you need another option. Key Takeaways A cashier’s check is drawn from a bank’s or credit union’s funds and signed by a cashier or teller, which … [Read more...] about What a Cashier’s Check Is and Where to Get One
Charging An Electric Vehicle Away From Home Recently Was A Frustrating, Time-Consuming Endeavor
Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin The first thing you need to know is I’m not blaming electric cars for my recent, blood-boiling efforts to charge one I was test-driving in a strange town. Buzzmobiles have their problems, sure, but billions of dollars are being invested in both the cars and the infrastructure to charge them. They’re not going anywhere. And once you get ‘em full of juice, they’re loads of fun. I’ll tell you what happened. I drove the Polestar 2 in and around Los Angeles and in Pasadena, where I was housesitting/watching a cat, for nine days. I parked every night under the apartment building I was staying in, which is not equipped for charging electrics. No surprise there. I just thought I’d find whatever charging station I could find, hook up and take off for a couple of hours, come back and be on my way. I signed up for ChargePoint, put money into the account and used their map to find me the nearest charger when it was time … [Read more...] about Charging An Electric Vehicle Away From Home Recently Was A Frustrating, Time-Consuming Endeavor
