Presidents often have good starts

Yeh Young-june The author is an editorial writer of the JoongAng Ilbo. After Korea introduced the direct presidential election system in 1987, all presidents have tried to close their distance from the public during the early period of their presidential terms. President Roh Tae-woo, for the first time, stopped using an honorific term to refer to himself. President Kim Young-sam often had a bowl of handmade noodle soup, a casual dish in Korea, for his lunch at the Blue House. President Kim Dae-jung stopped the usage of “his excellency,” which was considered a relic of authoritarianism. President Roh Moo-hyun stepped out from his car to give autographs to elementary school children. President Lee Myung-bak told his staffers to take out the honorific term used to refer him in the Blue House reports addressed to him. President Park Geun-hye changed a long-held seating arrangement which placed her in the top seat during ministries’ briefing. President Moon Jae-in stood in line at … [Read more...] about Presidents often have good starts

Bitcoin Trailblazer Raises Capital To Create Interplanetary Cryptocurrency

May 4, 2022 by www.forbes.com

LedgerX co-founder Paul Chou is building on the sale of the company he created by raising capital for a new kind of cryptocurrency that can be spent on Earth, the Moon, Mars and beyond. I t’s just before midnight on a rainy autumn Friday. Paul Chou and his entourage dodge puddles on the runway of the Teterboro Airport in New Jersey as they board a Gulfstream private jet bound for Las Vegas. The flight attendant cracks open a bottle of champagne and with a nod welcomes the passengers aboard. The girls disappear into the back and emerge minutes later wearing sequined cocktail dresses and feather boas. Sensing she’s in for a party, the attendant offers a round of tequila shots just as the inertia from the plane taking off to the Bellagio Hotel & Casino forces her laughing into her seat. Ostensibly, Chou, 38, is celebrating not only his birthday but the sale for an undisclosed amount of LedgerX, the ground-breaking bitcoin derivatives firm he co-founded with his wife in … [Read more...] about Bitcoin Trailblazer Raises Capital To Create Interplanetary Cryptocurrency

Hiring Advice In Light Of Potential Recession

May 16, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Although companies are experiencing growth now, the signs are clear that a US recession is coming and likely will be upon us within a year. The Fed is starting to take measures to reduce liquidity and raise interest rates. Typically, recessions cause companies to pivot from their growth agendas into cost-saving agendas – including layoffs of staff. But layoffs would be a mistaken approach to a recession this time around. This blog shares my advice for handling the labor situation in the recession we now face. The Talent Shortage Duration Some people believe a recession would cool off the hot labor markets companies now must navigate because of the talent shortage (especially in IT and engineering skills) and the high attrition rates from the “ Great Resignation ” following the COVID-19 pandemic. Some even believe the current talent shortage is short term and situational; they believe companies just need to get … [Read more...] about Hiring Advice In Light Of Potential Recession
