June 9, 2022 by edition.cnn.com

(CNN) "Choose to be optimistic. It feels better," the Dalai Lama has said. Stress can be good for you, and here's why It may also lengthen your life. Higher levels of optimism are associated with a longer lifespan and a greater chance of living past 90, according to a new study of nearly 160,000 women of different races and backgrounds. Healthy lifestyle factors, such as the quality of diet, physical activity, body mass index (BMI), smoking and alcohol consumption, accounted for less than a fourth of the association between longevity and optimism, according to the study published Wednesday in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. "Although optimism itself may be patterned by social structural factors, our findings suggest that the benefits of optimism for longevity may hold across racial and ethnic groups," said lead author Hayami Koga, a postdoctorial student at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in a … [Read more...] about Do optimists live longer? Of course they do

August 8, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin Across the spectrum of care, we now see more empowered health-seeking consumers who want access to better healthcare. And that also includes transparency of costs, access to personal health records for self-improvement, and chronic disease monitoring. As consumer behavior and preferences continue to change, we need the digital healthcare landscape to adapt quickly to provide various regulated and non-regulated tools and platforms. Why? Well, for two reasons. According to iHealthcareAnalyst , Inc. in an October 19, 2021 report, the Global Preventive Healthcare Market will be $287 Billion by 2027. The second reason is more important. The current healthcare model is fracturing. Hospitals are not equipped to deal with a shift to preventive care with outdated infrastructure and care models. Companies like CVS and others are offering clinic care at their stores with nurse practitioners. And the COVID pandemic has people getting … [Read more...] about Entrepreneurs Utilize Technology To Build The Future Of Healthcare With Preventative Products And Services

6 Ways To Create An Eating Disorder Informed Workplace

August 4, 2022 by www.forbes.com

Share to Twitter Share to Linkedin “An eating disorder informed workplace would be careful not to comment on people’s bodies, and not to encourage weight loss through competition or diet talk,” says Rebecca Eyre. Eyre is an eating disorder therapist and the CEO of Project HEAL , a non-profit that helps connect under-resourced people to eating disorder treatment at little to no cost. Research shows that at least 10% of people in the U.S. are affected by eating disorders. However, Eyre shares that this number is likely much higher, potentially closer to the majority of Americans. Work is an unavoidable venue that might be challenging for people with eating disorder histories or who are actively seeking treatment. Here’s what Project HEAL recommends for creating an eating disorder informed workplace: 1. Recognize that eating disorders can affect anyone, no matter their size, race, gender, or sexual orientation.
