Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin After a particularly grueling work trip of traveling through ten countries in ten days, Rodney Tipton told his wife that during the few minutes of downtime, he had the chance to listen to the song "Acquiesce" from singer K.D. Lang and that it inspired him to one day have a property and call it Acquiesce. His wife, Susan, asked where this property would be and he replied, "I don't know, but we'll be surrounded by land, watch the sunrise and sunset and we'll be very happy there." Susan and Rodney had paid more than their fair share of dues after several years of working in the corporate world and raising three boys while having to relocate to five different states. They lived in Europe for a time and Susan fell in love with white Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine, although Châteauneuf-du-Pape has always been known for their red wines. And so, she thought their Acquiesce dream of finding a piece of paradise could also include growing … [Read more...] about The Wine Area In California With The Most Old Vines Makes Concentrated Reds But Also Unique White Wines

Fifty years on, London’s Pride veterans remember ’empowering’ first rally
LONDON (Reuters) - Fifty years ago, a group of LGBT+ campaigners marched from London's Trafalgar Square to Hyde Park to protest against discrimination and fight for acceptance in the city's first ever Pride rally. Among them on the march on July 1 1972, organised by activist group the Gay Liberation Front (GLF), was John R. Lloyd, now 69. "Oh, it was exhilarating. It was empowering. We thought we could take over the world and change it to how we feel... It was about system change as well," he said. Roz Kaveney, a 73-year-old trans woman, recalled, "it was about not letting anyone tell you who you are, or what you should do. It was about autonomy. It was about freedom, and it was about joy." Homosexuality was decriminalised in 1967 in England and Wales for those over 21. Campaigners wanted the age of consent brought down to 16, the same as for heterosexual couples, arguing there should be "no age limit on love." The law was ultimately equalised in the 2000s. Speaking at … [Read more...] about Fifty years on, London’s Pride veterans remember ’empowering’ first rally

Pay off your balance every month - this way you have all the benefits of a credit card, without paying a single paisa to the bank in interest. A trap you must avoid is having multiple credit cards - it's much harder to track your expenses when they're spread out over multiple cards. Old Solar Panels Causing An Environmental Crisis In China
Thousands of ageing solar panels sited throughout China could trigger an environmental crisis over the next two decades, according to industry experts. China has more solar power plants than any other country, operating roughly twice as many solar panels as the U.S. with no plans on how to dispose of the old panels that break down. “It will explode with full force in two or three decades and wreck the environment, if the estimate is correct,” Tian Min, general manager of a Chinese recycling company, told The South China Morning Post . “This is a huge amount of waste and they are not easy to recycle.” There could be 20 million metric tons of solar panel waste, or 2,000 times the weight of the Eiffel Tower, by 2050 according to Lu Fang, the secretary general of solar power at the China Renewable Energy Society. Solar panels use hazardous materials, like sulfuric acid and phosphine gas, in the manufacturing process that makes them hard to recycle. Solar panels also have … [Read more...] about Old Solar Panels Causing An Environmental Crisis In China

A photo of the wrecked Spanish galleon San Jose, off the coast of Cartagena. Colombia's army has shared unprecedented images of the legendary San Jose galleon shipwreck, hidden underwater for three centuries and believed to have been carrying riches worth billions of dollars in today's money. Four observation missions using a remotely operated vehicle were sent to the wreck at a depth of almost 950 meters (3,100 feet) off Colombia's Caribbean coast, the army said in a statement late Monday. These missions, carried out by the navy under the supervision of the culture ministry, found the galleon untouched by "human intervention." Cannons partially covered by mud are visible alongside porcelain crockery, pottery, glass bottles and also gold pieces. A part of the bow can be clearly seen covered in algae and shellfish, as well as the remains of the frame of the hull. Close Authorities said they had also discovered two more shipwrecks during their observation … [Read more...] about Lost treasure, gold coins worth billions discovered in centuries-old shipwreck.
