Putting The 2022 Stock Market Decline In Perspective

March 27, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Jonathan Dash is founder of Dash Investments . As CIO, he is responsible for the firm’s Investment Management and Asset Allocation decisions. Last year's stock market performance was not what anyone would have wanted, but it was to be expected. For those keeping score, it was the largest yearly decline since 2008 . That could be catastrophic for someone who initially invested in January 2022 with just a one-year time horizon. But most investors don't invest for a one-year period. They invest with their sights set on a long-term goal 10, 20 or 30 years out. But even for someone who started investing just three years ago, their average annual return at the end of 2022 would have been 8.22% . For someone who began five years ago, their average annual return would have been 9.11% . A 10-year horizon ending in 2022 would have generated a 12.4% average annual return. You see where I'm going with this. In a … [Read more...] about Putting The 2022 Stock Market Decline In Perspective

The English translation is also the name of a 2021 documentary about the Scotsmen who revived “a stagnant scotch whisky industry.” On International Whiskey Day today (not to be confused with World Whisky Day on May 20 or National Bourbon Day on June 14, which is also Flag Day), you can drink it neat, on the rock or stir things up with these cocktail recipes. Just remember with the “e” is distilled in Ireland and the United States; no “e” is Scottish, Japanese and Canadian. Confused? Just pour yourself one of these: Seven Rays, Lauren Corriveau 1.5 oz Shiitake mushroom-infused Suntory Toki Whisky 0.5 oz Bertoux brandy 1 tsp cane syrup (2:1) 1/2 tsp Rothman & Winter Orchard apricot liqueur 2 dashes Miracle Mile Yuzu Bitters Method: Stir and strain over a block of ice in a single old fashioned glass; … [Read more...] about Stir Things up on International Whisk(e)y Day

February 13, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin If you are single and feeling kind of alone before Valentine’s Day, this may make you go, “Oh, Pew.” Results from a Pew Research Center survey of 6,034 U.S. adults conducted from July 5 t0 17, 2022, show that you are definitely not alone. That survey found 30% of the U.S. adults surveyed to be single, which was defined as not being married, not living with a partner, and not being in a committed romantic relationship. This percentage was higher (47%) among adults under 30 years of age, lower (21%) among the 30- to 49-year-olds, and at 30% for those 50 years and older. Not to single out men, but if you are male, single, and under 50 years of age, you may be in even greater company compared to women, at least in terms of numbers. Among those 18 to 29 years of age, 63% of men versus 34% of women considered themselves single. This dropped to 25% of men and 17% of women for those 30 to 49 years of age. Things flipped after the … [Read more...] about 57% Of Single Adults In U.S. Not Looking To Date, Survey Says

MicroStrategy Sticks With Long-Term Bitcoin Strategy But Uses Short-Term Sale For Tax Benefit

January 5, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin MicroStrategy MSTR , the business-software company that has a thing for bitcoin still loves the cryptocurrency even though it sold some for tax purposes last month, employing a tactic that could help other long-term fans ease the pain from the asset’s months-long slide. As part of a flurry of late-year transactions, MicroStrategy sold about 704 bitcoins at an average price of $16,776 on December 22, the first time the company had divested any holdings of the leading cryptocurrency. But that followed purchases of about 2,395 tokens for about $17,871 each from November 1-December 21. The company said in an SEC filing that it planned to use losses generated by the sale to diminish previous capital gains, which could result in tax benefits. It also said it turned around and bought 810 bitcoins on December 22 at about $16,485 each, meaning MicroStrategy had a net increase of about 2,501 in its bitcoin hoard since the … [Read more...] about MicroStrategy Sticks With Long-Term Bitcoin Strategy But Uses Short-Term Sale For Tax Benefit

Oatmilk Cream Liqueur Challenges The Category

March 27, 2023 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Kevin Burke and Paul Earle set out to create their own alcohol brand, but they knew that for an unknown brand to work, it had to disrupt a category. “My background is beverage innovation, and I worked for Coca-Cola and Beam Suntory, and Paul is a professor at Northwestern, and the two of us asked where can we disrupt a category or what opportunities are out there?” Burke says. “Two things jumped out at us: the rise of dairy-free milks and cream liqueurs, and we realized that no one’s really tried to re-invent that category.” Thus, Dottie May’s Oatmilk Cream Liqueur was born in fall of 2021. Today, they’ve expanded from a handful of bars and liquor stores in the Chicago area to distribution in the entire state of Illinois, as well as Wisconsin and Colorado, as well as shipping through e-commerce to more than 30 different states, with plans for distribution expansion to more states this year. “Illinois, Wisconsin and … [Read more...] about Oatmilk Cream Liqueur Challenges The Category
